I've booked 2 nights in this hotel after reading the very good reviews on Tripadvisor. I have to say that overall I have been disappointed with my stay at the Riviere hotel.
On the bright side :
- The hotel is being renovated, it is very beautiful from the outside, and the rooms were also very nice looking.
- The rate offered is very good for the rooms and the location.
- Staff is helpful and you can easily communicate by e-mail with them.
- You have a fridge and a microwave in the room : very convenient.
But, when walking barefoot in the room we just checked-in, It felt like there was still sand on the floor, though the room had been clean. The pillows in the room had a strange smell, I wouldn't say mold but definitely damp. And there was no window in the room.
The wifi was random, the first night it worked perfectly but the second night it didn't work at all. They were renovating the hotel lobby so I hope the wifi problem has to do with this. Though, in this case, they could have informed us.
But what most bothered me is that basically I really had two bad nights because of the noise. It was not the noise coming from the street, you don't really hear anything, but noise made by the other guests. The first night, they came back at 2:15AM (most probably drunk) and they were yelling, laughing out loud and clapping first in the hallway and then in their room. We were a party of four, and they woke up the four of us. And even when they were in their room, the noise level was loud enough for us not to sleep. I think the walls are thin, and the door is not very efficient (as you have a lot of light coming in from the hallway, the noise comes in too). Unfortunately, the lobby closes at 2:00AM so I couldn't complain to anyone. At 4:00AM during the same night, the alarm clock rang. Of course, I didn't set it, so I guess it was the previous guest. I think housekeeping should check for this kind of thing. Finally around 8:00AM we were woken up again by two people speaking loudly in spanish in the hallway. So the first night was just horrible.
On the second night, we heard the guests next door leaving around 00:30AM and coming back at 3:30AM again making lots of noise, this time before leaving they did a bit of karaoke in the room as we could hear the music loud and them singing. "Fortunately", they went to bed shortly after coming back.
My stay was completely ruined by the noise made by the guest next door. I thought of grading 2/5 but overall, I would say that the hotel is nice and has a good value for the price paid, and I hadn't the chance to discuss my problem with management (staff seemed to be constantly busy with the renovation and when I checked-out, the employee did not ask how was my stay).
If you have the chance to have normal and respectful guests next door, you can actually have a good stay here.
