We looked at the reviews of this hotel prior to making our reservations. We were a little apprehensive, but decided to book anyway. We are long-time Starwood Gold members and have stayed at many other Starwood hotels (Westin, W, Sheraton, St Regis, etc) around the world. If I had to rate this hotel, I would give it a C-. The lobby, beach and boardwalk were great! Our room was okay ... mostly clean and seemed recently painted. The bathroom could have been cleaner (mold in the shower area). We had to call hotel maintenance since two of the three bathroom lights were burnt out. The pool did not seem heated, but the hotel did have a hot tub. The elevators are old and painfully slow. The true South Beach area was approximately a $10 one way, taxi ride (2 miles). When staying at the hotel remember that parking is $18 per day. A chair on the beach will run you $10 per day and if you need an umbrella, that will be an addition $10 per day. Pool chairs are free, but there aren't enough of them for all guests. Note: There is currently major renovation happening to the building next door. If you are hoping to sleep in or relax quietly by the pool, you might be out of luck. Here is a BIG TIP ... the Tiki Hut by the hot tub is actually run by the hotel next door (Holiday Inn). Do not order food from this place! It is awful, expensive and very slow. We heard many guests complaining. Drinks are okay. Order take-out food from the Sheraton restaurant.

If you are getting a really good room rate, then stay at this Sheraton hotel. If not, spend your money some place else!

Having read some very negative reviews about this hotel a few days before we arrived I was quite nervous about our 3 night stay. However we were very happy with all aspects. Check in after our 10 hour flight from the UK and 2.5 hrs getting through immigration was quick and painless, the lifts were fine, the room 1001 on floor 10 (just a standard room) was great, 2 extremely comfy double beds and when I couldn't fanthom out the hairdryer someone was up within 8 mins. The buffet breakfast at $13 plus tax and tip was good value for money and we also had dinner in the hotel for a couple of nights which again was very nice. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and service was quick. The outdoor pool area and gardens are nice and these lead out to the boardwalk which makes for a very nice 45 min walk down to South Beach. The location of the hotel isn't great if you are there for more than 3 days and want to travel independantly but we had booked a tour through Miami Nice tours which picked us up at the hotel which was convenient and it was about $25 taxi fare to the Bayside market place.
All in all very satisfied with the 3 nights stay

“Four Points, too expensive for the service”

We stayed in the hotel for a week and for the money we spent they didn't met the expectations.
The lobby is impressive and the staff is OK, the first catch is the valet parking, the garage is located in front of the property and the price for the valet is an absurd.
The room were Ok but if is located in the back part looking Collins Avenue the noise make almost impossible, even at high ninth floor.
The walls seems made of paper we can hear every whisper of the neighbours.
The best part is the people at the cafe, very friendly. the beach and the boardwalk is amazing.

A disaster from the start and only got worse! Having stayed in a beautiful and well run Four Points in Savannah, Georgia the night before we were looking forward to 2 nights on Miami Beach near SoBe. HA!

A totally disinterested and incompetent desk clerk ignored my proffered "e-mailed confirmation" sheet the hotel had sent me, and took nearly a 1/2 hour of one finger typing on her keyboard to give us, with no prior warning or explanation of a change, a room with two double beds and not the king bed we had reserved a month before. Immediately returning to the desk an equally rude supervisor told us they had no more Kings and they had "upgraded" us to the ocean-front double as compensation. I informed her that we had reserved a "ocean front" king-room in the first place as our ignored confirmation sheet clearly showed (take yours with you!!).

Despite denials to the contrary they DID have an ocean front king-room and another 20 minutes or so we moved our own luggage to it. We found that the rusted, dirty, partially jammed door to the balcony we shared with the room nextdoor could not be locked due to the rusted condition of the lock. Back to the desk again in search of a oceanfront king-room with a door that could be locked. They finally found us ANOTHER ocean-front king room, this time with no balcony, but with numerous and very artistic cigarette burn holes in the carpet (so much for their "smoke free facility").

The room was small and overwhelmed by the king bed. It had a tiny, cramped, poorly renovated bathroom with a vanity so low that it just barely reached my knees (I am 5'8" tall). There was toilet tissue floating in the toilet, and hair in the tub. The room's color "scheme" was obviously predicated upon what paint was on sale. The TV was small, old and essentially obsolete (soon will be when analog broadcasting ends). Likely purchased at a yard sale!

There were only three small, creaky, dirty elevators all full of disgruntled guests who had waited 20 minutes for one to finally stop. One of them was marked and designated as the "Staff/Service" elevator, but the surly, unfriendly maids and bellboys hogged any one they could get, with no apologies about it. By evening of the first day one of the "guest" elevators was "Out of Order", never to be fixed during the remainder of our stay. Oh, must admit the outdoor pool was nice, and access to the beach and boardwalk was excellent.

Do not be fooled by the magnificent lobby! Obviously ALL the money Sheraton spent on "refurbishing" this hotel was spent on the marble floors, elaborate chandeliers and furniture in the lobby. Once above the lobby, abandon all hope and welcome back to the Motel 6 (probably better!) of the 1970s.

If you don't believe me....stay there.....and remember, I told you so!

My husband and I planned a cruise to the Bahamas for our 1st wedding anniversary. We chose to fly in two days prior, and stay in the Miami area. We booked an ocean view room, and were not disappointed. The staff was very friendly, and did everything they could to find us a room with a balcony upon check in, but there were none available. Our room was absolutely beautiful. The view was gorgeous, the room was clean and comfortable. We loved the access to the boardwalk and the beach. The pool area is also very nice. Our only complaint, was the location. Though the hotel is beautiful, it is located about 30 blocks from South Beach. There are no restaurants nearby, except for the restaurant located in the hotel. The taxi rides can add up, and while we tried to use the transit system, we found the buses to be very unreliable. We were told they run every 15-30 minutes, but ended up waiting over an hour. We would definetely stay here again, but would rent a car in order to save on transportation.
