“Good Location but totally overrated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

Location is great.. just walking distance from the beach, boardwalk, restaurants and rental car place so it was very convenient. $30 taxi fair to the Miami port so, if you are staying for just a couple of days like we did before our cruise it's not that bad.

Our room's furniture looked old and nothing like the picture's you see on their website, floors looked kind of dirty and elevator was so tiny that it only fit two people and couple of bags.

For the money you pay I think is way below average.

For the money I paid I think I deserved better. Most of the time I went to get coffee and there was no creamer. The kitchenette was not the one shown in the add.I spent so many months trying to look for a good hotel room, and when this one entered in my mail box I was so pleased with what management said about it so I looked no further. They said it's free hotel shuttle service and I had to pay . The board under the bed keep on falling out,and take in consideration I am 136 lbs, note the bed is brand new.Upon checking in you required to pay $ 50 in case you break their utensils.you are not told about the buses that run in that area, because they want you to use their transport,so I had to find this out on my own.

Room Tip: don't believe the word that management use to describe their hotel read the reviews those rea mo...

Pros: Good location. One block from the beach and ten from city centre. Accepts lots of packages. Great room cleaning service.

Cons: Air conditioning too damn hight at night. Not very good breakfast. No kitchen tools nor oven.

It's a good place to stay for a couple of days, but not so good for long vacations since the lack of kitchen is a deal breaker.

Small but nice view of the beach, free WiFi, the room was nicely furnished, but floor was not mopped, There was no smell upon arrival however upon our return in the evening the room smelled like mold. There is no control over the a/c - Brrr! The breakfast was fine, with a fair amount of options. However seating is extremely limited. Very Friendly staff. Overall not a bad stay for the price of Miami beach, but certainly no excuse not to clean the floors, a/c vents and unit.

We were looking for a good deal close to south beach and this fit the bill. The rooms are very old and musty, beds are lumpy, and floors creaked. The doors have springs and are obnoxiously loud and you can hear them all night. Rooms are very small and walls are paper thin. Upside is only location, price, and can walk to the beach.

It was hard to decide which Miami hotel to pick, but we decided on the Lorraine Hotel because of the price and the location. My husband had already stayed here once, and he "warned me" somehow. Luckily, the hotel is "OK" and I was very satisfied.
We stayed one first day here, then went to other places in Florida and got back for four more nights. The first stay we had a room in the second floor overlooking a dumpster, which was not very nice, so we requested to have it changed for a room with a balcony for our second part of the trip. We didn't get the balcony (they said it had a different rate) but they gave us a room in the third floor overlooking Collins Ave, which was great! (You could not open the windows though, but it was fine).

We liked this hotel and honestly, if we went back to Miami Beach, I would consider staying here again. Yes, there are some "warnings" indeed (and although I state them as "warnings" for the travellers who may read this to be prepared and to have a full picture to decide, I also think it is an important opportunity for improvement for the hotel).

Pros:
- Right next to the Miami Beach
- Nice, big, clean rooms
- Complimentary Mineral Water on the day of arrival
- Great wifi reception in the room, Lobby and even in the Elevator!
- Daily housekeeping
- Hotel provides beach towels
- Parking: few spots on the hotel street (26th street) or you can go to the parking lot that is one block away. On both cases you have a parking meter that costs 1 USD per hour (there is a three hour limit, but you can add time)
- Breakfast is nice and filling (waffles, fruits, yoghurts, sorts of breads)
- Right below the hotel is a general grocery/deli store and a restaurant. One block away you can find a supermarket, a Subway store, other delis, etc.
- Hotel is 30 minutes aways walking from South Beach or there is a Metro Bus stop close by.
- Nice service and friendly, super helpful staff.
- They allowed us to stay an extra hour when checking out. That was super helpful to enjoy a while at the beach, bathe and then leave!

Cons:
- Rooms need maintenance and a little "color": they seem hospital rooms. Paint is ok, but there are some patches made and it shows different colors; A/C was set too cold and it was not possible to set the temperature from inside the room (my husband ended up strapping a shoe box to the vent!).
- Walls seem paper-made: you can hear the people in the rooms next to yours loud and clear (as if they were with you). Some acoustic isolation could make it work.
- Floors are creaky in the outer corridors. The wood gives an interesting look though... and in the rooms they sound too loud when you step (or the neighbours on the sides and over).
- Beds are twin size, so don't expect much space if you are sharing it. Linens and pillows are alright.
- Bathrooms definitely need updating. In the second stay, there was a fixed hole in the bathroom door (and you could still see the punch in the door).

I would recommend this hotel to other travellers, and I would even return, but have in mind that is not a 5 star hotel -but they try hard to provide a good service-. :)

Room Tip: Definitely ask for the third floor rooms and either the ones with balcony overlooking 26th street or...

Thank you for your honest review! And for considering to return given the pros and the cons. We are happy to let you know that we are adding some life to our rooms. Slowly but surely, we are changing all curtains and adding some color to the bedding with pillows and runners! We look forward to showing it to you in person :)

For the $250+ per night stay, i feel we got taken " Hook, Line & Sinker " ! Where to begin.......the room, while big with high ceilings, there was NO A/C adjustments for the room, they said they were LOW on towels, NO ice machine ( really guys, no F***in ICE ?!?!?! ), they're so-called breakfast consisted of a coffee machine, and a juice machine that that was open from 7:30 to 10:30am ONLY, and either cereal or a waffles that you POUR your own batter. The grout had mold on it in the bathroom, the bathroom window had a broken hinge, and thw bathtub lining in the bottomnof thw tub was peeling up.
This hotel aka homeless shelter, shouldn't HAVE to have these things brought to your attention because YOUR STAFF should address these things. Thanks for robbing us of our hard earned money Lorraine Hotel......i will NEVER stay with your joke of a hotel and will let EVERYONE i know not to spend a dime with your jokers.
In closing, your Hotel is GARBAGE and a motel 6 would've been better. You should be ashamed of yourselves and condemned.

Dear guest, first and foremost, please keep in mind that the price you paid for your stay was due to your coming during one of the most expensive weeks of the year. You can see for yourself that, most of the time, our prices reflect our 2 and 1/2 star rating. If our rate was so high during that week in December it's because any other hotel in town was even more expensive, as we remain one of the most affordable places in South Beach. Secondly, our breakfast consists of cereal AND waffles and, unless you stay in an establishment with a restaurant (probably 4 or 5 stars) you will be expected to pour your own batter to make the waffles.
Maintenance issues, old building, we accept that, but we are far from being a homeless shelter. We didn't rob you of your hard earned money. Every comment here on this very same page tell you a bit about the pros and cons of our hotel. No surprises. In closing, we would like to inform you that we are glad that you decided not to ever return because, as we mostly host families with young children, we wouldn't want your rudeness and impolite vocabulary to make them feel uncomfortable.
