We did a one night stay in South Beach. The Ritz was a splurge for us but we wanted to be directly on the beach and close to the action but not too close. This hotel is perfect for that, however, when we booked they could not guarantee a room with two double beds at their lowest rate :( so we upgraded room to a pool view, partial water view. We got neither. Our room was a 1st floor room, with a door to a semi private patio with a hedge for privacy, that led to the pool. While this room might be perfect for some, we would have preferred some kind of view for the price, or just have stayed in the lowest cost room..The trek to our room was confusing, up a floor, hallway then down a floor...not good for two teenage girls who could get lost. We didn't want to let them out of our sights. The prices for food and drinks here are excessive.
We did receive excellent service from the valet, but that cost an arm and a leg, and no alternative...we arrived early as we were told we could enjoy the pool until our room was ready... Trudged all the way to the pool to find that a key card is needed to get in the dressing room...my friend went all the way back to the front desk and stood in line again to get a key... One employee would not let us in while we were waiting but then another happened by and did let us in when I asked...hmmm...
The pool is ok but a bit outdated, I've seen nicer pool areas. They did have the most excellent service at the pool, with towel service as a nice touch, the only touch that really made me feel like we were at a Ritz. John our pool server was super nice and accommodating to us and helped us choose a spot to go out to dinner... He was knowledgable of the area and gave us a few choices that we would later be thankful for with so many options on SB. Thanks John! We went to Samba Sushi and later to Havana 1957. Both excellent and reasonably priced.
Our room was ready for us at about noon which was nice, as check in is at 3pm i think...room not as special as I would expect from this caliber of hotel. It was clean but one trip from the pool back to the room and there was a maintenance man in our room working on our toilet! The bathroom was beautiful and large. This was fun with 4 girls getting ready to go out on the town... We could hear everything that was going on in the room next door :( I imagine they could hear us as well, our dance music and 14 year old banter.
