OK, we had to make a quick choice for this hotel from our hotel room in Ft Lauderdale the night before as we had been let down by our UK agency. We used Lastminute.com and on arrival we were a little disappointed it didn't match our expectations as described on the internet sites - don't be fooled by the photographs. The Da Vinci Suite was well worn, our mirror wardrobe had a large crack from top to bottom and there was a dirty towel hanging on the back of the door of a very cramped bathroom. The kitchenette was poorly stocked with utensils but as we didn't intend using it we didn't complain. There was coffee but no creamers and after a couple of attempts the next morning to get some milk we gave up. The bed was clean and comfortable and a basket of rolled towels sprinkled with pot pourri was a nice touch. This hotel is quite a way from Ocean Drive in a bit of a run down area, lots of buildings being renovated or knocked down. It has a pretty lobby and a modest clean pool which we had to ourselves most of the time. No-one appeared to be using the restaurant except us on one occasion, the meal was not good. The hotel had the feel that it had just been taken over and run by a Cuban family who were just "feeling their feet" and could perhaps get a lot better in time. To sum it up it was clean, quaint and the staff quite friendly but I would rather have paid the extra and stayed further down Collins Avenue in a hotel with more finesse.

I stayed in this hotel with my boyfriend earlier this month. We got the hotel through Hotwire as we were looking for something inexpensive with a pool. When we got to the hotel, we were checked in by a friendly guy at reception. Our room was very clean with a nice basket of toiletries on our bed sprinkled with potpourri petals. Parking wasn't too difficult around the hotel and it's only two blocks from the beach. The pool area was a little loud for us so we didn't really use it much but we were very pleased with this hotel overall. I would definitely stay there again -
it was great value for what we paid!

I visited Miami Beach May 5-7 for a Spring Fest concert hosted by Jermaine Dupri. This was my first time in Miami and I was really excited. When we finally got to the hotel we couldnt believe our eyes. We thought we had gotten lost and we knew that what we saw couldnt be the same hotel that they advertised on the internet. The outside looked dirty and old and it seemed like an abandoned office building. To make matters worst when you look directly across the street from the Villa Capri you see an beautiful upscale hotel. That made me depressed. Despite the look on the outside we decided to suck it up and give it a chance. So we checked in with Claudia and she was very nice. She informed us that b.c we were early our Contessta Suite was not available. However she could give us two 1 bedroom suites for the same price, which we accepted b/c we were tired from driving 16 hours. Before we made our final decision she let us look at both suites so we could get an idea for where we would be staying. Trust and believe me neither suite was nothiing amazing. So we chose the two separate "suites",that should be called rooms. Yes in each room there is a mini fridge, a mini stove and a couch or chair. However thats not what I consider a suite. It looked like a regualr hotel room with a mini kitchinette. The bathrooms are really really small. You cant even move around in them without bumping into the wall. Luckliy we are young and just wanted to have fun and didnt plan on spending much time in the room anyways. The elevators are slow and small as well. On Sunday night the lights went off on 3 of the floors and I saw people evacuating the building. My lights didnt go off though I was on the 4th floor and I was on my way out anyways so it didnt really bother me. The only thing I liked about the hotel was the valet parking which was $15 a day. I mean its not different than any other valet parking besides the guy was really nice and no matter what time of night you come in or leave there is always someone available to park your car. Bottom line if you are looking to go on a romantic vacation and relax and really enjoy yourself. The Villa Capri is not for you. But if you are a college student just looking to have fun and party and you are on a minimum budget, you found your place. We paid $587 for two days and I really believe it wasnt worth it. I wish we would have paid the extra $50-100 and stayed at an hotel that was closer to the main strip and all the action. The best hotels are anywhere from 3rd to 20th street. When you get down to the 30's You are basically out of the mix. And if you can afford it dont even stay in a hotel on Collins stay somewhere on Ocean St directly across from the ocean. The view is worth it.

“OK but not great”

We stayed in a one-bedroom suite at the Villa Capri in 03/06.
As it is in Miami Beach, space is at a premium. The "full kitchen" is actually a VERY SMALL kitchenette with a mini-fridge, mini-microwave, 2-burner stove and no oven. There were no pots, pans or cooking utensils but we called and housekeeping promptly brought up what we requested.
The bathroom is VERY SMALL. The hairdryer did not work but again we called the front desk and within minutes another hairdryer was provided.
The furnishing was so so and was beginning to show wear and tear. There were some stains on the wall (housekeeping could have done a better job in cleaning the unit).
The front desk staff was responsive but appeared neither friendly nor aloof. The bartender was very nice (to get ice, you need to ask him).
The hotel is not in the ritziest part of town but we really did not feel unsafe. Use common sense.
There is valet parking for $15.00 a day with in and out privileges.
The beach is across the street. The hotel is about 20-minute walk to the Convention Center 30-minute walk to Lincoln Road Mall.
Overall an OK place. It's about on par with other 3-star places.

“What happened to hotel pride?”

We were taken in by the appearance of the front lobby. It has an above average look but after you get into the rooms and notice the small details it is all down hill. The price for this hotel and the poor service don't match. Additionally, the rooms are not well taken care of. Our first night we had air conditioning but after that it was off (and with little response to our complaints.) We finally got a fan! The staff were not friendly and don't appear to like working with each other which sets the tone. We would make simple requests that would not be attended to, and this was daily. How hard is it to replace coffee packets and get clean cups? Don't expect to be in a hurry they only have one elevator that worked the whole time and it wasn't until the 3rd day that someone finally put a note on it to let people know. This has to be one of the worst places I have stayed.
