Joe’s Stone Crab is as good as the reviews state. My wife who frequented Joe’s when she lived in Florida, said it was a must for us to eat their on our trip to Miami. We got their about 30 minutes after they opened and were seated immediately. Now if you show up around 7:00PM be prepared for a long wait, as in an hour +. We ordered a rose wine from Provence, France priced at about $40, which was fruity and tasty and a perfect complement to our fish dishes. Our first dish was raw oysters – six from the east coast and 12 from the west coast – delicious. My wife and I then shared snapper, a small order of hash browns (wish we had ordered the French fries, the looked much better), which were so so. Instead of dessert we each had a salad, I had the blue cheese wedge – wonderful. My wife had the house salad with Joe’s special balsamic dressing.
The writers who criticized Joe’s I simply don’t understand. Excellent food (except for the hash browns), excellent atmosphere and excellent service. As to tipping, Joe’s does NOT add a tip as many restaurants do in Miami. Gosh is a 15% to 20% tip to much to ask. I believe the people that weren’t pleased with tipping must be foreigners. Heck I don’t complain about the 17% VAT charges when I go to Europe. So, if the service is good, open the pocket book a little wider.
