“Nice hotel. The continental breakfast...not so much”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2011

We stayed at this hotel the night before our cruise.

The hotel is nice and close to the public beach.

You cannot see the beach from the hotel. You need to cross a street, then a parking lot, then go over the boardwalk. It`s a one-minute walk. This part of the beach is not overly crowded so is very nice. There was a topless sunbather while we were there. Didn`t bother me but not sure if this is accepted on a Miami public beach. Maybe she was European.

As some else said, there is road work being done in the area so driving might be a challenge.

The hotel is nice and the rooms clean. The small swimming pool in the atrium is a problem though. It is clean and cute but bad acoustics. At pool level, you can't really hear yourself talk so people tend to speak a little louder. Unfortunately, a whisper at pool side is amplified at the room level. We were on the 2nd floor and could hear people talk. I had to tell my own kids to keep quiet several times. Bring earplugs. I always do and slept comfortably.

The breakfast continental buffet was dissapointing. We were 4 guest and were expecting the buffet to be included for all 4 of us. We were told it was only included for 2 of us. We went in anyways and were dissapointed with the food choice for the cost of the buffet. Go somewhere else if you need to pay.

For dinner, there are not too many restaurants nearby. We walked South on Collins for about 15 minutes and there was nothing. We went back to the hotel restaurant to see what was available but it was empty at 5:45 pm. We were not sure if it was closed or being avoided (read other reviews about the restaurant at the Claridge and you`ll see why). We walked North on Collins and found the Carrabba`s Italian Grill about 5 minutes away. Very nce restaurant. Good food for the price. I would recommend it.

Overall, I'd say it was a fine hotel for a short stay if you want to be close to the beach. But bring earplugs and consider eating somewhere else.

I never write reviews on these sites, but I had to after staying at this hotel. The hotel has been poorly contructed where because of the internal courtyard, you can hear a pin drop echoing throughout. Not only that, they have a sleezy hot tub in the middle of the courtyard so you can hear people talking/laughing throughout the whole day. AND, the hotel starts playing cheezy elevator music in the entire hotel starting at 9 am! So when you are in your room, you can hear people walking, talking and the music. Also, if you get one of the top floor rooms, there is a rooftop terrace above it, and if it's windy outside, you will hear chairs/tables moving around. I asked the manager to move us to another room and he said in each room you will hear something because the walls/floors of the hotel are thin?! oh great! I live in NYC, where I am used to a lot of noise, but this hotel was noisier than my apartment in the city. Would not stay in this hotel again.

This hotel is a gem! Our room was gorgeous, very, very nicely decorated, and the staff was particularly friendly and helpful. The atrium is a beautiful space to relax and read. The restaurant is excellent (although a little pricey).

Unfortunately there is construction around the hotel at the moment; leaving a bit of a bad first impression. There's no valet, and parking is a challenge, especially when you first arrive. But, once inside, the hotel is bautiful, well-staffed, and extremely accomodating. The room was nice, albeit small, but clean. We had no hot water...but we were only staying one night so it was tolerable. The restaurant downstairs left a lot to be desired (tiny food, high prices), and we were promised a "free breakfast," which really meant $6 off any ($15-$20) breakfast. Also, the hallways were very noisy beginning around 7 a.m. when the cleaning crew began coming through. BUT the staff was absolutely wonderful. We were greeted warmly and promptly attended to at every turn (THANK YOU CARLOS!!) and the jacuzzi was FANTASTIC. If it had been $125 less a night, it would have been completely perfect.

Great reception staff, clean rooms and convenient location. The onsite restaurant had great food at reasonable prices for South Beach.

We stayed for two nights before boarding our cruise ship. The first night we had to complain about noisy neigbours next door who started with rap music and loud chatting at 2am. Front desk put a stop to it. The next night the fire alarm sounded at 2am. This went on for 20 minutes (false alarm) although we had to ring front desk to find out if genuine. The plumbing was very noisy and was a nuisance. Had trouble figuring out how to turn on the shower. I know it is a historic hotel but I expected modern plumbing.
We only ate breakfast in the dining room on our last morning and the service was sloooow. There were only 6 of us there but persons who sat down after us were served first. I asked for eggs benedict but they didn't have any muffins! So I asked for a poached egg but was told that they would have to ask if this was possible!!!! Not the kind of service one expects in this type of hotel. Plenty of breakfast places within walking distance. Front desk girls were lovely and really helpful.
Loved Miami but would choose another hotel next time, one with an outdoor pool too, although the beach is beautiful.
