OK, we had to make a quick choice for this hotel from our hotel room in Ft Lauderdale the night before as we had been let down by our UK agency. We used Lastminute.com and on arrival we were a little disappointed it didn't match our expectations as described on the internet sites - don't be fooled by the photographs. The Da Vinci Suite was well worn, our mirror wardrobe had a large crack from top to bottom and there was a dirty towel hanging on the back of the door of a very cramped bathroom. The kitchenette was poorly stocked with utensils but as we didn't intend using it we didn't complain. There was coffee but no creamers and after a couple of attempts the next morning to get some milk we gave up. The bed was clean and comfortable and a basket of rolled towels sprinkled with pot pourri was a nice touch. This hotel is quite a way from Ocean Drive in a bit of a run down area, lots of buildings being renovated or knocked down. It has a pretty lobby and a modest clean pool which we had to ourselves most of the time. No-one appeared to be using the restaurant except us on one occasion, the meal was not good. The hotel had the feel that it had just been taken over and run by a Cuban family who were just "feeling their feet" and could perhaps get a lot better in time. To sum it up it was clean, quaint and the staff quite friendly but I would rather have paid the extra and stayed further down Collins Avenue in a hotel with more finesse.
