“The Hotel is convenient and full of unexpected perks!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2012

My husband and I traveled to South Beach for a 3-night stay to celebrate our first anniversary. While we were under the impression that we were staying at The Hotel in order to save some money, we were SO pleasantly surprised by the service and the unexpected perks that we'd stay there again in the blink of an eye!
First of all, when we arrived, the room we were scheduled to stay in was still occupied, but we were shown another option on the first floor, which we took and thus had ourselves unpacked and ready for the beach by noon. The day of our arrival was our actual anniversary and we had a special package shipped to the hotel containing the cake topper from our wedding a year prior. Our sister-in-law shipped it from New Orleans (where we were married), and the concierge accepted the package and delivered it to our room along with a complimentary bottle of wine. Such incredible service!
We were also pleasantly surprised that we were able to get free loungers and towels at the beach. These cost $18 per chair, per day and so to get them free was a huge savings. This was amazing and we had no idea!
It is also really worth mentioning that the staff is wonderfully helpful. David (Da-veed) is so friendly and made a dinner reservation for us that turned out to be our favorite meal of the trip (Ola at the Sanctuary Hotel). He also recommended lunch spots, a place for coffee, and where to go to get a drink. We appreciated all of his advice and loved meeting up with him in the lobby each day to chat about our plans.
The best unexpected perk was the rooftop pool and bar. We knew there was a rooftop pool, but we've seen others at other hotels that have been disappointing. This one is small, but delightful with a great view. The bartenders are great and make the absolute BEST frozen mojitos and rum punches! On our last day, our flight didn't leave until 8:00 pm. We checked out at noon, but headed to the beach for the day while the staff took care of our bags in a locked room accessed only by an elevator key and room key...very safe! The best part was that we were able to shower before our flight in the shower just outside the rooftop pool. It is clean and convenient. Such an amazing perk!!!
We loved every minute of our stay here and would stay again and again. If you want big, fancy rooms with incredible views, then don't stay here. But if you are looking for a GREAT location, friendly staff, and super convenience then this is the hotel for you!

Room Tip: The windows are frosted on the backside of the hotel. This in NO way inhibited our stay, but if you...

We enjoyed the design of the hotel and room and spent time at the pool. We did not eat or drink at the hotel because there are plenty of alternatives in the neibourhood.

Good location for Art Deco and the beach.

I researched various South Beach hotels thoroughly before choosing The Hotel. If I had known we were going to be in South Beach during Spring Break, I might've chosen a hotel in a different part of Miami Beach -- further north or further south. That being said, our stay in The Hotel was really terrific and hardly marred at all by the presence of all the kids. We had requested a quiet room--and got one (Couture)-- we slept well all 3 nights despite the goings on on Ocean and Collins Ave. (We were on the 3rd floor in a corner). Our Couture room was not small--I think the complaints about room size must relate to the Designer Room. While not super super luxury, it was really very nice, very cute. The bathroom was extremely nice-- particularly the huge walk-in shower with terrific rain showerhead (much better than my NYC apartment bathrooms). The room was very clean with a lot of storage. The furniture was fine. The bed, a king, was extremely comfortable. The Couture room windows were clear, unlike, apparently, the Designer room windows. The roof pool area at first didn't seem that impressive; however, once we started using it we loved it. We had breakfast every morning sitting looking out at the ocean. Julio, who was assigned most mornings as the waitstaffperson, was friendly and an interesting conversationalist. We are not loud or rock music fans (understatement) but we did not find the music that was sometimes played obtrusive. Yes, the pool is small, but no big deal if you realize that you are not going to be swimming long laps ahead of time. There are lots of very good restaurants in the neighborhood (we did not eat on Ocean Dr-- looked like one big tourist trap)--Otentic & Grazie (On Washington bet 7-8th); The Dining Room (Washington below 5th); Tap Tap (on 5th). Also, the park at the very south end of South Beach is definitely worth a trip (a 15 -20 minute walk from The Hotel) - it is quite pretty with beautiful water views. You can walk from the park directly onto the beach and then walk up the beach back to The Hotel. We also walked north along Collins all the way to 48th Street and then down the really lovely boardwalk, which is also definitely worth doing, if, for nothing else, to watch the kite surfers (or kite boarders). All in all, a charming, small boutique hotel with lovely, friendly staff. I really did not want to leave-- despite all the kids.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room if it's important to you

The Hotel is located just one block off of Ocean Blvd. so you are in the thick of the action but still have some quiet. The rooms are a bit small but perfectly adequate. The decor is art deco but not over the top. The rooftop pool and bar provided a beautiful view of the ocean but was a quiet peacful spot. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful - providing great tips on dining and shopping. This hotel also had great rates compared to some others in the neighborhood.

OK, the very first thing to understand about South Beach...it's not a place you come to sleep. That being said, we had one of the new rooms, right above News Cafe, facing the beach/ocean...with a balcony. Awesome place to be and be seen. People watching is amazing from this balcony! But when we shut the balcony doors, it shut-out the noise! Probably because they are hurricane rated glass. We had absolutely no trouble sleeping. Keep in mind that Ocean Drive is quite lively well into the night on weekends, but much quieter on weeknights.

The rooftop pool and pool deck is PERFECT...comfy loungers ...great bar and staff ...wonderful sandwiches--big enough to share. (Where you really planning on swimming laps in that pool, while on vacation?) My wife even felt comfy enough to go topless while sunning....gotta love vacations!

The hotel common areas and room were very clean. Our balcony glass doors were a bit dirty on arrival, but we simply asked that they be cleaned and it was done immediately...and with a smile. The staff was always friendly and attentive. For instance, we arrived before our room was ready, but no big deal...they just sent us up to the pool bar with some free drink coupons. What a great way to start our vacation...something we might have done anyway!

The Hotel's location is perfect...very close to great shopping and fabulous restaurants. Don't miss Quinn's (hit it twice) or a Fish Called Avalon. And, its just far enough down the beach that you don't have to look at those big white event tents!

I guess the best advice is... if you like brand new hotels with cookie-cutter rooms...stay someplace else and leave this one for my wife and I. But if you are looking for a true SoBe experience, then book this one...a real art-deco gem that's not showing her age at all.
