“Good Value for Miami Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2012

We stayed here for four days with our eight-year old son. It's well-priced for an upscale hotel on Miami Beach. The rooms are big, and the buffet breakfast is good value. The two pools for children get very over-crowded, but the hotel is right on the beach, which has lots of room! There is also a good gym. There are too few staff at the desk, and you need to watch out that you get the room you booked, at the price you booked. The location is a problem if you are not driving. The nearest store to buy anything is Walgreens, which is a fifteen minutes walk down Collins to 41st Street. There is however a good bus service fom outside the hotel to South Beach and downtown Miami -you pay $2 in cash. Overall, this is good value if you want to be on Miami Beach.

This hotel has a great location. It is modern, but still warm. Rooms are clean and comfortable.
It has all you need and a little bit more. 2 things aren´t good: parking is a little expencive and caothic. And you must pay for everything on the beach. Fares are enough to have free umbrellas and chairs.
All the rest wonderful!

Room Tip: always far from elevators. Sea view is a must

Just returned from our two night stay at the Grand Beach and we already want to go back!! For us, this hotel was a splurge at around $300/night for ocean front king suite. It was well worth it in our opinion. Our room wasn't quite ready as we got there around Noon, with the normal check-in time being 3:00 pm. Not a big deal, the guy at the front desk put in a request with housekeeping to get our room cleaned ASAP and said they would call once it was ready. They gave us access to the pool and beach so we could enjoy that while we waited. Had some lunch and a drink at the pool bar and then sat on the beach for about an hour when they called me to let me know the room was ready.

Walking into our room, I was like a little kid on Christmas....we walked into a gorgeous room with a breathtaking view of the ocean. True, the room is all white, so it doesn't show perfectly as I'm sure it did when it first opened - but it wasn't enough to make us not love the room. The bed was heaven....and looking over the gorgeous beach was the icing on the cake. Bathrooms were just okay - surprisingly average for such a nice hotel. But it was nice to have two. My husband and I loved having two separate areas to relax....made it seem so much larger than the typical hotel room. The closet space was awesome and it was so nice to have a good sized mini bar in the room for our snacks and drinks.

The beach was perfection. We spent as much time as possible out there enjoying the turquoise water and white sand. The pool was beautiful as well, but the seats were pretty limited and a plethera of palm trees kind of blocked the rays, so we opted to stay on the beach. We were going to try to adult pool on the 7th floor, but when we went up there in the morning, it was very windy and quite chilly.

The Sunset bar on the 7th floor has happy hour from 3-7pm - Monday night we went in right at 7 and they were obviously closing up, but the bartender still hooked us up with some delicious frozen drinks. Great service on that part!

The only thing that we wished was different about Grand Beach was its proximity to other restaurants. There isn't anything within walking distance, so we had to drive up about 15 minutes. But we found a great local Cuban place called Sazon - north on A1A just off 73rd....so yummy.

Overall - we loved the Grand Beach and didn't want to leave!

Room Tip: Splurge and go for the ocean front suite....well worth it!

The reservation system is a mess. I initially made a two night reservation and when I attempted to add an additional night it wouldn't let me even though rooms were available. I called the reservation number for help and they were also unable to change the reservation to add the additional night. They had to make a second reservation for the third night. As such, housekeeping didn't clean our room after the first two nights, because they thought we were checking out.

Although the room was large, well laid out and nicely decorated; the balconey and balconey furniture were very dirty. Looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months. Noise from the hallway and adjacent rooms could also be easily heard.

Housekeeping service is poor. They didn't replace hand towels and face cloths, because they ran out. We had to track them down to get hand towels and face cloths. They also didn't properly wash the cups and glasses, we had lipstick still on them after the room was cleaned.
When I brought the lipstick on the cups and glasses and the fact that housekeeping hadn't cleaned the room to the attention of the night manager, he said he would discuss it with the supervisors and get back to me to make an adjustment to our bill for the inconvenience. Neither occurred prior to our departure.

The restaurant staff didn't understand English very well, they brought us a desert after we said we didn't want one and didn't split the bill properly between the two parties at the table. In order to correct the bill they had to issue additional bills to each of us, so we each had two bills rather than one correct bill.

There no drink vending machines on the floors and ice machines only on even numbered floors. In the middle of the night it is very inconvenient trying to get either. In addition, the lobby shop only had Coke products, which many people like me don't drink.

Considering the nightly rate of over $400, we expected top notch accommodations and service. We didn't get either. We have stayed at other resorts on Collins Ave. for less, where the quality of the accommodations and service was far better

Room Tip: Ask for a north facing room on an upper floor, if you want a good ocean view. There are taller buil...

First of all, don't let my average rating deter you if you don't care about housekeeping issues, particularly the lack of them. Let me start with the positives. We were in a king suite on the ocean and could not ask for more in terms of view and overall ambiance. The breakfast buffet, for the cost, is excellent and better than you would expect in a hotel.

Ok, now the negatives. My husband and I are very particular about NOT having our towels, sheets, soap, etc. changed every single night. We don't do this at home so there is not sense doing it while we are are on vacation. We did everything as instructed in order to not get our linens, towels changed including putting the privacy notice on the door. When we returned in the evening, on our second night, our room had been completely cleaned with new towels, sheets, etc. We were not happy at all so we went to the front desk to complain. I don't remember who we spoke to initially but when we told him about the situation HE BLAMED US! Both my husband and I are in management and/or sales and we know this is absolutely not the way you treat your customers. Without describing blow by blow, it became a little more complicated from that point on until 2 other managers came out who handled the situation much better that the original desk person with whom we spoke.

If someone offered us a free or reduced stay at Grand Beach, we'd most likely go back. However, should we return to Miami Beach independently, we'd probably look to see if we could find another property. And final advice-don't get the lunch buffet! We were starving and its presentation was so beautiful we thought surely it would be worth the $35 per person. Amazing how deceiving looks can be!

Room Tip: Our room was relatively quiet although it helped to keep the fan on since there were kids in the nex...

We stayed at the Grand Beach for 7 nights and had a wonderful experience.every single staff member we dealt with was courteous, accomodating and friendly. the rooms are as everyone says lovely, clean and spacious. 2 bathrooms and a sitting area is a terrrific bonus in a hotel room! pools are clean, gym is nicely equipped and the beach is outside your door! parking was timely and friendly.
