Called a week ahead to reserve a table for 12 for my business group attending a conference at the Fountainebleau. They could only reserve that group size if you agree to their $85.00 per person set menu. So to work around that, because there were so many other options on the menu that looked more interesting for my diverse group, I worked with "Valerie" over the phone to reserve 2 tables of six which she promised, after checking with someone, that the tables could be next to each other. Thrilled with the accomodations they made, I was excited to bring my group there as the atmosphere and location, which is walking distance to our hotel, seemed perfect!
Upon our arrival to an almost empty restaurant, I was told by the hostess with a sour face (I guess we weren't celebrity enough) that the tables could not be near each other, as they didn't make note of that request, and that they were expecting a full house that night. I was clearly disappointed as she said she would have to have a discussion with "Valerie" as she couldn't understand why she would promise me such a thing as placing 2 tables next to each other - perish the thought!
I agreed to have 2 separated tables so as not to make a scene, though with a good visual of the entire restaurant (which was empty), I knew it would be a while before I would witness all the tables filling up...
Though disappointed by the first incident, we looked forward to at least tasting the food. Well the service was terrible; the waiter looked surly and had a terrible attitude, and looked more annoyed with us than interested in actually serving us. The bread brought out after a long wait was not enough for our group of 6 seated at our table. The food portion sizes of everything we ordered besides the pizzas were extremely small, and the food itself not impressive; tasteless, in fact.
When we asked to see the dessert menu, the waiter actually sighed... SIGHED!! He whisphered something to the bald-headed gentleman (we're assuming the manager, but as he never greeted our tables, how would we know?!?), who was watching our tables as if they were anxious for us to leave. And so, always ones to please, we decided to grant their wish and take our business back to the restaurants at the Fountainebleau, especially as many in our party were still hungry after such tasteless and poorly portioned meals!!
So funny, because for a restaurant that appeared anxious to turn our table, the service was ridiculously slow - the waiter was hardly around, our water glasses were never refilled, and my husband at the other table actually had to get another random waiter's attention just to track down ours, who we hadn't seen at that point for about 15 minutes!! (Side note: our two tables had separate waiters so it wasn't as if either were stretched having to serve a huge crowd.)
Impossible not to take note as we exited the restaurant that the restaurant remained half empty, including several tables next to each of our group's two tables that were still empty from the moment we arrived to the moment we left - gee, sure would have been nice for our group to have been able to sit together, or at least in proximity to each other!
From the hostess, to the waiters, to the food... there is absolutely no need to patronize this establishment. The best food in the city would not warrant tolerating the dreadful service, and the food was mediocre at best. Long story short... don't bother!!!
