“FABULOUS from the moment you step up to Savoy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012

I said up to because before I could even get my lugage out of the cab Fransico the bellboy/doorman was hard at work. EVERYONE at the Savoy is extremely friendly and makes you feel welcome. While I was waiting in line to check in there were 5 people ahead of me, one man did not have his reservation number, his work had booked his room & did not have accurate information. The next guests were a party of 4 (with 6 more arriving) from another country each had denied credit cards, as they were trying to find one they could use, Mary at the front desk kept a smile on her face the whole time, gave me eye contact to let me know she will be right with me. ( I appreciated that) I also appreciated the fact that while these young men were not prepared and fumbled around trying to figure out what they could do , Mary treated them with respect and kindness.
Francisco was ready to help us with our bags once my husband and I got checked in. As we walked past the pool he pointed out area's of the hotel, ie: restaurant, bar, pool, fitness center, and gave us information about each, then he pointed out "Rocky" a staff member. ( Rocky gives a wave to us which I thought was pleasant.) After getting settled in our nice room with a WONDERFUL VIEW (room 212-2) we headed down pass the pool to proceed to the beach. Rocky meets us and introduces himself. He then personally walks us out to meet Jeffery the beach attendant who will set you up with lounge chairs and an umbrella. Rocky then brings us ice water and a bucket of ice, (you could order drinks or food and he will bring that to) this man literally gets to know EACH guest, he remembers their likes or desires and makes sure you are taken care of...all with a friendly smile! The Next day we go to get our towels at the towel bar by the pool and there is a friendly man working "Gary" he was the general manager,(nice to see everyone helps where needed). we commend him for the REMARKABLE STAFF !!!! Gary talks with us and tells us some points of interest and other places to eat within walking distance.
I have stayed at a few places in Miami, The Riviera,Ablion,Chesterfield,Mayfair,Marriott, Doral,Impala,Fairfield,Crown plaza,Sofitel, just to name a few, and this STAFF OUTSHINES THEM ALL! they do their job with a smile on thier face all day every day. Everyone right down to housekeeping. if you want to be pampered, have a clean room, nice views, right on the beach, & walking distance to Ocean Dr night life, then this should be your choice HANDS DOWN. I have even booked this hotel for my son's honeymoon.

The Savoy is located right in the middle of South Beach and right on the ocean! The hotel itself is a little old, but the rooms were very spacious, and the room service/concierge was also great. Overall, I would recommend The Savoy to someone looking for a decent room in South Beach in a great location.

The best thing about the Savoy is the staff, they are there to help and always friendly. In particular Tony, who assisted us with our luggage. He can be seen on sight wearing a traditional Pith helmet and always has a smile on his face. Ask him for tips on the area and he will do his best to fill you in.

The hotel was built in the 30's and is actually two hotels now combined into one. We stayed in the North building on the third floor. The room was spacious but it does show its age. The web site stated the hotel was remodeled which means new paint, carpet, bath update, and possibly some new furniture. The best thing about the hotel is it's location, right on the beach and close to the action on Ocean Avenue but without the noise. Each room comes with two beach chairs and an umbrella on the beach but keep in mind you will be charged a $13 per day resort fee. While on the beach you can order cocktails and food so take advantage of the two for one specials. There is another Tony on the beach that takes care of you and he too is a great guy and very nice.

We came to Miami to see the SF Giants play the Marlins in the new ballpark but did not realize that Memorial Day weekend is the annual Urban Beach Festival. So unless you are into Hip-Hop I suggest you stay away from Memorial day weekend and book another date. Even the hotel staff wanted to get out of Miami, it gets crazy on Ocean Ave and surrounding area. The police presence was impressive and the party goes all night long. Which makes it hard to sleep when the partiers come back to their rooms at 4 or 5 AM.

Breakfast in the restaurant was great, order the skillet breakfast but get only one for two people as it is HUGE!

For the location alone I would recommend the Savoy but keep in mind this is an old hotel doing its best to keep up with the higher end hotels in the area.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view, it is worth the extra money.

We (me and my husband with our 3,5 year old and 9 month old baby) stayed here for five nights in March, before heading down to Key West. We had a pool view one bedroom suite, which was perfect for us. The suite was located closer to the Ocean Drive side of the hotel, but still had some pool view. We could even spot the ocean from the balconies. The suite was well kept and felt newly renovated. It was good to have a fridge and microwave for our baby's food, other than that we didn't really use the kitchen. It wasn't equipped with any china, utensils, cookware etc, which could be good to know if you're planning to cook. We walked over to the restaurant for some plates and glasses (we ordered delivery from Big Pink a few nights). The bed was comfortable, and the sofa bed was fine, too.

