“Great Property on the Beach”

We just came back from the Surfcomber where we spent five nights. It was spring break and really crowded. The pool staff always seemed to find us chairs, and we didnt have a problem getting chairs at the beach as well. Food service at the pool was really slow, but I think that was a result of the spring break crowds. Walking to the beach was easy. It is close to all restaurants and Lincoln Road. Staff was great. You can tell it was was an old motel that they refurbished. They had very nice furnishings and a great bed. We had two queen rooms and they were adequate size. It was our first time in South Beach, so I can't compare it to other SoBe properties.

All in all, it was a great experience at the hotel. Not sure, however, that I would bring my kids back to SoBe for spring break. There are other more family friendly places to go for spring break. The focus is definitely on the clubs and nightlife.

I will start with the good news first. The bedding was very comfortable and luxurious and the room had windows on 2 sides. However, this is not the place to stay if you like a strong, hot shower; water was a gentle sprinkle and in the morning when lots of people are using the showers it is difficult to get the temperature up. Also, room key cards constantly desensitize even when not stored by a cell phone or other cards. About twice a day for my entire stay I get to my room, be unable to enter, have to wait for the elevator and then wait in line for a new or remagnetized card. The staff offers sincere apologies but there is absolutely nothing they can do. Windows look like they have not been cleaned for some time. No refrigerator or microwave. Chairs by the pool and beach run short; apparently there is some sort of reservation process for those in the know but otherwise don't count on a seat. And once you do get a seat you constantly have to tell staff that you are returning to it when you get up, or it will be turned over. Staff is respectful but this is not a $500 + experience.

The friendly staff is the best thing about this hotel, closely followed by the pool. The staff really go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need - from being greeted and helped with bags at door, through check-in, and during your stay. As a small example of the "magic" - my daughter admired the goldfish swimming at the front desk - and the staff member had a goldfish in a beautiful bowl sent up to the room.

The pool is heated and very nice. Kids from 16 to 9 loved the pool as did the parents. The beach is a short walk from pool - and also very nice.

Hotel is centrally located - easy walk to nightlife - but not too close that clubs will keep you up to 2AM. Rooms are on small side, but nicely decorated.

As other reviewers have pointed out - always call hotel and ask about events during your stay. We were lucky to have just missed the beach party held at the hotel. A few days earlier and we would have had a different experience.

Going in you need to realize the rooms are not the best. The bathrooms are tiny, no hooks to hang anything, the drawers kept opening on their own, and our view was of a brick wall. We had 2 adults and 2 children and we were cramped. But this is South Beach and because the weather cooperated with us we spent minimal time in the room.

The location is fabulous as you are close enough to walk to everything without the crowds of Ocean Blvd. You do not need to rent a car or even spend money on taxis to get around. The property is on the ocean and the hotel does a nice beach service (drinks, towels, chairs, umbrellas).

The best part of the hotel is the pool. While not extremely big or fancy, the service was awesome with a special shout out going to Chris and Marie. They truly went above and beyond and helped create a great vibe at the pool. The music was cool, laid back, and not too loud. Because it was spring break I was expecting wet t shirt contests and drunken 20 year olds. Instead it was a good mix of young families, families with tweeners/teenagers, foreign travelers, and singles. The wine hour is fabulous and sets a great tone.

Overall I would definitely go back to this well managed establishment with the realization that the room is just for sleeping.

We had a great 4 day stay, and the entire staff was attentive and friendly. From the front desk, to the guys out by the pool, everyone was very helpful and genuinely interested in our well being. We arrived early due to the flight schedules, and our room was not ready. That was expected. We found a sunny spot to rest and wait. A very nice young man who was doing some cleaning noticed us and asked if there was anything he could do. We told him we were just waiting on check in time. He asked our names and offered to go check on the status for us. This was certainly not his job or department, but it was a great example of the kind of service we experienced everyday at the surfcomber. We look forward to visiting again for sure!!

I've been staying for 4 days at the Kimpton surfcomber and I must say it was an exceptional stay. The stay was excellent and so are the staff, in the end I was almost sorry to leave.Upon arriving I found myself in a valley of smiles from the very first person I met Chris( guest service manager), who remembered our names after only seeing him once. He explained everything I had available and gave me a card for the beach as well as a card for dinning.Entering the room, it was clean and quiet (couldn't hear a noise). The bathroom is also very clean. The bed was one thing that if I could take him home, I would have done. Hard in the right places and comfortable....Very rich and tasty breakfast, I love scrambled eggs,and I found the best around. Chocolate Cake also were fantastic. With each breakfast I became more spoiled.Which brings me to in room dinning, throughout our Ryan was very helpful, quick with orders and very respectful.
These are the things that made me enjoy my stay at this hotel, but my warmest congratulations to the hotel for their choice of personnel. They know how to really make you feel at home, and if you need anything it is like asking a family member. Congratulations from the heart, you were fantastic.

I think this property has potential. Unfortunately, for a traveler NOT interested in the weeklong music festival this is the worst place to be for a vacation. We made impromptu reservations via the Kimpton website mid-day on the 24th for arrival that night. There was no warning about what we were getting ourselves into. When we checked in we were told there was a party but everything would be back in order by 10:00 on the morning of the 25th. HA! There were 50+ workers around the pool cleaning everything and dismantling stages, bars, etc. The place looked like a hurricane hit with debris, "fluids", and other unmentionables everywhere. It looked like a cross between hurricane damage, frat party, and construction site. Guests could not use pool, restaurant or get proper food/drink service from the beach attendant until late the 26th (at the earliest). Guests were forced to walk 4 properties down to use another hotel pool. I am sure the hotel made plenty of money in music week and did not care about the guests arriving AFTER the event. However, it was truly unacceptable to not be forewarned AND for them to put their staff in the position to be face so many unhappy guests who had paid an considerable amount for rooms at a property they could not use.
