We used TripAdvisor reviews in making our decision to book a night at the TownHouse hotel in Miami. This place gets most important aspects of a hotel stay right. The service is prompt and courteous, valet and bellhops are efficient, and the lobby, rooms and halls are very clean.
Visitors should know that the rooms are very minimalist and don't have a lot of space if you have lots of luggage or (as someone else pointed out) need a counter in the bathroom for makeup, shaving or hair products. If you are used to standard Holiday Inn accomodations you will be suprised.
You'll also be surprised to find that the exercise facilities consist of a stationary bicycle at the end of the hall.
It took us a little bit of doing to figure out how to operate the light over our bed. We eventually found a short in the cord, and when we called the front desk we received prompt attention. The lights are not very bright in the room and it would have been nice to have one or two more of them. The bed did not look like it would be very comfortable, but it was better than many hotel beds.
The location is very good. If you walk to the right out the front door you're just a few steps from Miami Beach. If you walk to the left, you're just a few steps to Collins Avenue, which has lots of stores and some eateries.
The breakfast was described as French. The front desk clerk started to call it a continental breakfast and stopped and corrected himself. I wasn't sure why he did that (aren't they the same?), but Vive la différence! I've never had espresso at a hotel breakfast, which made me very happy. There was crusty bread and croissants and some very nice muffins. There were also hard boiled eggs. The nutella on the tables was a nice surprise, too. If you are the kind of person who likes to start the day with a big bacon-and-eggs spread you might be disappointed, but if you just like some good fare to get your engine running (like I do), you'll be all set.
The bikes that are available for guest use is a nice idea. We would have borrowed them if it had not been raining the day we were there.
All in all, if you really want to experience Miami and Miami Beach, the TownHouse offers a good location, good price and clean place to sleep.
