Description: Referred to as the Khong River by locals, the Mekong River has long served as the central form of connectivity for natives from the Tibetan Plateau down through Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. The river brings together these various cultures, while its banks and valleys create one of the world's most biodiverse and fertile areas. As a young man, 50 Eggs, Inc. Founder/CEO John Kunkel lived in Thailand and traveled extensively through Southeast Asia. This time abroad left Kunkel in awe of the people, culture, and food of the Mekong region, and waiting for the day he could bring the experience stateside.

“Fancy cool expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014 credit card Amex Card Member Review

Fancy, cool, expensive. Sounds like a version of the Spice Girls.

The food is good.
Appetizers are deliscious but real small portions not relative to the price either.
The bar is beautiful, bar tenders friendly and nice.

The building is a beautiful updated red brick building hanging right off Lincoln Road so location is great.

“Service was simply the worst”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

Went there for my bff's bday dinner and we wanted to make a toast...ordered cocktails which came out 35mins later!! Waitress FREAKED out on us for "confusing" her with "the other Asian girl". She said it was not her that took the order but she should have wondered why the other waitress took our order in the first place if she didn't plan on following thru. Seriously, this was beyond awkward as I've never had anyone pull the race card on me before! And managers (there were more than one) did absolutely nothing except give us an apologetic script from hospitality 101 after we explained our awful experience. Entrees came out before apps. It was a disaster. Thank goodness my bff still appreciated the efforts we made to celebrate her bday. I've been there a few times and It's been decent. This time, we literally had the waitress from hospitality hell and clueless managers who were turning their heads hoping for it to just end soon. Zero attempt to fix things. We received a free dessert to sing happy bday which we left untouched. We ran out of there!! This was the first time in my dining life that I could not leave gratuity for someone that waited on me.

“Surprisingly bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2014

I don't know if we were unlucky, but we were not happy this time around at Khongs. The service was not attentive at all, one of the beef dishes felt like biting into rubber and when we complained nothing was done about it. It was also freezing cold inside the restaurant and the music was too loud, which made the eating experience bad... The only things I liked was the mussel appetizer and the drink. I liked the place the last time I was here but not much this time.

“Went for after dinner drinks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

The bar has an immense selection of liquors with a menu of specialty cocktails unique to the varieties of alcohol available. The bartender was excellent and able create new cocktails based on your preference.

“Chefs tasting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014

Tried this restaurant based on reviews. Instead of just picking a single main course we decided to try the chefs tasting. Perhaps a bit over priced considering the ingredients but definitely left full and over all satisfied.

Few high lights. The first dish was shishito peppers witha sweet and sour sauce and was over all the best bit of the evening. Te flavor combo was one of those where you could just keep eating as long as they keep bringing it to the table.

Weakest dish by far was the salmon with green curry sauce and this from a person who lives on salmon lox for breakfast and at least 2-3 times a week for dinner. So its saying a lot.

Te only other complaint, if you could call it that, is the flavor profile became very one tone after the
Shishito peppers the next 3 courses were good, but left you feeling a bit like well this tastes very similar but not as good. Having said that, on their own each of these dishes were worth ordering on their own.

Over all. A great meal. Service was good, buT even sitting in the back. The restaurant got noise. When we left and walked through the front room, it was crazy.
