A very nice stay in a very nice hotel. Our stay was even better than expected because we were given an upgrade to a Superior Oceanfront room. Thanks to the Reservation team!
On the positive side, the hotel has a good size meaning that it is not too big and has a good balance between the number of guests and the facilities that guests would like to use. This means that there were always enough sun beds at the pool and at the (very clean) beach, enough tables available for breakfast and no queuing in front of the machines in the fitness room. Great. Very nice and clean pool area with many palm trees. Music is played at the pool area, luckily not too loud. Some people might like that, some less (like me). We had a very nice room with a spectacular view on the 8th floor. You can't open the window but the good thing about this is the fact that the windows are pretty sound proof which is great compared to soooo many other US hotels. Very effective air conditioning which is remarkably quiet. Great bed, first class linen and towels and enough space in the bathroom. Separate but tiny toilet. Very good food in the "Essentia" restaurant. Very good breakfast incl. fresh omelets and waffles also for those who have breakfast included in the their booking. So try to find an offer which includes breakfast, it is definitely worth it.
Very friendly personal all over the hotel. A special thanks to Katja at the costumer relations desk who gave us tons of good hints about things to do and restaurants (and who speaks German as a native language).
On the bit negative side, there is not much storage room for clothes, shoes etc. If you are staying at The Palms for more than a week (as we did) this is a bit challenging. There are only very view restaurants nearby but Lincoln Road is in a walkable distance of around 20-25 minutes using the very scenic boardwalk along the beach. A Taxi to Lincoln Road Mall is around 7-10 $. There are public bikes to rent (very easy by credit card) only one block away (you can use them at the boardwalk) and several buses to use too. At the moment, there are several construction sides near the hotel, especially in the north of the hotel. However it looks like most of them are coming to an end, some in the next weeks, some others might take another few months. That creates some (in my mind) bearable noise, especially at the pool area. At the beach, this is close to an non-issue. And one should be aware that most of the Miami (South) Beach area is in the air corridor to Miami Intl. Airport...
Overall "The Palms" is a great place to be which I can really recommend, especially in a few months from now when the construction works are over.
