“We Will Return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2014

The Savoy was the perfect fit for us. A beautiful combination of 2 art deco era hotels, The Savoy Plaza and the Hotel Arlington (see old photos in lobby). Our room and all the public areas were first class. While not technically a private beach, it sure felt like a private beach with food and drink service provided by the Savoy. As others have mentioned, the location is prefect. While conveniently only one block from the high energy of Ocean Drive, the Savoy is a very private and quiet retreat. The staff of the Savoy was extremely friendly and helpful, without exception. In particular, I would like to mention Franklin and Fabian, both of whom greatly added to the pleasure of our stay.

We stayed 3 nights at the Savoy (over a very busy Spring Break weekend). Its a fabulous hotel, with wonderful staff (Martin at the front desk, in particular) -- and great location and best of all its a lovely Art Deco hotel, with beach access and two wonderful pools and pool area. We had Room 301, which is a one-bedroom over looking the pool AND the ocean (its booked as a pool side room). The sunrises were spectacular. For this winter weary Canadian - this was such a great place to stay. And its close to all of South Beach - close to the action, but oh so far away from it all! Very peaceful and quiet - I had no idea if the hotel was full or not, it was that wonderful. Loved being able to sit on the beach with loungers and an umbrella, just watching the world go by! Have to say, by contrast, out in the wilds of South Beach, it sure was hard to find a decent restaurant with more than half decent tourist food at astronomical prices. But the bars (especially the pricey ones) can be amazing! And the weather ... what more do you want!

We stayed at the Savoy March 6th to 8th, prior to our cruise on the Norwegian Getaway. We are a family of four, 2 adults and 2 teenagers. We booked our room and agreed to pay over $425.00 per night, our room was nice but nothing fancy and we overlooked Ocean Drive not the Ocean at this price. I had read other reviews and so I was aware that I would be charged an additional resort fee upon arrival. We checked in late in the day and after reading another guest of the Savoy's review they commented that the resort waived the first days resort fee due to their late arrival, which hadn't allowed for them to use the amenities. I asked the front desk if this was possible when we checked in. To which they replied no. I choose not to discuss it further, but was extremely disappointed the next day when they charged us an additional 20.00 for our teenage children to sit on chairs at the beach, commenting that our resort fee only covered the use of 2 chairs. If there had been a shortage of chairs I would have understood, but there were stacks of them. I would consider staying at the Savoy again because of the location and direct access to the beach. However for the price paid the resort fee plus additional charge for beach loungers left a bad taste in my mouth. They didn't even replace the shampoo and conditioner in our room after the first night. It was very obvious that we were using it and there were four adults in the room.

Room Tip: Rooms fronting onto Ocean Drive can be noisy with traffic late at night.

Dear Deb D,

Thank you for being our guest earlier this month! We are happy that you enjoyed the location & amenities of the property.

In regards to the resort fee, it is quite typical in this area, with the majority of hotels charging. In our property, the resort fee includes the following: 2 chairs & an umbrella at the beach, pool service, WiFi, free newspaper, access to the fitness center, in-room coffee and free local phone calls. It has a value of over $50.

We are sorry that our desk agent did not waive the resort fee for you, but normally it is charged since other components of it may be used.

We look forward to having you as our guest again in the future!

Planned a quick getaway to Miami Beach and used Tripadviosr to help make the decision about where to stay. We did our home work and I'm happy to say that the Savoy lived up to expectations. This is a really nice property in a fantastic location with an awesome beach and pools. It was just far enough away from the madness and close enough to enjoy the frenetic energy of the South Beach scene just a few steps away. Based on reviews on Tripadvisor, we requested the 3rd floor and were able to land suite 325...oceanfront with a kitchen and living room. Not gonna do any better for this price anywhere in SoBe. We were in walking distance of a food market, Walgreen's and any other store that you can think of. We walked to 2 of the finer restaurants in SoBe...Avalon and Prime One Twelve. We were a 15 minute drive from the Miami Heat game and a half hour from Key Biscayne.

Okay, so it wasn't the fanciest hotel...I travel a lot for business and have stayed in some 5 star hotels, but this hotel and staff had character. I would go back to the Savoy in a heartbeat. Check your attitude at the door and relax and enjoy. This is the place to do it.

Just returned from another fantastic stay at the Savoy. if your looking for great rooms, beautiful pool setting with access to the beach and first class service, you've found it.
From the general manager across the board, the staff are first rate and go out of their way to make your stay a memorable one. If your a pool lover, nobody beats the service and pampering from Rocky. This gentleman could teach courses on customer service, he's everywhere and a class act. Also the pool-side birthday cake for my wife was a nice touch!
I travel frequently and rarely to you see a general manager at this hotel level interact with customers the way Gary does or pitch it to help the staff as I witnessed several times.
Room Tip - Get a balcony room if you can, great views
Food tip - Fish tacos poolside - outstanding.
See you next spring! Peter, Linda & Megan

We stayed here for 3 nights in mid march for our honeymoon. They upgraded us to the best room in the hotel (we think) which was huuuuge with a large balcony right near the pool and looking onto the beach. (Room105). Bed was comfy and everything was clean.

The hotel is really nice and the location is perfect, right on the beach and so close to the action. Literally 2 mins walk to all the restaurants, one day we walked up to Lincoln road mall which only took 15 mins or so and was a nice walk along south beach. The beach is nice and there are towels and chairs and umbrellas available from the hotel. Also free wifi throughout is a great bonus.

The staff were all very friendly through out and went out of their way to help us (it was spring break so not many taxis available at that moment but the staff ran around the streets as well as called taxi companies trying to get one for us)
Rocky at the pool, Jean carrying our bags for us, the young Chilean girl at breakfast (didnt catch her name!) and all the reception staff were great.

We only ate breakfast at the hotel once which was delicious and not too expensive, dinner and lunch we are out simply because we were out exploring the town.

Cannot recommend this hotel enough, when we come back to South Beach, we will definitely stay here again.

This is a cute hotel with a great location right on the beach and fun tropical pools! The location and pools were my top priority, so I was happy. The room was better than ok, but not equal to the rest of the hotel. I'd HIGHLY recommend getting a room with a balcony. I was promised one when I booked through expedia but upon arrival was told that one wasn't available. I know that guests who book directly through the hotel's site get priority over those booking through a travel site, but couldn't pass up the deal expedia gave me. Tradeoffs. The housekeeping staff was very friendly but with the tile floors, there was always thin layer of grit - but that's the price of being at the beach. The pool service and beach service was also friendly and attentive. The front desk staff was a little chilly. The location of the hotel is fantastic! It's at one end of the main drag which makes it quieter but still completely accessible to all the action. And best of all, right on the beach instead of a lot of hotels that are across the street. The views of the water and access to the sand are what make this hotel worth it! ...and it's proximity to Dolce Vita Gelato!! No one will blame you when you start substituting their gelato for proper meals! (try the coffee!)

Dear udque,

Thank you for your comments! We are glad you enjoyed the hotel's beachfront location and the 2 acre tropical pool area. It's pretty incredible!

On the other hand, we are sorry we were not able to offer you the balcony you requested. We have a limited number of balconies, so we put them on request, but not guaranteed. Incidentally, ALL of our Ocean View Suites have balconies, so perhaps you may want to reserve that room type for your next visit.

Take care and we hope to have you as our guest once again!
