“Friendly, clean and quaint”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2009

We attended a wedding last Nov in Miami and stayed away from South Beach because of the over-priced hotels. We found The New Hotel on Tripadvisor with great reviews so we booked it right away. When we got there, Ann (the owner) greated us and gave us some information on what's going on around the area such as festivals and other attractions in North Beach and South Beach. She was extremely friendly and hospitable. The rooms were small but very clean. The area was in a nice neighborhood and the beach is just around the corner. There's a restaurant a block away called Sazon that serves great and cheap food. The parking situation is also great considering that in South Beach where all our family stayed in, they had to pay $20/day for parking. The New Hotel is located in a residential area and if you can find street parking, it's FREE! Otherwise there is a small parking lot on the corner that charges $10/night. We definately recommend The New Hotel.

My mother was traveling to Miami alone for three days at the beginning of October, and asked me if I could book her a hotel online. She wanted to be close to the beach, but after a great deal of searching on my part, I couldn't find anything that I'd feel comfortable booking. All the hotels in the area seemed small, overpriced, and somewhat sketchy - I didn't find one hotel on TripAdvisor without very strong negative reviews, except for the really pricey ones. Unfortunately, I only had about a day or two notice to finalize the booking, and as such was about to book another hotel that seemed sort-of-okay-maybe-if-I-crossed-my-fingers, until I stumbled upon the New Hotel.

I couldn't find my in the way of information on the website (I believe it's still not finished), but an e-mail to the owner, Ann, was answered almost immediately (good sign!). I explained that I was trying to book an extremely last minute trip for my mother, so Ann send over some information and photos, and offered us a great rate. We booked the room, and boy were we ever glad - my mom called me right away when she arrived to tell me how it was one of the greatest hotels she had ever stayed in!

My mother is a real stickler for cleanliness (she even brings her own bedsheet to avoid sleeping on hotel linens), but the New Hotel passed the test. The rooms were gorgeous and modern, but the most impressive aspect of the hotel was definitely the stellar hospitality. Ann and Luis went out of their way to ensure that my mother's stay was comfortable, enjoyable and above her expectations - something she especially appreciated since she was traveling alone.

Miami is my mother's favourite city to visit, and when she returns, she won't have to look any further than the New Hotel.

Stayed at this small hotel on Halloween and the noise here was truly frightening. Not only is it sure that your room will either face a very busy thoroughfare or the parking lot of a 24 hours pharmacy/convenience store, they blasted disco music at the pool until past 1:30 a.m. I'm not talking south beach trance, I'm talking 1990's bar mitzvah. The pool area is nice enough, but very small, and be sure to plan your day around the 1-1.5 hours that the pool deck receives sunlight. We felt we were being constantly observed or prodded to eat or drink from the bar. Not unlike going home for the holidays with mom. But mom seems more genuine and doesn't give that sense that she is trying to jack up your bill. This place is so small we were afraid to eat the food, how could it possibly be fresh given the size of the place and the feeling we were the only ones actually staying there. It is a healthy two blocks walk from the beach unlike the 1/2 block they advertise. We would like to help out a small mom and pop sort of place but this place just gave us both the creeps. And I doubt it really had much to do with it being October 31st. Way over priced for what it offers.

I haven't in been in Miami for a while and booked this hotel based on the fact that usually the beach, which is close to the hotel, is full of residents rather than tourists.
The New Hotel is a cozy establishment but with pretty spacious size rooms and great laid back atmosphere. Definitely more than I was expecting and not far away from the nightlife in South Beach. I only stayed for a weekend but if I ever have to be on North Beach again, The New Hotel is my pick.

I was thrilled to find this hotel online in what I consider the best neighborhood in Miami Beach. Having lived in Miami and been part of the up and coming of South Beach since the late 80s, I adore the area between 69th and 75th street since it really has that South Beach feeling from the early 90s. It is quiet, a bit run down, not entirely safe and just very laid back with a good choice of regular shopping and some good reasonably priced restaurants. The beach is fantastic uncrowded and friendly. Until the New Hotel opened it was just the Days Inn and some dingy motels around here, but now there is the fashionable, hip and friendly New hotel!

I arrived around 1pm and could not check in until 3, but was friendly met by Luis at the pool. The pool is great but there are no sun beds, which I was told would arrive later this month. I was staying in room 10, which is very large. It features an open kitchen (that has no equipment other than a small fridge) a very comfortable king bed and a small couch. The bathroom was beautiful with a shower. There was a flat screen TV and cable but not a lot of channels were available, which is a pity. The room and hotel look indeed very new and clean but I was missing some typical and small features that would make the hotel complete. But the great thing about a hotel this size is that you just mention it to the owners and really have the feeling they will follow up on it. Another charming aspect of this hotel is that you automatically socialize with the other quests without having the B&B feeling of that you have to talk to them.

The hotel provides beach towels and beach chairs and that makes it a great choice if you just want to do the beach. Guests that expect to be in the middle of the South Beach non-stop party may be disappointed, it is quite a distance from there. But if you are here to relax, rest, unwind, socialize and to top up on your tan, you just won't have a better choice than the New Hotel.

Rooms look great and are comfortable and clean. There are not a lot of rooms which has a positive effect on the vacation experience, for instance by getting more contact with the staff.
Staff is indeed very nice and helpful, food is good as well.
From this location in Miami beach (residential area) you can easily take a bus for $2 to SOFI, Ocean drive etc. The bus stop is on the other side of the street.
We were able to make day trips to the everglades, key west and Kennedy space center from here (rented a car). The beach is very close as well.
