“TAKE THIS TOUR!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2015 NEW

Calvin Zook is a tourist guide treasure!
He has 50 years living in Miami and loves to explain the history of the city, the Art Deco scene and many of the important people.
We did the walking tour and then the next day did the tour in an antique car (another great choice). Given the option we would have done the car first for a better overview but Calvin took us into hotels, explained history and people, we went on roof tops and lobbies and in general had a great time. Do it early in the day when it is not so hot and hopefully 77 yr old Calvin will be your Guide.

James was TERRIFIC! Knowledgeable, passionate and great narrator. I learned to love Art Deco. He made the buildings come alive.

“Exceeded expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2015

Researching what to do in Miami as a first time visitor can be confusing as there is so much to offer. After much research I chose The Art Deco tour based on reviews. On the day, we raced the Astor hotel as our ship took forever to clear. Calvin, our guide was calm and made us laugh from the minute we met him. He began the tour by carefully explaining the specifics of the Art Deco period. Each hotel or building we visited revealed the most amazing foyers, original 1930 bars and this was only the beginning. Calvin is an energetic man in his early 70's who displays a great knowledge of the area and a passion for his subject. He includes stories about people, the history of the locals who managed to save the beautiful buildings and adds all sorts of interesting and amazing information, even which gorgeous washrooms to use. We were able to see beautiful views of South Beach from rooftops that we definitely would not have known about or seen on our own. Every concierge and waiter knew Calvin and they were happy to accommodate our tour.
He was very helpful in suggesting places to visit after the tour and insisted he took us there to make sure we got to the right place.
If you want boring tourist stuff don't use Calvin, If you want a genuine insight to the early development of South Beach and Miami loaded with fascinating information delivered with old fashioned humour....Calvin is your man.
For some who mention neon lights, strangely ....they actually only come on at night.

“Great tour, so great I wanted to follow James around when we were done.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2015

I rarely branch out to take in the sites when I travel on business and this walking cocktail tour was worth breaking away from my hotel room and computer. James led us through five hotels with signature cocktails. He was full of lots of history, quirky facts and thoroughly entertaining. Worth every minute.

“Excellent Tour!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2015

This was an excellent tour of Miami Beach. Our tour lasted approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes and there were only 7 people plus our guide, Calvin. As a resident of Miami Beach for the past 8 years I see these hotels frequently however I never really knew the history and architecture behind them. Calvin was entertaining and fun. I have already begun recommending this tour to friends. Thank you!
