Overall, this was a very good hotel.
Pros:
- very clean
- lots of attention from the staff
- taxis always available at the front
- big, clean pool
- two jacuzzis
Cons:
- There was a charge for everything. $6 for water in the room. I forgot my razor, and the gift shop had the gall to charge $6.50 for a 3-pack of the cheapest disposables (99 cents at the drug store). A floating mat for the pool was $20 for the day. Internet access was $10 per day, though the free wireless access from the Royal Palm next door seemed to work pretty well.
- My 16 year old son could not use the exercise room without me being there. And, to use the exercise room (prominently featured on the web site) cost an extra $10. For $300/night, it's annoying to be charged another $10 bucks for something that most hotels give you for free (gym access).
- The rooms were quite small (partial ocean view room).
- It was frustrating not to be able to find a lounge chair within sight of the pool. Lots of folks seem to put their towel down, and then just leave.
When we got there, we got a 4th floor room, which barely had a view. I asked for a room on a higher floor, and received it without any hassle.
Water pressure, and hot water, was fine. Nice TV (flat screen) and sound system (accepts an ipod nano) in the room. Only one block from lincoln street, and the hotel really is right on the beach.
All in all, I'll probably try another hotel on the beach if I end up here again. I was here for a fencing tournament in July; I wouldn't choose to come back in the summer. One to two hours of rain every day, plus plenty of humidity.
