“Solid value, fair rooms”

This is a pretty basic hotel but the staff is courteous and helpful, the price is right, and the location is good because it's close to the action, yet quiet. As other reviewers have said, you must be willing to compromise somewhat on the rooms. Ours was spacious enough and had a king-size bed and fridge. However, the mattress was rather thin, yet overly firm. The room needed a paint job. The A/C situation is acceptable, but not ideal, because you can't achieve perfect control over the temperature in your room. Self-serve breakfasts are a cut above the usual chain-hotel fare in this price range. Common areas are lacklustre but the high-speed internet terminal in the lobby is a nice touch.

After reading an article on the Atlantica in Budget Travel magazine and then referring to trip advisor we decided to try the Atlantica. What a great find in South Beach (SOFI..South of Fifth)!! As other reviewers noted, the room is very simple, bed, chair, table and small bathroom but so very clean. Location is excellent, no noise and very safe. Parking was a bit of a problem but just $10.00 and only a few blocks away. Ocean Drive, a nice park and the beautiful ocean only a block away. No partying here which was just fine with us. Breakfast can be enjoyed on the front patio or in case of inclement weather in a small area off the lobby. Staff very friendly and accommodating. We hadn't been to Miami Beach in over 20 years and it has changed for the better. We will be back again and we will be staying at the ATlantica and for three nights not just one. As an aside, within walking distance (a few blocks) is Joe's Stone Crab. We were following the South Beach Diet and this restaurant is featured in the book and we decided hey we have to continue our diet so off we went. It was excellent, but our advice is to get there early as we had read that you can wait as much as three hours to get in. We got there around 5pm and felt rather underdressed (jeans) as we were greeted by tuxedo clad waiters who when we stated we felt underdressed said "no problem". We were treated to at first a lovely bread basket (a no-no on the diet) which had a selection of some of the best breads we have ever had, and yes this was a yes -yes for us on this occasion. We aren't fans of Crab, instead we ordered two different fish dishes which they will prepare however you want and they were absolutely delicious. We highly recommend both this restaurant and the great Hotel Atlantica when in the South Beach area.

I would recommend this hotel to either students or travelers on a budget. If you are planning to spend a considerable amount of time in your room (not likely), I would not recommend it. The room was small, basic, but clean. My one complaint was the air conditioning unit was not powerful enough. But which one is in June at South Beach.

We stayed two nights at the Hotel Atlantica in one of the Deluxe rooms (202? 206?). I would recommend it to people on a budget who are willing to compromise a bit. If you must have a really nice room, you should spend the bucks at another hotel.

What was good:
- free internet terminal in lobby
- free continental breakfast
- very helpful staff
- large room, with a fridge
- location close to everything, but far enough away to avoid the noise

Was wasn't so good:
- Room was on the edge of shabby: old worn carpet, peeling paint, rust in the bathroom
- Parking: if you go, try to reserve one of their (limited) spots - otherwise you have to find a 24 hour garage since the street meters have a 6 hour max use. We ended up at a garage on 7th and Collins for around $14/day; which added a bit to the checkin/checkout hassle.

Thank you for submitting your review.
I am glad that you liked our location and our breakfast.
You are absolutly right about the paint pealing on the ceiling. The reason for that is that we had a water leak through the roof during hurricane Wilma and not only did we repair the ceiling in the room, but we replaced the whole roof as well.
As far as rust in the bathroom, I don't know what you are refering to and the condition of the carpet is a matter of opinion. It is four years old, gets shampooed regularly and has no stains per say.
Thank you again because we value your opinion.

We visit Miami Beach annually. Stayed at a number of hotels over the years costing $100 - $150 per night. This time we went with the Atlantic Hotel due to great TripAdvosor reviews. This hotel, located at the southern most end of Collins Ave, at 3rd Street beats all those we have used before. The reviews are correct, this is an excellent choice. Good size rooms, well laid out, lit and include a safe. Quite area of Collins so no noise problems. Good continental help yourself breakfast (cearal, 3 types of bread inc. bagals, cream cheese, bananas, yogurt etc.)

They have one computer with free broadband connection in reception. Rarely had to wait long to use this.

PARKING Tip: The have an offsite covered parking facility a few blocks away @ $12 and multipile entry. However, there are plenty of parking meters around. $1 per hour between 09.00 & Midnight. However, no one seems to feed them or get tickets! We stayed 8 nights and it cost us nothing.

Congratulations to the Swiss-German owners.
