Tasting Menu on a Tuesday night. 8p reservation but were corralled to the bar for almost 30 minutes by the hostess due to "being backed up?". Once seated, dining room probably only 75% full. We could not figure if it was a lean night for staffing out front, in the kitchen, or what? Perhaps it was strategy to increase receipts at the bar. Scarpetta- you should not do this to new neighbors and potential repeat customers, especially on a Tuesday night! Okay, dead horse beaten sufficiently.
But, I must say, the food and the attentive service by all of the waitstaff, especially our waiter, Serkan, made up for the chilly reception. The real stars were the spaghetti, polenta with mushrooms, and desserts (pane cotta along with the chocolate cake)! One real miss was the duck ravioli-the marsala reduction over this dish was much too sweet for us (you know, that one note sweet like from spoonful of sugar).
We walked away from this dinner talking about how wonderful the spaghetti was and are still talking about it this morning over coffee. Overall, for us, Scarpetta is on par with some the best meals we have had anywhere (here or abroad) at this price point.
