“Great Tasting Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

Today we attending a tasting for an upcoming wedding. We were first greeted by Chef Richard who kindly introduced himself to us, and from there, we knew we were off to a great start. Yasmin, our coordinator, then joined us and had some cocktails ready for us to taste. Then came the ceviche starter, which was excellent. The rest of the dishes were all very delicious, from the chicken, to the eggplant parmesan to the skirt steak. The presentation of the dishes were of the highest level and the food was plentiful. The passion fruit panna cotta was the most delicious we ever tasted, which had fresh berries and slices of shortbread as garnishes. John, our waiter, was attentive and he advised us he will be working the day of the wedding. Chef Richard again came out to offer us his advice and Yasmin was great in guiding us from beginning to the end. She has a warm and engaging personality. She is easy to talk to, answered all our questions and was responsvie to our requests. We feel fortunate to be working with this team and feel confident and excited as we move forward with our plans. Thank you for the way you made us feel and congrats on a great working staff.

We have stayed in hotels all over the world - never have we been charged $7 for "complementary" water. $37 to valet park your car, there is no other option. They then take about 30 minutes to have your car brought to you. $22 per night per room room charge on top of the actual room fee. We paid extra for an ocean view which we could not see because of the trees. Four small lifts so at busy periods you have a long wait in a corridor smelling of urine. Unclean rooms. The list goes on. Don't bother to email the hotel to complain as they won't respond which to me speaks volumes about what kind of establishment it is.

Attentive and polite staff. Beautiful hotel. Fritz did a wonderful job accommodating us. Will definitely come back next time we are in Miami. Recommend the hemingways mojito and the wings at the bar. Wish we could have stayed longer. The only negative was the weather.

The hotel is very clean, the breakfast is excellent. There are a lot of extra charges, $37 to park and $22 fee per night. It's not too big like the hotels around it, has a boardwalk on the beach, the beach is beautiful. The restaurants are about 25min walk. We enjoyed our stay there.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor. The room was big enough for 4 people.

Stayed here for a brief little getaway and OMG wasn't it perfect. Nice location on the beach but far enough away to still be an excellent value. Had an ocean view room and it was great. The pool is fantastic and open 24 hours, however if you have small kids be mindful the adults at night like to have a good time. The pool bar makes the best mojitos and the beach access is nice. The staff is great. Will definitely stay here again. There are plenty of dining options available withinwalking distance which made for a nice evening walking South Beach. Really didn't need a rental car, wouldn't have bothered had it not been for doing some day excursions.

I have stayed in this hotel and had the worst experience. The airconditioning unit leaked and caused some flooding in the room. I was very displeased with some front desk agents particularly Moises and a woman from dominican republic. They both gave me a hard time and were both very substandard and have shown some rudeness in dealing with the guest. Thankfully, i got to meet the other Front Desk agents like Aebril Plaza and 2 of the younger looking ones a gentleman from belgum and a woman from albania... They were all very friendly and receptive to the guests. Aebril Plaza gave an exemplary service in dealing with the issues on the aircondition leakage and flooding. She was a redeeming grace from all our disappointing experience in this hotel.

My girlfriend and I wanted to get away to the beach. After reading several reviews, we decided to stay at the Palms. It was a good decision.

The hotel has a certain charm. As one would expect, being a hotel on a beach, it's been there a while. However, most everything has been modernized. Our room ("ocean view") was very nice and comfortable. The rest of the hotel was well kept and updated where applicable. There were still some older features which lead to the charm of the hotel, like the old-time ceiling fans. Very cool.

The Pros:
The hotel set up was very nice. There is a pool area between the hotel and beach. That area has a TON of trees and landscaping. You can escape the heat by finding many different shaded areas. There is also an area for relaxing that is adjacent to the pool where the hotel put sand. Almost like a private beach, but you see the pool instead of the ocean.

The FOOD WAS PHENOMENAL. not just at the hotel's restaurant Essensia, but the pool side food was incredible also. The staff at the pool and beach were extremely attentive and brought us whatever we wanted in short order. They set up our lounge chairs and umbrella on the beach for us, and then were shortly after raising our flag if we wanted food or drink.

The Cons
Two rooms across from our room were being repaired/remodeled. They started promptly at 9am. There were a couple of nights that we were out late, and wanted to sleep in a bit. That couldn't happen. Just too noisy with drills and banging. I'm sure that this was an exception, but it would be good to ask at checkin if any of the surrounding rooms were being worked on.

The pillows on the bed were worthless. there were four, and my girlfriend had to stack 3 on top of each other just to support her head. I wadded the other one up to support mine. maybe they are supposed to be that "soft", but I've never had ones like that before. Yes, shame on me for not contacting the front desk to remedy the situation. They probably could have brought different ones to our room. Lesson learned? Check the pillows at checkin, and if they are unsatisfactory, CALL!

No balcony on our room. We were on the 5th floor, and our room overlooked the pool. Great view. You could see the ocean in the distance. However, it appears that none of the rooms on the ocean side have balconies. Kinda weird. It would have been nice to sit outside in the evening or early morning and have a drink or coffee. It might be an insurance issue, or that the hotel just didn't have them when it was built. I think the penthouse had a balcony, but that was out of our price range.

One last thing, but this is something that the hotel cannot control. There was a lot of seaweed in the ocean. Not just by our hotel, but along the entire stretch as far as we could see. The hotel workers said that most everywhere along the east coast of Florida had bad seaweed this year. If you have the flexibility, you may want to call ahead and see how the water looks prior to booking.

All-in-all, I'd go back there again. This was our first time to Miami. It was primarily for rest and relaxation, so it served our purpose well.
