“good location, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

We stayed here for a short break Easter 2014 to escape the winter. We had a great time. The location is good right in the middle of Miami beach - a short walk from ocean drive and the Lincoln street area. it is also just around the corner from Espanola street with the restaurants. We found the hotel very nice from start to finish. We had a seaview room with an amazing view of the beach and were able to sleep with the window open at night listening to the ocean. The pool area was very welcoming. The staff were all friendly and helpful.

Excellent location, hotel and beach. Double bed too narrow for two but otherwise just great and comfortable. We stayed in Deluxe room with sea view. (I believe all Deluxe rooms have partly sea view and bigger/expensive room have only whole sea view)

really cool hotel with a retro, cool Miami vibe. Convenient location for beach, shopping, restaurants. Front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating. Thehotel has a good restaurant, nice pool, and great outdoor seating areas where you can just kick it and relax, read, visit.. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay there.

Unfortunately had to write this review while completing my stay at this hotel. Stayed from April 17 to 22. We booked the room through a third party site (expedia) with a decent deal.
Cons:
1) The worst part of this stay was housekeeping. After spending the day on the beach and trying to get ready for dinner, we came back to a room that had not been touched by housecleaning. Had to call the front desk repeatedly, and was told that housekeeping was not usually complete until 630PM. I'm sorry but I've stayed at hostels, hotels, and motels across the world, and I've always had my room cleaned by 3 PM max. Simply bad service for the cost paid, on average our room was cleaned somewhere between 5 and 6 pm. The room clean was adequate, although they had issues refilling our water container and replenishing towels.
2) The beach was nice, except the 21 dollar resort fee for the seats, plus a 20 dollar daily rental fee for an umbrella,. Amounts to 41 dollars a day to use the beach, which is a bit unreasonable given the cost of the hotel. We did bring our own umbrella to save a few dollars given we had to pay the resort fee for the seats, and one of the beach staff had thought this was an issue, However, after discussion with management it was allowed. Beach staff is otherwise quite friendly and willing to help.
3) On expedia we actually did book an oceanside room and were placed in a courtyard view room instead.
4) When we arrived on the first day, three staff in the front were standing around. One eventually opened the door for us, no one to greet us from the taxi or help with bags, which for a nice hotel should be standard.
5) Finally, we tried to address this with the general manager via email, and still have yet to receive a response.

Pros
The hotel is a nice property and the rooms are cute. Well designed with a nice style throughout, and a focus on keeping things green. Great location as well

Bottom line for 300+ dollars a night for a standard room (which is on the lower end) it's not the service standard you expect for a high end hotel. Unless you are tipping like crazy, or pay for the upgraded room, you're likely going to receive second rate service. Be prepared to pay for everything outside of your hotel room stay (food, coffee, umbrella rentals, drinks)

Room Tip: Try to avoid during busy seasons, be prepared to tip a lot and often.

We stayed for four nights Monday to Friday in April 14 as a base for seeing Miami Beach and its environs, and to get some sun after a dismal UK winter. If you can't be bothered to read any further...for a mid to high price range hotel in Miami...the JRP is very good. Sure, if you want a huge stylish pool (e.g. the Raleigh), a genuine Art Deco interior (loads to choose from) or an achingly cool lobby (e.g. the Delano), there are better choices but I suspect you would pay handsomely for the privilege...and you can always visit them. Our room on the fifth floor was a bit small by US standards but by European standards it was fine. I'm not sure it was worth the extra cost for an oblique ocean view (it's probably worth checking you are getting a room 'with a full on' ocean view).
Overall, the service (particularly concierge service from Florien & Paul) was first rate and it was great to get a cold drink & iced flannels on arrival. The location is very good too - quiet but within a short walk of the heat & light & noise of Ocean Drive. One minor quibble...there were lots of scuffs and bumps in the room and in the corridors (that really showed up as the predominant colour of the hotel interior is white), it would be good if these could be routinely tidied up. But in summary we don't think you will be disappointed if you stay at the JRP.

We've been to Miami for Spring break just for fun. We had an inconvenience with the current hotel we were in. We then decided to check out. So, we had to get a different hotel. But luckily, a friend helped me find this magnificent hotel.

Best poolside service in South Beach. Magdalena, Raquel and Martin are the best. Hotel has clean rooms and good food. The 2 bedroom apartment is fantastic

Only negative is they charge for umbrellas at the beach