The pools were both a good size, we only used one of them (heated). The pool area was nice, well kept, plenty of chairs and umbrellas. We never took advantage of using the beach chairs, will have to do that next time!

We thought the location was perfect, close enough to all shopping, restaurants, playgrounds etc, but still quiet at night. The front staff and the bell boys were friendly and polite. We only had one minor issue with the restaurant, as we wanted to order one of the pasta dishes as spaghetti only (for our kid), and were charged for a full pasta dish. We were surprised and a bit annoyed when they told us they couldn't do anything about it, but they worked it out finally.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay at The Savoy and will probably stay here again on our next trip (if they can set us up in connecting rooms as my mother will accompany us then).

The Savoy is a really great hotel with big spacious rooms located in a perfect area in south beach miami. The hotel is beach front meaning you are only steps away from the beautiful sands of south beach. With 2 large swimming pools (one heated) it has everything you need to cool down on those hot summer days. Situated on Ocean Drive you are right in the heart of all that south beach has to offers. Staff were really friendly upon arrival and check-in. The restaurant serves delicious food and also has a happy hour from 4pm-8pm each evening with 2 for 1 drinks and snacks. Overall we had a wonderful stay at the Savoy and we will definitely return in the future.

We had the a wonderful time at The Savoy.
The staff was very friendly & attentive to all our needs.
The location is walking distance to all the action of South Beach, but when you wanted to just relax and get away from the noise the Savoy was the place.

Room Tip: "Higher floors are quiet"

The stay started off decent but went downhill quickly. There were little things about the hotel that were below par, but could be overlooked such as a very hard and squeaky bed and a room that needed updated badly with an old tube tv (that didnt work correctly), cracks in the walls and a shower that barely had hot water. On our final full day, a staff member notified us that our rental car had been vandalized in The Savoy's valet lot and the police were at the lot. Someone had thrown what looked like paint thinner on ten vehicles in the lot. The valet is run by a separate company who blatantly lied to us. The manager told us they would take care of all our expenses; but then he left and left his workers to tell us they are not liable for anything. They need to learn that a sign saying you're not liable does not hold up in the real world.

When we got back to The Savoy we met with Carlos Mendez, the Rooms Manager. Carlos was very nice at first; he told us he would take care of everything and that we wouldn't have to worry about any expenses as he would get the insurance information from the valet company. Carlos had also told us he would wipe out our valet charges. The valet charges were taken off our bill, but only after I asked a front desk receptionist, who literally did it right in front of me. Like I said, this was our last day and we had just wasted the entire morning dealing with this problem, only getting actual help from our own insurance agent.

We were lucky enough to get to spend the afternoon on the beach when I got to visit with Carlos one more time around 5 p.m., eight hours after we were first notified of the incident. Carlos told me he was still working on getting the insurance information, and since we were leaving at 6 a.m. the next morning, he would call us with everything. We left more than two weeks ago, I have left several messages and we've had to pay our insurance deductible and have not heard a word from anyone at The Savoy.

Everyone was very nice at The Savoy, as long as you just wanted something minor. Otherwise, you got the runaround and they would just tell you what you wanted to hear. There are MUCH nicer places to stay in Miami Beach, so I wouldn't waste your time going here. The last thing anyone wants to do on their vacation is deal with a problem they didn't cause, so it would have been nice to know the management at The Savoy cared. When you only take a 4-day getaway, it's not a lot of fun to lose a morning to something like this. I realize the real problem was the person who vandalized the car, but we also left the car in the hands of The Savoy, and they should have been willing to take responsibility, especially if they ever wanted our return business!

Bottom line, the hotel needs updated, and the staff needs to hold up to their word. This is our lasting image of the hotel, not to mention the vomit we saw on the carpet on the way out.

Dear Guest,
We are truly sorry that your rental car was vandalized on the last day of your stay. Unfortunately the insurance process after such an event is difficult for us to control. Carlos is very experienced and compassionate regarding these types of issues. He did comp all the overnight parking charges related to your stay. He also provided all the insurance information prior to your departure.

Again, my apologies and I hope this event does not keep you from returning to The Savoy in the future. I would be more than happy to discuss the issue more with you personally, if that would help. I can be contacted by phone or email.

Regards,
Gary Hyre, GM The Savoy Hotel
