Welcome to South Beach!! A few tips to help make your stay worth your time and money and forgo a lot of the fustrations you read on here! Parking - don't do it. If you rented a car. Valet it at your hotel and forget about it. Realize you are in a metro area of 5+ million. Its crowded and its an island. There are many options such as the buggy which is FREE and they come pick you up. Also there is deco bike which to me is the best way to see the city, architecture and sights at a pace worth your time. Plus a taxi will cost about the same as parking for the day.
If paying an extreme amount of money for a lackluster lunch and dinner and cocktails is your thing than eat on ocean drive. Think times square in new york. The people watching is cool but its expensive and not quality. I have lived here 14 years and have eaten on ocean twice. With guest visiting. Its a tourist trap. Walk two blocks west to washington and you will find Latin, Pizza, Thai, Chinese etc. Not fine dining but budget friendly. Want to have a quality lunch dinner? Head South of Fifth or Espanola way or Lincoln Road.
Be aware that this is a well known adult place to visit that celebrates diversity. If you do not have a problem with excessive amounts of alcohol, topless women, homosexuals, night clubs, strip clubs, tattoo parlors and bong shops. Bring the kids!! Or not.
Must do: South Pointe Park - late afternoon sunset to see the cruise ships go by - Use Deco Bike! Shopping - Lincoln Road - you will find everything from H+M to Designer labels. Arts and Culture - free movies at New World Center. Major comedy and concert performances at the Fillmore. World class modern art collection at Bass Museum!!
