The location is fantastic. Restaurants / bars and beach nearby. The hotel is quite old. Loud air conditioning wall unit. No elevator. Room and bathroom was clean. A bit noisy at times. Service was good. Great place to crash for a night or two.

Set in pretty Espinola Way, The Clay is superbly located for South Beach, Art Deco Historical area and a stopover pre/post cruise. Seems as though the redecorating in the hallways has been going on for a while, and maybe a while more. Rooms are ok with both ceiling fans and air-con. In-room fridge is great for shop bought beers, also a safe . Not easy without a lift to access 2nd/3rd floors if you've got a lot of luggage.Jerry's Diner is nearby and open 24hrs,we had breakfast which was enjoyable and reasonably priced. There is easy access to the beach, bars and shops/restaurants 'til your hearts content .Lookout for the LOCAL Bus, 25c anywhere. Also the Miami Airport-South Beach flyer stops about 2 blocks away at Lincoln Rd Mall, $2.35 one way.

I was in Doral , Fl for a seminar, ready to return to my home in AZ Sunday. My flight was cancelled. So I decided to try out the South Beach area, choosing to be stranded there rather than Doral. A friend knew of the Clay hotel and I thought: I'll try it. I was delighted with the price, the room ( I had a kitchenette). It was clean, no frills, no mal odors and couldn't have been in a better location. The air conditioner was on too high (both in temperature and I couldn't reach it!) and the handyman came and adjusted it for me promptly. I finally got a flight out and my transport came at 4AM. It was a bit scary to be rolling my suitcase down the street in the dark to the front hotel door, but when I got there , the lobby had a warm welcoming glow and very nice desk people. I would stay there again, definitely!

Stayed at The Clay Hotel on the 27th April 2013. Newly renovated room was good. Previous occupant had vomited in the Room and it stank of Vomit. Used half a bottle of cologne and a tin of deodorant to no avail. The cleaner would have noticed this all day yet chose to put a guest in it ..... was awful. Cooking from downstairs choked the hotel rooms out, was like sleeping in a fast food kitchen. No towels in room had To go ask for towels. Renovations going on which I appreciate has to be done at sometime but..... At least warn guests and maybe offer a discount until finished.Noise from patrons downstairs means no Sleep till about 3:30 am never before that.
Bottom line ...... Would not recommend.... Sorry.

Room Tip: Can't help you there.....

The first night we arrived late and were put into the wing with the 300's. They are remodeling that wing. It was very scary looking and smelled bad from the restaurant below. The room however was very basic but clean. I talked to the front desk and they were extremely helpful and promised to move us which they did the next day. Thank God because we were dreading the stay and debating if we should move.

Pros: The cost, Espaniola way, lovely restaurants beach, Collins ave and Ocean Dr 5 min walk away. New remodeled wing has great decor, comfy bed, iron, hair dryer and fridge and safe in rooms.

Cons: Construction, if placed on this wing god help you!

All in all, a great experience (once we were moved to 100's floor). I would stay here again. Very helpful staff.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing Washington Ave on 1st floor. Away from Espaniola way if you want to get any slee...

it was such a beautiful place. i went here with a few friends and had a lovely time. it was cheaper than the marriot but just as classy, i loved every bit of it. The bed was soooo comfortable and thwe hard wood floors were so shiiny , its so hard to beleave that this place is a gen of natural history and yet so modern at the same time, i loved it.

Room Tip: while this place was amazing, i would ask to have one of the new rooms, which were recently renovate...

You get what you pay for and this hotel was well worth it. We only stayed the night before our cruise. It was clean, cheap and right in the middle of everything in the South Beach area. Would def stay again :)
