“Lovely Hotel Marred Only By Poor Plumbing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

Had a wonderful one-night stay at this hotel. The staff was excellent and a major help in getting around South Beach and finding things to do for the night.

The only downside was that in our room the shower often became excruciatingly hot for brief periods of time - I presume when persons in other rooms flushed the toilet or used cold water.

We just returned from one of the busiest weekends in South Beach. We were greeted by some of the most wonderful, friendly staff and a surprise of an upgrade, facing the beach. Worried about being able to sleep and being in the heart of all the action on South Beach, we were pleasantly surprised that we could not hear a peep once we closed our doors. Mia, Miguel and Mentor made us feel like family and catered to our every need. We really felt at home. We loved the character of the hotel, the designers must have had a blast decorating this beautiful, eclectic hotel.
Make sure you eat every meal you can at the delicious restaurant and if you can, request to be served by the handsome Massimo and very sweet Kristina. They are some of the best by far!!

We look forward to our return, we have found our home away from home!

Dear K. Rothenberg,

On behalf of the managing team of the Pelican, thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We are delighted that the team made a difference during your stay. During the renovation phase of the hotel, sound proof windows were mounted with the idea of improving the experience of our guests.

Should your travels bring you back to South Beach, please remember your Pelican family. We look forward to your return visit.

Walk off the sidewalk across from the beautiful Miami beach and go through the relaxing open air breakfast/bar area to the back where we were greeted by the friendly check in staff.

Up the character lift and into the dark mysterious-like hallway to our room, whose theme was "Future in Aluminium". What a STUNNING room. The colours, decor, bath products, all fantastic.

The rooms are quiet, a/c works well and the room.shower were immaculately clean. They kindly offered late checkout, and the included breakfast was basic but filling. Choices of an omelette, 2 eggs on wholewheat toast anyway you want, both accompanied by roast potatoes. Drinks not included.

My only complaint, the in room safe sits on a shelf in the wardrobe that can be picked up easily. And there is no secure area at reception to leave you baggage if you want to check out and go exploring. Ours were left next to the reception desk, but sometimes the staff are in the back room, so dont leave anything valuable.

There is no direct view to the beach from the rooms, but you will want to spend most of your time outside in the balmy weather anyway.

This boutique hotel has character, in a fantastic location and is Very clean. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Thank you for your review. Know that we are working on installing new safes in all of the room. Should have this done by the end of July! We look forward to the pleasure of your return.

Enjoy the summer!

This was the most eclectic hotel I have ever had the pleasure of staying in in my entire life and I could not have been more pleased by that fact. The vibe as soon as you pull up at the valet is electric. You have to walk through the sidewalk seating to get to the check-in desk and the energy is amazing. The staff answered all my questions anytime I had them. They provide towels for the beach (which is directly across the street) and beach chairs are reserved for you. Complimentary breakfast is available for three hours each morning and they are FULL breakfasts - not that continental stuff other places provide. There is also a two hour Happy Hour each evening. The staff was ridiculously helpful and even began to recognize me and my friend whenever we came through the lobby on our way in or out, no matter the hour. We both agreed that this is a place we will come back to time and time again, without hesitation. We stayed in Room 210 - "Half-Way To Hollywood" - and it was a bit small. We went in blind, not knowing each room had it's own theme, but the staff let us peek into a few of the other rooms so next time we will be getting a bigger suite-style room. No matter, we were not there to sleep anyway, so who cares when you're in the middle of everything, right? Best location EVER!

Room Tip: Try to get on the top floor if you can, because at times I could hear the people in the room above w...

This was our second trip to Miami, and to the wonderful Pelican Hotel. The team at the Pelican always want to make your stay both pleasurable & truly memorable. We stayed on the 2nd floor in room 213, therefore away from the noise of Ocean Drive. Check-in was quick & easy, the room was always immaculately cleaned & the staff always made us feel at home. Happy Hour has to get a mention too - awesome Mojito's!!

This is my first-ever review here:

It's May 20, 2013 - just after midniite. Just checked in today after a long business trip... looking for some good times and R&R! Pleasantly surprised with an upgrade and ocean front room at check-in by the lovely front desk receptionist. Also enjoy the generous free happy hour and breakfast deals!

HOWEVER, don't count on getting any sleep here - esp. if the rooms next to yours are throwing birthday and post-bender parties. It's going to be a long couple of days... called the front desk to no avail twice just now, finally went downstairs and found it unstaffed. Then finally when someone picked up on my 3rd call, I was told to wait until midnight before he could ask the RAVERS to quiet down. It's about 12:20 AM now and nothing has been done to bring down the noise.

Realize full well this property is smack dab in the center of all the action, but I didn't realize that sleeping was not an option here after leaving the mean streets of SOBE behind after a long day. First and last time here.

Room Tip: 302 Big Bamboo had a fantastic view of the beach and Ocean Drive - very cozy and bright

Dear Mr. SwarlesBarkley,

It was our pleasure to have upgraded you to our BigBamboo Room, one of our most unique rooms with an Ocean View. You called the desk while our night auditor was checking the doors and security of the building; the security of our guests is our top priority.

On behalf of our entire team, we would like to apologize for not exceeding your expectations concerning the noise from the room next to you. The night auditor took steps to ensure that the problems with the noise was resolved but it took a bit of time to quiet the room next to you. We do everything in our power to politely ask our guests to have good bedtime etiquette.

We will be using your feedback to try to implement improvements.

Thank you

We stayed in suite 303 in May 2013. The hotel is on Ocean Ave between 8th and 9th, in the Art Deco section. The room was great, fronting Ocean Ave on the SE corner of the hotel. It is a long room (?40ft) with a sitting area on the ocean side, and continuous windows (which open). There are dual AC units in the room, one in the BR area and one in the sitting area, so the room cools down very quickly. There was a safe and a mini-refrigerator in the closet. The mattress was slightly firm, which is my personal preference. With the windows closed, there was absolutely no street-noise in the room. During our stay there, the hotel supplied us free bottled water in the room every day as well as a free breakfast (sans coffee) and a free happy hour from 4PM-6PM. The staff and management were terrific. I changed my initial reservation twice to adjust to the weather forecast, and they were very accomodating. South beach is a very nice beach. The sand is prepared every morning with a machine that reminds me of a Zamboni... so the sand is soft on top and hard underneath, making walking very easy. Ther hotel also provided free beach chair access and towels. There is a street between the hotel and the beach, but the beach is very visible. Couldn't ask for anything more. With the ocean at your fingertips, I didn't look for a pool or fitness room, but who needs it there. The parking valet is an independent operation, operating up and down Ocean Ave. It is $25 per day (in and out) and is a must there. It takes 15-20 minutes to retrieve the car. Many thanks to the staff and management.
