“Smack dab in the middle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013 via mobile

The Hotel is actually two. Original Art Deco off Ocean Avenue and the new annex which is right on the avenue in the middle of the South Beach scene. We had room 325 in the annex, with a balcony overlooking Ocean Ave. not to worry, noise is completely silenced by thick sliding glass doors. Room nice size, good closet, large bathroom with wonderful rain shower head. Below hotel is the News cafe made famous by Versace. Open 24/7 good for breakfast. Garage parking $15 a day, a convenient must. Would recommend the guided Art Deco tour which leaves from the visitors center across the street. And an after dark stroll to take in the neon and "wildlife!"

This is a gorgeous place. Our room had cool furniture, lots of storage and the bathroom was small but beatiful. We ate brunch on the patio and it was very elegant with great food. The rooftop pool is a great palce to sun or eat lunch. Room was a little noisy because of street noise but not too bad. Great experience - sorry we only could stay one night.

Got this hotel for a great price on Hotwire, and thought I'd be very happy, but not really.

Nothing was bad. But check-in was annoying, as one of the busboys was seemingly adamant at providing unsolicited advice/wanting to arrange tours - and the conversation almost literally went like, "What about a day trip to Key West? (been there yesterday) How about a tour of the city? (it's already booked, happening tomorrow) Let me show you where we are on a map (sorry, no need - already have a GPS map on my phone) ... "

I guess if you were completely unprepared, it's nice to know perhaps that they'd have you taken care of, but I of course would expect any service they would have offered would be priced far above what you could get just by doing your own bookings on Expedia/Viator or whatever. And they really shouldn't offer it without asking -- if only they had said, "Did you need any recommendations on things to do?" then that'd have been fine. ANYWAY - I digress !!

The location was good. The room was nice, large enough with quality furnishings. Expect to tip as they make it very uncomfortable for you to - heaven forbid - bring your own bags up to your room. Again, if you like that - great. I don't.

Definitely the kind of place that you'd like to go to perhaps if you want to "impress" someone - if that kind of thing would impress them.

After we left, I checked my credit card statement and there was a $5 charge there. Didn't touch the mini-bar, nothing was notified to me on check-out, and all room fees/taxes, etc. were prepaid before arrival. Tried to email them but the email bounced back as undeliverable! Not going to bother calling - but again - just watch out in case they try and charge something more!

The Hotel is very well located, in the heart of South Beach, a block away from the beach and Ocean Drive. Staff is helpful and friendly, make us feel like old friends of the place. Room was clean. We would definitely come back for our next stay! Thank you to everyone, especially John for its excellent restaurant suggestions! See you soon!

This is a really well located hotel and has an attractive Art Deco frontage. The rooms are a good size, also Art Deco and quite quirky in their decor. The staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly, we got a warm welcome from everyone. The restaurant food is delicious but so pricey. Worth it for a nice night in but for breakfast, suggest you try Ocean Boulevard where there is plenty of choice and the prices are reasonable. Overall though, a great hotel to stay in

I was overwhelmingly surprised by this hotel. It was such a nice little hotel in a perfect location of south beach with excellent service and with a very large shower in our superior room. It was nice to have a shower with two shower heads in a large space where both of us could shower together. The hotel backs onto News Cafe on south ocean drive and is directly across the street from Pinnochio Cafe, the best Italian cafe in south beach with excellent salads and sandwiches. You know the coffee is good when all of the clientele is Italiano. The service at the hotel was excellent and everyone is very polite and attentive. The roof top pool, although small, is quaint and the views are very nice. Giubue, the Italian waiter, is very friendly and attentive as well. The hotel gym is a good as can be expected. I was very much surprised by our enjoyment of the hotel. The parking garage is one block away ($15/day unlimited in and out). One hint is to never exit the parking garage at rush hour on the weekend when everyone is leaving the beach as it can take one hour to exit. Either wait until later or leave earlier. I never ate at the restaurant in the lobby (Aurello's Italian) as we had reservations each night planned in advance. The overall experience was very nice and easy going. I would recommend THE Hotel of South Beach to anyone looking for good value in a quaint and clean hotel with fantastic service.

This review is for Augello's Restaurant which is the house restaurant but doesn't figure on TripAdvisor on its own. Initial impressions were positive as the garden space is attractive and the menus were on illuminated pages rather like holding a tablet PC. Having ordered just a main course, we ended up waiting 45 minutes before it arrived. Just two minutes before that, we were given some warm bread and olive oil and an apology for the delay, but the virtually immediate arrival of the main course made all that rather irrelevant. My partner's trout dish (USD 26) was parsimonious in the extreme. My tagliatelle alle melanzane (also USD 26) conspicuously lacked the key ingredient although did have a good, creamy parmesan crema as an accompaniment. Wines were fiendishly expensive by the glass and we were charged USD 18 for little more than a small glass of a quite average Tuscan white and an Argentinian malbec. Tiramisu (USD 16) was described by the friendly waiter as 'tiramisu nuovo', which essentially meant that it hadn't been constructed, and consisted of two, rather stale savoyard biscuits, some whipped up mascarpone and egg white and a slurry of bitter coffee underneath the deconstruction. And we had to request the removal of the bread basket and olive oil after the dolce was served. It was also very obvious to us that tables occupied by native Italian speakers were receiving preferential treatment, which amounted to outright schmoozing on one table only a few feet away from us. On the basis of our experience tonight, we really wouldn't recommend it unless your Italian is up to scratch and you've got a deep wallet.
