Great things about this place: Light, airy, spacious rooms (all furnishings were white but the room still had a comfortable warmth about it), 2 bathrooms (excellent idea for a family), overall service was excellent, very clean, housekeepers were exceptional - on time, little touches that made the room feel special, very pleasant and responsive to requests, our ocean front view could not be any better & we loved the private balconies. Not so great things: Lots of Europeans who chain smoke- hotel is non-smoking but the breakfast patio is not- ruined our breakfast as I was recovering from a chest cold & couldn't breathe with all the cigarette smoke out there - waiter was slow & couldn't seem to get simple requests right (although we weren't happy an 18% tip was automatically added to our $22 pp buffet so where was the incentive?), I had to call & complain 2 nights because of screaming children & loud adults in the pool/hot tub areas at all hours of the night (this area was supposed to be closed at dark). The management was very responsive to the complaints but 20 mins after one group left, another would be out there screaming and shouting- the 2nd night I had to call 3 times - as late as 1am. Inconsiderate people stay at every hotel but management needs to monitor this area better. They seemed short staffed at night and there didn't seem to be any security monitoring the use of these facilities after hours. The other thing about this location is it's isolated on a hotel row of sorts - very nice area but not within walking distance of any restaurants or sites. Cab ride is about $13 to South Beach which was fine - still cheaper than renting a car & paying the $30+/night valet parking fee plus parking fees in South Beach but it would have been nice to be able to walk to some attractions. We were happy to find a Starbucks in the neighboring Eden Roc Hotel. Beach area was nice, chairs are a bit expensive as you would expect at a resort ($40 for a cabana with 2 chairs) but if you're going to be on the beach for the day it was worth it. We didn't use the pool which was completely shaded by palm trees. Overall we liked the hotel and if we ever go back to Miami might stay here again.
