“Bad value even at the discount price.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012 via mobile

The only thing remarkable about this hotel is that it somehow continues to stay in business. Even at $129 per night, it is a bad deal. Smells, rude staff, no hot tub in pool area, no heat in rooms along with many other problems. It would be interesting to know if they have any repeat business.

I found ants in the bathroom and on the bed too. I shot a video of them and will be posting it soon. Upon contacting the hotel staff they were not cooperative at all. When I insisted on speaking to manager multiple times , the manager some women named Julia said that it is Mother Nature and she cannot control it.

Spent one night upon return from a cruise in this hotel and found it to be no more than a place to sleep. The hotel charges extra for everything, but provides no sense of the client being of any value. The front desk staff incorrectly charged us and I had to battle through several phone calls to get things corrected. Customer service personnel simply deferred to the front desk and no satisfaction was given. Instead I was told that these are the standards for hotels in the area. I had spent 2 much happier nights at a smaller hotel before the cruise so I know this to be incorrect. (Too bad they were fully booked for this last night.) My suggestion....Pay less and enjoy another smaller hotel or pay lots more and go with a place that really treats you right.

Room Tip: Spend less money and go to a cheaper hotel or spend lots more money and go someplace with a better r...

Having never been to Miami before, we were looking for a moderately priced resort on the beach. Riu was just that. Not too far from restaurants and shopping if willing to pay $10 for taxi. Had a nice fitness facility and pool area. Bartenders at the pool bar were great, but some bartenders at the lobby bar were very unpleasant. Additional complaints are as follows: Check-in and Check-out were inefficient and impersonal. They didn't even thank me for my stay. Hallways were heavily scented, obviously trying to coat the musty smell. There was a $2 fee/day to use the in-room safe. Sheets had stains on them. And finally, the buffet was over-priced.

After a lot of searching this was the most competitive priced hotel in south beach on the beach with decent reviews i could find.
Hotel is out of the madness of full south beach, 20 min walk or ten dollar taxi ride.
Hotel is right on the beach , walk past the small pool (tired)via i gate onto the walkway onto the beach.
There is no on site parking , its valet parking @ 20 dollars a day.
The hotel is dated, its very clean , so are the rooms , but its tired.
The rooms and hallway have had new carpets and paint , wallpaper etc with flat screen tvs, but they are surface renovations, where it shows is the bathrooms , straight out of the 80s , but very clean.
The bar again in the lobby is dated , and pretty poor really , but a massive lobby with seating.
I didnt eat any meals at the hotel so cant comment on this.
The check in staff and all the staff i met were helpful and polite, especially jonathan on the check desk.
The hotel is OK for a few days stay , you get what you pay for i paid approx 130 dollars for a room per night, family friends paid 500 dollars per night for a room in the heart of south beach .
You get what you pay for.
Remember south beach is still booming away 2,3,4 in the morning.
OK if you want to sample south beach madness on a budget, but if you fancy a romantic get away or impressing someone, this will not tick the box !

After thinking we'd found a good deal in South Beach, our first warning sign that this place might be a hassle was the staff's insistence upon arrival that each guest provide documentation of their name, DOB, and signature, backed by a government photo ID. After checking in, we went through the musty hallway upstairs to our room.

The lightweight doors and thin walls/ceiling didn't make the place feel very secure; to add insult to injury, the hotel charges a fee to use the in-room safe. In the room, the carpet felt crispy and the finishes in the bathroom seemed more appropriate for a Tennesee Rodeway Inn than a $200+ beachfront hotel. Dim fluorescent light, dried grout on the vanity counter, stains in the bathtub, etc.

Finally, when we collected our rental car from the hotel-provided valet service, we noticed a fairly large new dent in one of the doors. In order to get the valet attendant to document the damage and fill out the necessary paperwork, we had to call the police.

Pick another hotel.

We enjoyed our stay Nov. 30 to Dec.2.. The staff was friendly, the room clean, we ordered lunch at the pool. Chicken wings and onion rings.. They were delicious. Delivered to our pool side chairs.. A typical Riu buffet. We opted to eat Cuban 2 blocks away which was very good diner. Shopped at the Mexican grocery store 2 blocks down which was reasonably priced especially for a resort area. Good value for the room rates

Room Tip: our room really did not have a view, but we were not in it enough for that to matter
