“Basic but awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2012

One of the best Hotel in Miami Beach, not only for the place (fantastic), not only for the position (on the beach), not only for the restaurant (really good) BUT especially for the people who work there and make all this possible. Especially the blonde good looking front desk manager Michelle, one of the nicest person in the world!

Room Tip: All are new, there are not so big but you have everything you need

I'll take that, thank you.
We really aren't trying to recreate the wheel.
We are simply providing the products & service that anyone should expect on their vacation, business trip, get away or night out on the town. We do try a bit harder then most.
thx again

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2012

I was initially concerned about noise from construction next door and the festivities on Collins. Two of my girlfriends and I traveled from Chicago to Miami to celebrated the holiday wkend. We spent 4 nights at the Surfcomber. I was pleasantly surprised by the calm and relaxing atmosphere in the hotel and have few complaints. It's a cozy get away in the midst of SoBe.

Pros

-Location: We were 10-15 min walk away from nightclubs: Cameo, Mansion, Dream, and a host of boutiques and restaurants. I'm glad I didn't waste money renting a car. I got great exercise exploring Collins and Washington Ave.

-Front desk staff: I am a customer service hag- finding little things to complain about or find that are out of order. I was happy that the front desk employees weren't flustered by the volume of guests and confidently and swiftly handled my questions and requests. Ben, on the midnight crew is a riot. Lots of laughs!

-Lantao: The breakfast is awesome and an treasure to have after a long night of clubbing. The extra $1 fee is worth it. The orange juice is ...dare I say it, the best we have ever tasted. The fresh fruit is good too. I had the chicken and waffles. The plating was a perfect 10, so were my waffles, but my chicken was a bit dry. On our last day Carol, our waitress both times we ate there, gave us big hugs. She's a doll and has great personality.

-Pool area: Pool staff is very attentive to the high volume of guests that wkend. Pool attendants frequently came around serving frozen grapes during the day. The line moved quickly to serve the complimentary wine hour from 5-6pm. It's great, the pool is 24hrs and heated at night; but it was too cold for liking after hours. Don't miss out on free booze if that's your thing at wine hour.

There is a gate that leads out on the beach. The view is nice. Beach amenities aren't included with your room (chairs, umbrellas, beach beds). Multiple people were in our group, splitting the cost of the $40 beach bed w/ umbrella all day wasn't bad.

-Activities: At the front desk there is a calendar of day time/afternoon events. I suggest everyone take a glance and participate in one or two. Yoga on the beach or paddle boarding on the ocean is cool thing to scratch off the bucket list; plus, it's FREE!

- Security:
Memorial Day wkend gets a bad wrap in Miami because of the "urban" crowd. After that n naked cannibal had a bad trip after taking those bath salts, I appreciated the friendly security guards frequent checks of the lobby, pool area at night. Often, we were warned about going out alone and being safe.

Cons:

- Room accommodations: I'm glad it was only 3 not 4 people in our double room. We often bumped into each other as we got dressed to go out on the town. The shower does not have a curtain but a half glass door. Often the bathroom floor got soaked.

- House keeping staff: They were in a hurry to do nothing. Often dirty towels and trash was still left in the bins. Our second night we placed all the towels in a piled around the trash bins in the middle of the floor to ensure they would be taken care of by time we returned.

- Bathroom renovation in lobby: Often we wanted to run to use the restroom but the bathroom is under construction. The only bathroom on that floor is out by the pool. So going all the way back up to our room was inconvenient.

TIP: If you miss breakfast, across the street at Maxine's Bistro & Bar have great mimosas and menu!

Room Tip: Courtyard views are very quiet.

My daughters and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Surfcomber for 2 nights. What a fantastic experience, the wonderful friendly professional reception staff, the hotel itself, seriously I have stayed at the Westin Kuala Lumpur, Westin Langkawi and Sheraton Hong Kong to name a few high end hotels, and felt this experience at Surfcomber was up there with the "best". The pool area and the band playing was so relaxing and inviting. The surprise of the complimentary wine hour. Location is perfect right on the beach. The staff were so pleasant, we were super impressed with it all. Would definitely stay here again and at other Kimpton Hotels and definitely recommend staying here.

i just stayed for business with the Surfcomber and had an excellent experience. the renovated Art Deco Hotel has a very cool vibe with a lounge -relaxed feel ... nice artistic touches ... cool bar nicely done modern clean rooms .... but above all a warm inviting staff.... from Araldo the Concierge who hooked us up with amazing reservations at Quinn's,and Prime Italian not to mention treats in the room, to Brian the Bellman to Luke at the bar mixing some wild cocktails. Chris and the girls at the front desk were also wonderful!!!

I love the Kimpton Hotels for their unique and boutique hotels. We stayed for two days on my birthday weekend and the staff had ballons, card and champagne in our room. We rented a car from the airport but didn't need it because of the location, next time we'll catch the shuttle. The hotel is centrally located to shops and restaurants. The staff is always friendly. The lobby is swanky and adorable, but we found the hallway to be dark, it can use a brighter color. I will definetely come back.

This hotel is just ok...not amazing neither bad. Good points: the room was clean and nice; the ladies in the reception are very nice, there was good music in the hall, and it is cheaper than many other hotels in Miami. Bad points: there is no breakfast, and they remove the coffe at 10:00...to early if you go in Miami to enjoy the nightlife; the corridors are dark and very cold....and there are horrible statues of animals all around..but still is a good choice for a cheap hotel in Miami (besides, who goes to Miami to stay in the hotel! ;) )
