“Ahhhh, Miami!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

I am an avid "tripadvisor-er" but I have to admit that I did not plan this trip to South Beach so I didn't even read the reviews of this hotel until after we stayed. I will say that most of the reviews are spot on!

Good: Charlie, the concierge, was one of the most helpful and friendly people I have ever encountered in her role! Do ask her anything and she will be able to help!

Bad: the valet. It is far from the hotel. They ride bicycles to get your car so they say allow 30 minutes to get the car for you. Once it took an hour and a half. They did refund us the valet fee for that day.

Good: the restaurant! Breakfast is always packed! The food is fresh. The room service menu is the same as the dine in menu.

Not as good as hoped: cleanliness. The lobby is beautiful! The rooms are cute, but there are some definite maintenance issues of paint peeling, holes in sheets, and the occasional forgotten vacuum or wipe down of an area in the room. We stayed in a suite with a kitchen. It had silverware, plates, and even a stove! But the sponge had been sitting under the cabinet wet for what seemed to be weeks as mildew had collected on it. Again, not serious, but also an unwelcomex oversight. I did however, let my daughter run around without shoes with no hesitation.

Didn't bother me: location. 30th is definitely away from the night life by 20 blocks. The Palms across the street had a great spa, pool and beach. The spa is definitely not free and they might charge you to use the facilities for the day, but just try to walk on! There is a great pay-to-park lot by the W Hotel around 22nd. Great spot for public beach access and closer to things.

My over all assessment is I would stay here for business or for a quick jaunt. I would stay at a larger hotel if I planned on spending more time at the hotel than we did. It was great for our trip!

We did not stay here long, really just a stop over. After getting through the Miami airport including pass port control, customs and getting our rental car, we were exhausted. With only one wrong turn, even with the GPS (road construction), we arrived at the very attractive front steps of the hotel. We had a late check in around 9PM. I think that they were waiting for us. The valet and the bell men were great and we didn't have to think of anything except sitting down and having a drink and eating dinner. After the front desk took a look at us and heard a little of our story they bought us a drink.

The red and white theme of the hotel is not over done. Mostly bright white with many red accents. Red lights in the halls, red chairs at one whitre table in the resturant, pool lounges with red canvas covers and white towels, in other words just enough red to make it unique and interesting. At 9:45 pm we sat down at a table by the pool for our dinner. The food was a surprise, I had a great hamberger and my husband had very well prepared Coquilles St.-Jacques. A very nice end to a rough day.

Our room was on the corner overlooking the street and was surprisingly quite. We wish that we had had more time to enjoy our 2 big picture windows. The hotel was basically full as we found out when we went down for breakfast. I think that there was a French tour group, making resturant full. The only table available was the one with the red chairs.. we took that one. We told the front desk about 30 minutes before we wanted our can and it was there promptly. The hotel is a bit north of the heart of SOBE, but that was fine with us. All in all we liked this little hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room with a king bed, they seem to be bigger and brighter.

While in "South Beach" area, it's really in the north beach part of Collins Drive. Nothing is walking distance. Valet is slow due to the parking lot being 14 blocks away. Service overall was good. Very good free wifi. Close to the beach. We could not get hot water in our room. Front desk set up maintenance, they ran the water for an hour and it got warmish. It was a good value, clean room. Most would find this place satisfactory. Price was right.

Stayed here for a long weekend last summer with my wife. The location of the hotel was terrific, a 5-minute walk from the beach, and a 10-minute cab ride from South Beach. The staff was awesome and very accomodating. Being an older hotel, the rooms weren't very big, but that didn't matter a ton. If you're in Miami, you shouldn't be spending much time in the room anyway. The property was clean and the Red theme was very cool in the decor and design. The food at the bar was good, especially the Pizza. The bartender was very knowledgable and made excellent recommendations about the nightlife in Miami.

The hotel starts off with a bit of an elegant surprise... the stark contrast of white and red. The hotel grounds are very clean. Parking is a bit steep, but all properties in the area have the same parking arrangement. The valet ramp is 13 blocks away so expect some time to get the vehicle. Both times we retrieved the vehicle we waited in excess of 30 minutes. The rooms are clean (the single queen room is quite small) and the hallways appear dirty and seedy, but they are not. The red lighting in the hallways gives the impression that the hotel is hiding something, but you come to appreciate the attempts at creating atmosphere. There are several hidden charges such as the amenities fee and parking which aren't included in the rate. The hotel is located several miles from the heart of SOBE.

Room Tip: Ask for the room by the elevator. It's large, super easy to get into and if you party you won...
