We are fans of budget hotels and saw from the Clay web site that it had been highly rated in a review of budget hotels. I am not sure how budget $180/night is but it seems at the upper end of the range.
At check in the staff were harassed but did try their best to be helpful. There was a problem with car parking as the hotel seemed to have a limited numbers of concessionary passes to the parking building.
Our room was definitely small and minimally equipped - just one small/medium towel each. It was well worn and just clean enough. The room was also pretty noisy at night but we expected that so regard that as comment rather than criticism.
Washington Avenue is not the smartest street in the area and the hotel is directly opposite a lap dancing club and ideally located if you need a tattoo. Having said that we felt perfectly safe walking around at night and the are attractive residential streets behind the hotel.
The hotel is ideally placed for walking to the Art Deco of Ocean Boulevard or the shops a Lincoln Avenue
