“Great small hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014 via mobile

If you are looking for a small friendly hotel in a great South Beach location, this is the place. Great beach access, with a lovely pool and ocean view. We looked a several others hotels before booking, and made the right choice! Dale, Vinnie and Amanda provided great beach service (not cheap!) and Chris was very nice at the pool. Room 237 has a great balcony with ocean view - if you don't want to get wet you can spend your day there!

fsg,

What a great review; thank you so much! We think that you made the right choice too. Isn't room 237 just perfect? It has such a great view and the balcony is just so relaxing. I'll make sure that Dale, Vinnie, Amanda, and Chris know what nice things you had to say about them. Come back to see us soon!

We really enjoyed the surfcomber. We felt like it was a great value! The location was fantastic right next to some of the more expensive hotels. The pool scene was a little more low key but we were able to hop to the SLS and the Delano for some cocktails and a pool party. It was the little things that made our stay so fantastic...the free bikes that we were able to take and ride around, the juice bar for fresh juices, the complementary italian ices and wine hour. The guys by the pool truly gave us some great recommendations!

Melinda H,

I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed our hotel amenities! It sounds like you were able to take advantage of all the great things that we have to offer. I love taking an occasional bike ride down the board walk, it's just sop relaxing! I think wine hour is my favorite part of every work day. I get to meet so many different people from around the world. Can't wait for you and your girlfriends to come and visit us again soon!

The Staff is EXCELLENT!. From the minute you drive up (Monty) to check-in to bell service. I have to call out our bellman (Dorgis) who we were fortunate to have with both check-in and checkout. His hospitality, outgoing personality and knowledge helped us have a memorable experience in South Beach. Location is perfect and would easily go back anytime when going to South Beach.

Room Tip: We had a first floor room next to adjacent hotel's pool food service area which was a bit noisy...

What an amazing review! Thank you so much for those wonderful comments. It makes me so happy to hear that you had such a great time while visiting us. Aren't Monty and Dorgis the greatest? Dorgis really does know so much about the area, he should be a Miami Beach tour guide! Sorry about the noise coming from the courtyard. The next time that you come visit we'll try and get you on a higher floor. Looking forward to welcoming you back!

The hotel is relatively small, height-wise, just 3 stories. Thus does not offer the chance for many "sea view" rooms. I would estimate that about half the rooms have a "view" directly to the 2m distant hotel on the left and right. Another half to a very narrow courtyard and a handful probably with a sea view. The rooms are very small even for South Beach Standards, to be honest even for NY standards. The bathroom was the smallest I have ever seen in any hotel (even compared to London standards). The hallways to the rooms are dark and musty. The finishing in the rooms is not perfect, neither is the oustside of the hotel around the pool, but nice enough for the location. There are some better alternatives close enough to give the property a 5-point rating (e.g. Sense Beach House).

On the upside: The design of the rooms is very modern, the bed is perfectly cosy. The breakfast is great as is the dinner. The cocktails at the Social Hour are perfect, some of the best we had in Miami. Service is ok for US standards. The beach is just a short walk away and yes the resort fee does not include the sunshades, but hey it's Miami...

Room Tip: Insist on a beach view or courtyard room, otherwise you really have the next hotel right in front of...

This hotel is a calm oasis in the middle of busy South Beach. I loved the quirky décor as it gave the hotel personality. The artwork, sculptures and furniture were all unique and complimented the art deco history of the building.

The rooms are on the small side but were immaculate, attractive, quiet and comfortable.

We had requested adjoining rooms as we were travelling with 3 children - one of whom is only 5. Had we been told upon booking that the hotel does not have adjoining rooms we would have booked elsewhere. It was not ideal that our 3 children were in a room, which although next door, was not accessible to ours except via the public corridor.

The complimentary breakfast also left us under-whelmed. The muffin and fruit (ie melon) was not exactly satisfying.

However the staff were courteous and helpful and the hotel's location is excellent - right on South Beach and an easy walk to the shopping on Lincoln Road.

The hotel is hip and modern but more importantly, warm and welcoming due to their outstanding staff. The common areas are designed with originality and care and provide an inviting entrée to their fabulous pool area and beach entrance. The rooms are a bit small but they were working with an existing structure so that is to be expected. The rare hotel I would recommend both to my snobbish as well as down to earth friends.
