“Good position for Art Deco area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

We booked the Cadet Hotel for its proximity to the Art Deco area of Miami. It was also a stone's throw from the beach and boardwalk. The rooms are on the small size but very tastefully furnished as is the foyer, bar and outdoor dining area. The staff were very helpful and we were lucky enough to get an early check-in and extended check- out to fit in with our transport arrangements. We opted to pay for the breakfasts and enjoyed both the cooked and healthy choice menus on offer. Overall, our stay was very pleasant although there seemed to be a problem with accessing hot water for a shower later in the evening.

Room Tip: Try for a room not facing the road as there seemed to be a lot of construction work going on in the...

Bottom line: Would I stay here at the Cadet Hotel again - yes I would!

Pros: Close to Lincoln Ave and the Beaches, nice clean hotel, great staff, beautiful bedrooms

Cons (in the Hotels control) - 1) The Doors to each room don't quite slam shut but when someone around you enters/leaves their room, you will definitely hear the door close/slam. The Hotel needs to have the doors close softly/gently similar to a Hotel. 2) The room I stayed in , the bathroom needed a paint job. You could also tell the tub was reglazed once and is in need of a reglaze. The grout in the shower stall, where the 2 walls meet, needed to be re-grouted as it was dirty/grimy (probably could not be cleaned at this pt. ) 3) The staff, when they were walking up and down the corridors could be much more quiet. There is no need to have their walkie talkies on full blast or talking loudly - especially on a Sunday AM!!

Other things: 1) To change the a/c, you do need to call the front desk. I did this and they were up in approx 5 min 2) there is some construction nearby which adds to the noise - it does look like the construction on one building is nearly done. 3) You are in the middle of things when staying at the Cadet! On a Fri/Sat night, you will undoubtedly heae people - especially at bar closing time.

Dear Guest,

We will like to thank you for staying with us and taking your time to review us.

It is always great to hear that our guest that visits us for the first time would like to return.

We understand that the noise from our doors might have caused a distress in your stay. Unfortunately this is an issue that is out of our hands. By code the City of Miami Beach Fire Department requires that the guest’s door close by themselves once the guest exists the room.

All of our bathrooms were built using gray grout, not white. We understand that this may not be of your liking, but this is based on taste. All of the bathrooms in the hotel all fully tiled therefore, they are not painted.

We apologize if the noise from our employees disturbed you in the morning, we will make sure to advise them so this won’t happen in the future.

It was a pleasure to have you stay with us!

Warm Regards,

Manager on Duty.

My husband and I chose this hotel based on the Trip Advisor reviews and we really liked it. We didn't have a car, so cannot comment on the parking situation, but the service was great - the staff were genuinely nice and helpful. Our room looked out on a nice inner courtyard with a lovely, large jacuzzi. We weren't affected by street noise, but were one night by tipsy guests... not the hotel's fault. The room and bathroom were very clean and tastefully decorated - it was comfortable and the whole place felt like home, more like a boutique hotel than the massive grandiose places along the beach. It is a one block walk from the beach, where you can also rent bikes, and it is just a few blocks walk from the pedestrian area on Lincoln Road, where there are lots of places to eat and shop. However, you don't even need to go that far because the best restaurant we ate at was actually IN the hotel! The Pied-a-Terre served us the most delicious Peruvian-influenced French food. The hosts, Paul and Sylvia, were so attentive and can match wines with food to perfection. The line of people waiting to get it said it all. The hotel has a really nice little outdoor seating area to have breakfast in as well. We had a great stay and would recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for room 221 (queen bed) which is not on the street and overlooks the central courtyard.

The hotel is great, they have fine attention to detail - personalised greeting card in your room as well as all the other little touches that makes a place stand out. They do need to clean the doors of the bedrooms as these were grim, but inside the room was spotless.
Parking was $30 a night in a local place, we arrived late and so took the first thing we could find.
Staff very friendly. Very near South beach and the main areas that you would want to see.

Stayed at the Cadet a few years ago and thought it was worth a re-visit. Didn't work out this time. Got a room at the end of the line, across the street from a major construction project, and down the street from the convention center. Endless trucks and buses of all sorts. At 7:30 am construction workers start shouting the work orders. This continues till 4:30. My bad, I should have checked the satellite. Had to go to the lobby for WiFi. WiFi virtually non-functional in room. Desk clerk said she hadn't heard that one before and would make a note for the manager. Luke warm water. AC not adjustable by room occupant, felt like a meat locker. Adjusted temperature by opening and closing the window. Wrong size and shape bedside table will gouge your leg every time unless you move it out of the way (see photo). Didn't watch much TV, but if you want a good buzz select channel 13. Asked the desk clerk if the room we were in was the worst in the hotel. She didn't answer. We decided to stay in place. Parking is $25/day down the street. That might be something else to consider. Altogether, I guess it was just average.

My husband and I stayed at the Cadet for four nights. We chose it because internet reviews listed it as quiet. It's true. There were no late night parties or drunken guest coming home in the middle of the night. However, the hotel is right at the corner of a busy thoroughfare and municipal bus route. At the time of our stay, there was also construction going on across the street. All of this was very audible throughout the night and early in the morning, including Saturdays.
Rooms are small. The first one we were shown literally consisted of a king side bed with just enough space to walk around it. The second one had two twin beds with wobbly mattresses and IKEA style furniture. We chose that one as the lesser of two evils.
The staff was very nice and accommodating, trying to make the best of a challenging situation. Breakfast in house is beautifully prepared but amateurishly served. All in all, you get the feel of visiting some well meaning relatives. You'd be grateful for their hospitality, if it wasn't for the $200 per night price tag.

Room Tip: There aren't any. Views are either onto an airshaft or the street.

Dear Guest,

We appreciate your comments. Essentially, your displeasure is based on taste, which also we appreciate; However, all the furniture is solid wood and custom made, so sorry if was not of your approval.

The noise on the street is in part due to our central location and the other is a temporary construction both out of our control.

FYI the price you mentioned included tax. Our regret is that you stayed 4 nights which such a discontent; have known that we would have accommodated you differently.

Again, thank you for staying with us.

This is a very nice boutique hotel with strong French influence in decors. Standard room is small (like the hotel you see in Europe), but quiet. Very good value for the money.

The only thing you need to be aware is that Cadet has no parking space. Make sure you check with the front desk before choosing where to park. I absolutely hate dishonest people and I had a very bad experience with the place I parked (addmitedly, I did not check with the hotel staff first).

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking your time to share your experience with us.

We always recommend to our guest to check with us before parking because some parking lots in the area take advantage of the tourist that are not aware of the parking rates and locations.

Our standard room is the smallest room in the hotel. We have rooms that accommodate everyone perfectly ranging from King Size beds to Superior rooms and Junior Suites.

We hope to see you back soon!
