First time in Miami. Wasn't a fan of the decor in the room but it was comfortable. AC worked good. Wish there was more counter space in the bathroom - pedestal sink. Great location. Yummy drinks at the free happy hour - strong too. I would stay again.

A fabulous hotel on Ocean Drive...right where you want to be in Miami. We stayed for 5 nights, April 11-16, 2015. We arrived about 2 hours before check in and was pleasantly surprised to find our room was ready! Our room was incredible, "Lust in Space"; it was spacious, had a huge flat screen TV, included a wet bar area, mini fridge, groovy furniture and above all was impeccably clean! We had the VIP package which included daily free breakfast buffet (scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, roasted potatoes, fruit bowls, yogurt, cold cereals and fresh breads), 2 drinks per person during happy hour 4-6pm every day and free rental of 2 beach chairs per day. I was impressed with the entire staff, everyone from the front desk to housekeeping was friendly, accommodating and made us feel like they were happy to have us there. I look forward to coming back in the future!

there are newer hotels in south beach. there are hotels that rely on hype all over south beach. but at the Pelican, its literally like family. you can't beat the location. the staff will break their necks to ensure your stay is enjoyable. its ridiculously quiet at night considering the address. the COMPLIMENTARY breakfast is hard to believe. eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt, fruit, toast, cereal, coffee, sweet rolls all laid out buffet style and always fresh and hot. the COMPLIMENTARY beach towels and chairs make going to the beach easier than, well, going to the beach. the COMPLIMENTARY happy hour is a perfect way to transition from beach time to nightlife time. notice i said COMPLIMENTARY? no hidden fees. no attitudes. FREE. the rooms are each a different theme, nice sized, and very clean. you're doing yourself a giant favor by choosing to stay here. it was hard for me to leave.

Room Tip: no room is the same, each has a different theme. each the rooms I've stayed in over time are qui...

This is the worst hotel experience I've ever had. When we arrived at the hotel we were told we would be staying in a different building down the road, a bad sign. The Pelican has 'one' room a couple doors down the road in an apartment building with dozens of other units full of people that have no association with the Pelican. It had a small kitchen with burn marks behind the stove indicating a prior kitchen fire, your very own water heater in a closet in case you want to change the water temperature, a constantly running toilet, and plain white walls so as to not distract you with anything visually interesting other than the dirt and hand prints everywhere. And the best part, a restaurant balcony immediately next to your hotel window. If you want screaming, drunk people leaning on your paper-thin windows at all hours, this is the room for you. But don't worry, if you don't like the room you can just pick up the phone and dial 0. Wait, no you can't. That won't get you someone at the Pelican. Dialing 0 gets you the front desk for the apartment building, not the Pelican. The most irritating part of all was how the guy at the Pelican kept trying to tell us how lucky we were to get this room. "It's a suite", "you get a kitchen", "other rooms are a downgrade", "you want a downgrade?", "this is a great room". It was totally obvious he was trying to force us into a sub-par room.

This room had ZERO resemblance to anything on the Pelican's website. Nothing interesting to look at. Zero effort put into making it look nice. Every other Pelican room has a photo shoot on their website. Not this one. They are too embarrassed to have anyone see it.

When we told the desk we didn't want this awful room we were given a constantly changing story. First it was we'll get you another room if you don't like this one. Then it was we would have to move you between rooms each day. Then finally it was this room is what you get. His only offer was to charge us a couple hundred dollars more each night for a penthouse. He repeatedly refused to get us a manager to talk to, saying there was no manager there all weekend. When we called our travel agent to get a refund the travel agent said there were more rooms available at the Pelican making it rather obvious the guy at the Pelican was lying to us and had zero interest in helping us.

The room was booked through Hotwire but we had a very good idea what we were getting when we booked because Hotwire winks at you and says what hotel you will probably get. We were beyond excited for months about this stay because we had a good time in the Pelican restaurant on a previous stay. This experience was the last thing we expected. Needless to say we will never be giving this hotel or its restaurant another dollar and will be telling everyone we know how awful it is. Bless Hotwire, they refunded us our payment in full and found us a hotel with infinitely more class than the Pelican.

Room Tip: Avoid room 201C, two buildings down the road, like the plague

Dear Mr. K,

I'm very sorry for your experience. Regrettably, reservations made through opaque channels featuring heavily discounted rates allow hotels to choose any type room available at the time of your arrival.

Your dates fell during the Miami Beach annual Gay Pride parade which brings thousands of visitors who are looking to celebrate from around the world a South Beach version of mardi gras.

Should your travels bring you to south beach, please reserve with us directly and provide us with the possibility to make it up to you with the exact room type of your choosing.

Thank you,
Lupe

We pulled up out front at the valet parking. You will see a cafe. You have to walk inside to get your car checked in and yourself. Very easy. We enjoyed the happy hour which is every night from 4-6pm. Two drinks person. Great bartenders. They provide beach towels and chairs. They also provide a complimentary yummy breakfast each morning. The beach is across the street. Great location. Each room has it's own theme. Ours was Peace , love. I wish they furniture to put your personal items on. Complimentary bottle water in the room. Very friendly and helpful staff. We love the art deco history. This
hotel is a gem. We are already planning to go back next spring.

Room Tip: Ask what rooms are available and pick a theme.

I have been staying at the Pelican since 1993 annually. It is by far the best boutique hotel in South Beach with an amazing staff. The rooms are great, the food is incredible, and staff even better. They always do all they can to make my stay there as comfortable as possible.

Room Tip: As for a room slightly away from the street if you wish to avoid the South Beach hoopla.
