I have lived in Miami 30+ years and have never been pleased by a hotel on Miami Beach and have refused to ever recommend one to family/friends. This time I had a good 24 hour experience and feel comfortable referring others to this location.
As with all art deco era hotels the rooms are small and the bathrooms tiny. The rooms on the exterior north/south of this hotel face the walls of other hotels. If you do not want to look at walls, book a courtyard or ocean view room. The rooms are all comfortably furnished and clean.
There are wonderful public spaces to make up for the small rooms. There is a patio/porch out front, a nice reception lounge area, a few chairs in the courtyard, and plenty of space around the pool, plus pool cabanas for rent and beach chairs.
The staff was friendly and helpful in every way. Valet parking is difficult, but our car came in a reasonable amount of time. My rule if you want to avoid noise and an overwhelmed staff is to avoid all holidays and special events and even week ends for a pleasant stay on SoBe.
The restaurant has a nice ambiance offering indoor and outdoor seating. The food is hit and miss. For example - eggs benedict were perfect, but the diced potatoes were awful. For dinner the rock fried shrimp lettuce cups and BBQ pork ribs were wonderful, but the fried rice was drowned in soy sauce and the satay chicken was off. Drinks were fabulous!
The location is convenient to everything: Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road and destinations north as well, via the boardwalk (which is a brick sidewalk much of the way). From here you can walk to shopping, dining, and movies
