The Clay Hotel is on older hotel and could use a lot of work. Still, for the price, you can't beat it. It's located in a trendy area of South Beach, with two night clubs right across the street. A grocery and a ton a restaurants are within a block.

The hotel has free wireless in the lobby and the second floor common room, which was a nice bonus.

We were in an economy room with a shared bath for nine nights and had a great time. The staff was very accomodating and friendly.

The room was very run-down and could use paint, carpet and a good airing-out, but the maid service kept it clean. The A/C, TV and phone all worked well. The rooms facing Washington are noisy, but give a great view of the South Beach scene on weekend nights.

I had low expectations, but it was cheap so you can't complain! But... I booked my single hotel room, and had a double room with TV, air con and ceiling fan. The en suite was clean and the room was serviced daily. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. There was a lot of noise from the restaurant below but it made me feel like I was in the centre so no complaints. I would stay again and may travel there again next year from the UK.

Finally got round to writing up a quick review on the Clay Hotel/hostel.

Stayed here in September with 3 friends from the UK, we spent 3 nights in the Clay and found that whilst the rooms were very basic they were as much as we could ask for with the price we paid. Rooms had toilet and shower, bunk beds, and lockable storage compartments.

As we were on a tight budget and only touring 2 weeks around Florida we looked for a hotel/hostel that was central and cheap. The Clay fulfilled both these purposes.

Situated on Washington Ave its ideally placed for walking along Collins (Ave shopping) and Ocean Drive (eating and drinking). The Hostel has a secured parking facility in a security controlled parking lot one block up (small charge approx $15 for 3 days)

Also available are a number of well priced tours which I recommend anyone take and can be booked through reception.

All in all, its cheap, central and ideal for a few nights rest between sight seeing and clubbing.

This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed at! After taking a look at our allocated room we quickly returned to reception to complain. We were then shown a further five rooms each of which were sub standard, all extremely filthy & in bad repair with serious security issues (no/broken air con, safe and one room didn't even have a door lock!) We booked a 'luxury' room and although we were fully aware that this is a basic hotel, there is no way anybody can justify charging in excess of £80 per night for this total dump! Almost forgot, for your £80 you do also get a pair of dirty knickers wrapped in your bath towel - lovely!!
