A disaster from the start and only got worse! Having stayed in a beautiful and well run Four Points in Savannah, Georgia the night before we were looking forward to 2 nights on Miami Beach near SoBe. HA!
A totally disinterested and incompetent desk clerk ignored my proffered "e-mailed confirmation" sheet the hotel had sent me, and took nearly a 1/2 hour of one finger typing on her keyboard to give us, with no prior warning or explanation of a change, a room with two double beds and not the king bed we had reserved a month before. Immediately returning to the desk an equally rude supervisor told us they had no more Kings and they had "upgraded" us to the ocean-front double as compensation. I informed her that we had reserved a "ocean front" king-room in the first place as our ignored confirmation sheet clearly showed (take yours with you!!).
Despite denials to the contrary they DID have an ocean front king-room and another 20 minutes or so we moved our own luggage to it. We found that the rusted, dirty, partially jammed door to the balcony we shared with the room nextdoor could not be locked due to the rusted condition of the lock. Back to the desk again in search of a oceanfront king-room with a door that could be locked. They finally found us ANOTHER ocean-front king room, this time with no balcony, but with numerous and very artistic cigarette burn holes in the carpet (so much for their "smoke free facility").
The room was small and overwhelmed by the king bed. It had a tiny, cramped, poorly renovated bathroom with a vanity so low that it just barely reached my knees (I am 5'8" tall). There was toilet tissue floating in the toilet, and hair in the tub. The room's color "scheme" was obviously predicated upon what paint was on sale. The TV was small, old and essentially obsolete (soon will be when analog broadcasting ends). Likely purchased at a yard sale!
There were only three small, creaky, dirty elevators all full of disgruntled guests who had waited 20 minutes for one to finally stop. One of them was marked and designated as the "Staff/Service" elevator, but the surly, unfriendly maids and bellboys hogged any one they could get, with no apologies about it. By evening of the first day one of the "guest" elevators was "Out of Order", never to be fixed during the remainder of our stay. Oh, must admit the outdoor pool was nice, and access to the beach and boardwalk was excellent.
Do not be fooled by the magnificent lobby! Obviously ALL the money Sheraton spent on "refurbishing" this hotel was spent on the marble floors, elaborate chandeliers and furniture in the lobby. Once above the lobby, abandon all hope and welcome back to the Motel 6 (probably better!) of the 1970s.
If you don't believe me....stay there.....and remember, I told you so!
