This is the beach area you always hear about in Florida. It's legendary but it can also be crowded, depending on the season. You gotta go at least once.
South Miami beaches are great sandy and large beaches but overall you get there to say "I was there". We've travelled extensively around the world and saw far better beaches in South America or the Red Sea, so great beach watcher, nice atmosphere, but don't expect too much.
It's probably really touristy, but if you are looking to have a good time you have to stay here. You will find everything on the strip.

We think it is a great place to visit and relax and nothing that we disliked. Los of electricity in the air. Like going on vacation without leaving the country.
