“HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Not worth staying here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
My family & I stayed 3 days 2 nights for a little labor day weekend vacation

* The moment we arrived as we were all checking into our rooms waiting in the lobby etc. we were getting bitten alive by MOSQUITOS!

* As we're checking in we got hit with SO MANY EXTRA FEES! NOTHING IS INCLUDED we basically would of paid the same at Fountain Bleu which is a 5 star & everything included

* We get to the rooms & its 80 DEGREES! the air conditioner was apparently broken & was getting worked on to get fixed later that afternoon! & rooms smelled like MILDEW!

*Later that night we decide to go back hoping there was air conditioner & there was BUT OUR ROOMS WERE ALL INFESTED WITH MOSQUITOS! We had to go buy bug spray to spray on ourselves & plug into the walls etc.

*The bathroom is so small the sink is right next to the bed!

Dear guest,

I want to personally thank you for your review of our hotel, the management team of Claridge hotel always wants to hear back from our guests so we know what needs to be addressed so we could make our guests' stay more pleasurable. I do, however, regret that you disliked our hotel and that your stay was not enjoyable. We always make sure to disclose the total cost for bookings in our hotel on our own website as well as our hotel page on Expedia, Booking and all the other websites which sell room nights for our hotel that there is a resort fee of $9.95 plus tax which covers beach chairs, beach towels, a daily newspaper, local calls, wifi and access to the Jacuzzi and is mandatory for all of our guests. We also made sure to mention that breakfast is not included in the room rate unless booked as a package together with the room. All of this information is also mentioned in the confirmation email sent to our guests. I am sorry that you felt blindsided by what you considered to be 'hidden fees' but our hotel is quite open about charges which are not covered by the room rate.

The mosquitoes - unfortunately there isn't much we can do about them as the door to the lobby opens a whole lot during the day (and night) and we are situated immediately next to a body of water, which is the mosquitoes' favorite medium. We have used all kind of means to expel them from our lobby but are unable to completely do so as every now and again they manage to sneak back in through the open door.

Thank you again for the time you took to leave this review for us and I do hope that you will try to give us another chance at some point in the future.

Good boutique hotel with some very individual features, the jacuzzi in the lobby is pretty cool! A few things marred our enjoyment of our stay largely that Miami beach is currently a building site and The Claridge is surrounded by cranes and building works, not exactly relaxing being woken up at 6.30am to the sounds of drilling! However this is not the fault of the hotel, but it may have been nice to have been either given a room away from the building works or offered some kind of reduced rate, i would say that the room rate of $174 per night (incl tax) was grossly over priced for what you receive in comparison to other hotels i have stayed in, however this seems to be the case with the whole of Miami not just this individual place. If you are planning on staying here be aware that the location is not on the beach front it's over the other side of Collins Ave so can be a little noisy from the street, also it's on the corner of 35th and the main bars/restaurants start at around 17th street so it's a long walk, however you can get a bus for $2 each at the back of the hotel or a taxi costs around $9. We only ate breakfast once at the hotel again overpriced for what you got at $12.95 for buffet which was cold and untasty with a limited selection, the free breakfast we received in the comfort inn was way better! Overall we won't be returning to the Claridge or Miami for that matter, it spoils your enjoyment to constantly be overcharged for average things!

Room Tip: If you want a beach view you're going to have to pay for the penthouse, which is overpriced and...

Dear guest,

It is very important for us to know the opinion of our guests and we make improvements in the way we operate our hotel based on these opinions so thanks so much for your review, it is greatly appreciated! Our property is considered to be mid-priced and I am sorry if you found us to be overpriced. I have to agree with you that Miami prices are a bit high but ultimately it is all about the beach, the sun and enjoying your vacation - and I do hope that you enjoyed your time in Miami, prices notwithstanding. Thanks again and it has been a pleasure to have you as our guest!

location is great for the boat show, 7.00 cab ride, the room was excellent, would give that 4 stars. The only reason I rate it lower is the restaurant in the hotel has TERRIBLE food, could not get a good strong cup of coffee much less a good breakfast that did not resemble some kind of chemical fast food. You really can't give it 4 or 5 stars when you compare it to some very elite hotels in Miami with amenities to work out or eat. There a strong smell from the Jacuzzi in all the hallways, but it did not bother me in my room. The staff was wonderful and helpful.

Dear BoatGal2,

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our hotel! While it is true that our restaurant has had its shortcomings for a period of time, I want to assure you that that has changed and it is now offering a wonderful and new menu. We would love to have you as our guest again so you could experience first-hand the changes that our hotel and restaurant have undergone under new management!

My girlfriends and I took a trip down to Miami and were looking how to have the best time with spending the least amount of money -- and how lucky we were to have found The Claridge. Such an adorable boutique hotel, has a very European feel with it's jacuzzi and sitting area in the middle of the hotel. The service was great! Couldn't have asked for better help in checking-in, finding our way around Miami, restaurant suggestions, getting us cabs, etc! Jose at the front desk went above and beyond in customer service!

The hotel/rooms were clean and well kept. Perfect size -- and we squeezed 4 girls who over packed, into one room with double beds.

Although the location is a bit off the main area of South Beach, it was a fine area. Directly across from a perfect little spot on the beach that wasn't too crowded and a quick/cheap cab ride down to the main area of the beach.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and we plan to visit again! I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great deal in Miami Beach!

The staff were very friendly and helpful at the Claridge hotel, always ready to answer our questions and attend to our needs. The air conditioning in our room was leaking, I reported it and the problem was rectified immediately. The front desk staff were amazing, Michael in particular made our stay even more enjoyable. As two young females we were keen to see the night life and he hooked us up with amazing deals where we were picked up by limos and walked straight into clubs. He was very kind and checked in with us when we returned after a night out, he sure does know the good spots in Miami!! This hotel is a small boutique and has a very homey feel about it, the rooms are nice and very spacious. In addition, we we provided with beach towels and lounge chairs to take with us across the road to the beach. Overall, our stay at the claridge hotel was very enjoyable and would definitely recommend to others. If you want to be away from the craziness of south beach then this is the place to be, it's far enough for a peaceful holiday but close enough to still enjoy all that south beach has to offer.

A very nice and charming hotel. Very well maintained, big bedrooms, kind staff. An excellent relation according to price. Furniture, interiors, floors, balcony , and wood works are very nice and in perfect conditions. One block away to beach, five blocks to Lincoln ave and ten to ocean drive

Room Tip: I was very pleased with a room on the side y ground level. Very silent

Stayed here for 3 nights to visit a nearby conference. The hotel is well maintained and has got a nice hallway with a "pool". I wasn't sure if it was for swimming or just decorative. The room was comfortable and clean, though on the small side. With 2 people staying in the room it could get either crowded or cozy, depending on the company.
I was supposed to have a beach view but got a parking lot view instead. I think there's few rooms actually having a view of the sea though.
Location wise it's quiet and there's not much around in terms of restaurants, bars or shops. This means you have to be willing to walk quite a bit or take taxis.

As I had to be in the area for work this hotel was perfect for me. If you're in Miami for a good time, look for a place closer to South Beach (but expect to pay a lot more or the accomodation to be crappier).

Dear GIAmsterdam,

I want to start by thanking you for taking the time to write this review for our beautiful hotel, it means a lot to all of us to see that our guests enjoyed our stay with us. As for the pool - it is actually an oversized Jacuzzi, heated and with jet streams and it is could be used by our guests between 9am and 9pm. Thank you again and we hope that you will visit us again soon!
