“Great smaller hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013 via mobile

Really enjoyed our stay at the Surfcomber - 5 nights in a balcony ocean King room.

Well serviced, great location, nice pool and beach access, pleasant happy hour, friendly and helpful staff.

Would I stay again? In a heartbeat.

We stayed for five nights in late April and early May. The location is great to explore from 24th Street to 14th Street on foot and Downtown and the airport are a short cab ride away. Shopping is handy in Lincoln Road and the nearby area includes numerous quality restaurants and bars. The staff is helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable. The restaurant offers good quality dishes and the bar has a great menu. The pool area offers cosy corners to chill and the beach access is conveniently located right behind the pool. The hotel's beach facilities are also very nice. Make sure you get to know about and make the most of the resort facilities once you check in.

Room Tip: King Deluxe very nice for a couple, very quiet on second floor

The hotel is fine, nothing spectacular. The location of The Surfcomber is perfect - near Lincoln Street, big hotels, dining, and restaurants. The room is decent, but I was expecting more from our room and the hotel. The bathroom can only fit 1 person at a time - it is tiny. We paid $345/night incl. taxes, which is not cheap IMO. I would have paid more and stayed at the SLS or Delano.

The crowd for the most part is younger (though I've seen some families here).

The pool is fine, and I wouldn't recommend a first level cabana unless you want to sit in a cement box with no sunshine.

The service is great though - the beach attendants are very friendly, and Clayton and Valerie were helpful. They let us have an extended check out which was nice since we had a late afternoon flight home.

I guess this review is also a bit skewed because we had just come from the Acqualina in Sunny Isles which was extraordinary and elegant.

I think if you're looking for a basic room with a great location, this is a good choice. If you're looking for a bit more luxury, I would go somewhere else.

Thank you for your visit to Surfcomber. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I am sorry to hear that we were just 'fine'. We strive for incredible, excellent, amazing, and spectacular.

Thank you for pointing out great service; Clayton is new to our team and is already making guest's very happy. I'm happy him and Valerie took great care of you. We really hope you give us another chance to turn that fine into something more spectacular!

Kind regards,

Nick

The Surfcomber is not the biggest or tallest hotel on South Beach, but it must be one of the best. And not just because the location is just perfect, but the atmosphere is just....warm.
We stayed there for a week in May 2013, and this was our first visit to the hotel. The reason we booked here was that we walked by while staying at a different hotel, and figured we'd have a look inside. We were met by Luz at the front desk, and she was explaning about the hotel and asked us if we wanted to have a look at one of their rooms in case we wanted to stay there. So we did, and next day we came by to book it for a week.
All the staff we met during our stay were equally friendly as Luz. We stayed by the pool quite a bit, and the guys at the pool (thanks Jonathan and Chris) were always great to us. I liked the fact that they also had icecold water with fruits available for the guests by the pool. The pool area itself is very nice - only downside was at times pretty loud music coming from the SLS next door. But that's not the Surfcomber's fault.

Our room was tidy and clean - not the biggest hotel room, but everything you needed. Bed was comfy!

Every evening the do a wine-tasting at the hotel, and that was good fun. Chris (think he's the hotel manager) was around chatting, serving wine and just being really friendly. We truly felt that he enjoyed making the guests feel really welcome and appreciated!

They also arranged various other activities like yoga on the beach, art deco walks and more...

All the practical things with check-in and check-out was swift and easy. The doormen were equally friendly as the rest of the staff we met - a big thanks to Brian for being so nice to us when we checked out.

I only had breakfast at the restaurant a couple of times, and that was fine.

If there was anything to ask for in regards of improvement, I'd say that it would be great to see the gym expanded a little. Perhaps an excercise ball or two. Or even a larger room dedicated to the gym....

All in all I think that the good people that work at the Surfcomber do a fantastic job to make guests feel very welcome and wish to return. I know I'll be back to this hotel.

Wow - what a terrific review! Thank you very much for taking the time to share your detailed experience. Chris will be happy to hear about the promotion you gave him to hotel manager, and the rest of the team you mentioned will be bragging to their colleagues about the great name drops! We are very fortunate to have a great team who enjoys taking care of our guests as much as they enjoy staying here.

We really look foward to welcoming you back soon!

This hotel was amazing! It is gorgeous, clean, well kept, great location but most importantly the people are outstanding! Every single person greets you with a smile and a hello. Ryan at the reception desk greeted me with a big smile, answered all my questions, and made me feel welcome. The doormen will open the doors for you and run to get a cab open the cab door and close it for you. Pool boys Jonathan, Eric and Marco were amazing! Very friendly set up our towels brought us water and chatted with us. I would definitely recommend this hotel great service for a reasonable price.

My girlfriend and I spent a long weekend at the Surfcomber this past Friday and checking out on Monday. Our stay could not have been any better. From the minute we arrived Late Monday morning, we were able to check in early, as our room was ready for us. Your front desk staff, greeters, pool side attendants were absolutely fantastic to deal with and chat with. We did not want to leave last night and will definitely stay at the Surfcomber again next time we visit South Beach. It was a true pleasure meeting all of your employees. Regards, Mary Higgins and John Weeks

Check my October 2012 review for more details but we came back for the excellent service and location. Once again, the Surfcomber did not disappoint. My wife, daughter and I will always pick the Surfcomber for future visits to South Beach.

Room Tip: Get a courtyard room if you want a quieter room.
