My husband and I stayed at the Breakwater for 5 nights for a little get-away and were very pleased with so much. The front desk/reception people (most especially Natalie and Ann) were very accomodating with everything I asked from great restaurants to inquiring about certain areas. I liked how convenient it was to South Point where we would go biking everyday. It was nice having complimentary bike rentals(if you are a hotel guest), and complimentary beach towels and chairs and we also took advantage of the apples in the lobby. The only disturbing thing was the noice with the music at night and also next door to the Cleavander...yikes!! I will definitely go back again, but just request another room in the back!!

On checking in, we were given room 230, an "ocean view suite," instead of the oceanfront room we had paid for. The bellman commented that he'd never booked anyone into this room before. Little wonder. The "view" actually overlooks the nightclub next door, whose cacaphonic storm of house music thunders through the night (it is 3:05AM as I write this with no relief in sight). The night clerk, when asked by my wife when the music might be expected to cease, volunteered helpfully that "ear plugs are available at the front desk. And they are complimentary." At a discounted rate of over $400 per night , that seemed almost too generous to be true.

Outstanding staff. Where to start. Appreciated Paul the valet guy went above and beyond with our bags. The reception / front desk made sure all our questions were addressed in all the detail. Location is awesome. People looking for a quieter neighborhood and complaining about noise should avoid south beach please. The rooms are great. We had second floor ocean view. Will come back again.

I only stayed here for the location, and the room. [penthouse] Unfortuantely, the only thing penthouse about this room, is it is on the top floor, and has access to a large veranda overlooking the beach-park-street in front of the hotel. It is a very small King bedroom, which has a semi private balcony overlooking a huge airconditioning equipment next to pool of next door property. With sliding doors open, you cannot have a conversation for the extreme blower noise. Originally, this hotel had a balcony walk way along all those north facing rooms which lead onto the veranda, and could qualify as pent house. No longer. All those rooms are divided by cable dividers, and no passage allowed. Notwithstanding the false advertising, the hotel rooms are quite nice (albiet small (10' x 10' room, with a 10'x 4' bath/shower area)), with nice appointments, nice bedding, large flat screen HD tv, coffee pot, refrigerator, double sinks. No closet space usable for two people. I would not have stayed here without the 1/2 price discount I received, which still cost me over $290 for one night, taxes, and manadatory valet parking, and resort fees included). Staff is very nice. Security is excellent. Restaurant and outdoor cafe menus did not look that interesting, and were especially pricey.
