I must admit that I was a bit scared when booking this hotel with my partner for 6 days/5 nights. It advertises itself as a gay boutique hotel and I wasn't sure if it was going to be a raunchy or classy establishment. It is a classy establishment and I was very pleased with my stay at Lords and will be returning for another visit soon!
The hotel has a very cute and fun decor! The staff here is first class and very friendly! Jamal, George, Charlie and Abraham were always willing to help us find what we needed, offer suggestions on fun things to do and greeted us with a smile upon returning from our daily excursions. I loved stopping by the desk just to have a conversation with the staff! The 3 jacuzzi pools are open late night which is a nice way to relax after a long night of partying! The rooms are on the smaller side however very clean! Besides you're in South Beach...how much time will you actually spend in a room?
The location...THE LOCATION IS AMAZING!!! Close to all of the action on Ocean, gay clubs, beaches and restaurants! Loved the 5 minute walk each morning to the gay beach! The hotel does provide you with fresh beach towels each day which is nice!
The restaurant is not apart of the hotel and I will be writing a less favorable review. I wanted to people watch one night and smoke a cig on the the patio with my partner. We had bought a small snack next door and upon arriving to the patio to have a seat I was turned away. I was rudely educated by the staff at the restaurant that each business is seperate. I wasn't aware of this...they didn't even have one customer!!! This was a turn off considering the amount of money that we were paying to stay here and I couldn't sit on the patio??? So no big deal right...we go into the bar area to sit, have a drink (purchase a drink!!!) and eat our snack. We were kindly greeted by Karen (LOVE HER!!!) the bartender, when I was again approached and turned away...this time by Oliver the owner. The hotel staff did say that we were welcome to sit on the far right side of the patio which would have been fine however that was being used by friends of workers at the restaurant. Being in a hospitality type business as well I attempted to have a conversation with Oliver when he threw up his hand and walked away! I will say that the following night Oliver did apologize to my partner and I and bought us a drink. That was nice! I was able at that time to have a business minded conversation with him about "how" to deliver a message to hotel guests and potential customers of his business. The only reason why I supported his business at all was due to Karen the bartender! She is a gem and in fact we spent one night having cocktails and conversing with her! Your trip to South Beach would not be complete without a trip to the bar to see Karen...loved the Lychee Martinis!
Later in the week while having a drink on the patio we did see an african american couple escorted away from sitting on the patio because they didn't purchase a drink. Rules are rules right??? Nope, not when a caucasian couple came up 15 minutes later, sat in the same spot, said they were not here to drink but only to smoke a cigarette and the restaurant staff allowed it! Wouldn't have bothered me so much except I happen to be a mixed african american male as well. I would urge the owners of the hotel to have a conversation with the staff/owner of ChaChaRoosters about diversity! I understand that it was memorial week with Urban Weekend coming up and this event has left a bad taste in the mouths of locals and business owners in South Beach however that wasn't the purpose of my trip! I was just there to enjoy the company of my partner!
I will recommend the hotel without hesitation...but I cannot do the same for the restaurant! Only Karen! The restaurant is a bad look for the hotel!
