I recently stayed at the Pelican Hotel on Ocean Drive. This place is amazing, the location is great if you are looking to be in the centre of South Beach.
The staff were excellent. Always helpful, gave great advise when going out on an excursion.
The rooms are spotlessly clean and the food in the restaurant is excellent, varied and good value.
This is my second time staying at the Pelican and this years stay confirmed my last years experience.

Room Tip: corner room is larger.

Amongst a sea of hotels on Ocean Drive that are 'all fur coat and no knickers, The Pelican hotel is a leader in its class.

We stayed here about two years ago and there have been minor improvements in decor and they have streamlined the rooms into a much more cohesive affair without shedding the quirkiness which is what the clientele there expect (its almost indistinguishable) yet tweaked.

The service at reception is second to none, the staff couldn't have been more helpful and approachable the lady who was there for half of our stay and checked us out was an absolute star, it was like an estranged friend i had just met once again, great rapport!!

My criticisms are they need to keep a tighter reign on the maintenance of the rooms, we had stayed in three rooms during our short stay.

in the first the secure safe didn't work so we had to move into a room which was a spacious, (but unfortunately disabled friendly room) which would not have been a problem, (i don't really have a phobia of handrails) however the shower was sub par, a mere trickle in comparison to the gushing waterfalls of the other rooms and a standard that we expect (and actually part of the reason why we returned to the hotel in the first place)

After deciding to extend our stay the third room we were issued had no functioning air conditioning, because the control panel just wasn't working.. so we had resorted to using the ceiling fans, which were very cool and retro, just not very practical due to the noise....

On a final note, in comparison to the Pelican front house staff (reception and bar) the restaurant staff were at times scatty and unpredictable with the standards of service they provided, we felt because we pre booked and paid for breakfast we were somewhat overlooked during morning service. The dynamic of the place has fallen into the same category of the rest of the hotels and restaurants on Ocean drive.. the door hostess (who forgot who we were about ten times even after staying there for days) was more on the hustle for new customers at the door, passers by, even when the dining room and balcony appeared full. It was lazy and needs bringing back upto standard, maybe take some tips from the front of house staff... then all will be restored.

With all due respect The pelican is an great hotel do not be put off by this review i am merely providing constructive criticism towards a hotel which is still the best in its class, for the bourgeoisie of Miami Beach, we still had a very pleasurable stay, i just believe with service it has to be end-to-end and consistent... we want to see this hotel succeed and be the best it can be. and go from great to outstanding..

xx

Loved this hotel! Beachfront on Ocean Dr. in the heart on South Beach. Very cool vibe, art deco building with a unique, retro decor. It was not your typical, generic resort feel but full of character and beautifully designed. Everything is a little smaller as it is an original art deco building from the 1920's but the interiors are so interesting and all of the rooms have a different theme, ours was nautical with a lot of industrial elements. The wall the bed was on was covered with old canvas sails. The beds were a bit firm for our liking but everything else was great. They give you a voucher for a free cocktail at happy hour and the "people watching" on the sidewalk cafe was priceless. Service was good too, only issue was a disconnect with valet about fetching our car but it was not a big deal. Definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Our room was by the elevator and did not have a view. I did not want a front of the house room with...

The hotel staff is very friendly, the rooms are cool but small

we stayed in viva las vegas

The bathroom was good. Loved the shower

Right across from the beach and right on the strip

The breakfast at the cafe is really really good

And the hotel had free drinks for guests from 4-6 which is great!

Location - Amazing, right on Ocean Drive in between 7th and 8th Street. Right across from the beach, and you get complimentary towels and chairs on the beach by being a Pelican Hotel resident!

Hotel - First "toy" hotel, every room is of a different theme, very fun, unique concept. We had Room 213, which was the Cowboy Coral one. Being that it is a boutique hotel, it was very small, but nice too. Large flat screen TV, complimentary WiFi, free bottle of Pelligrino in the fridge. The bathroom seemed a little out dated, but it still functioned and did it's purpose. We had nice CO Bigelow products!

Entrance to the Hotel Lobby is behind the restaurant, so will need to go through the restaurant and bar to get to it.

Everyone was very nice and accomodating, I would definitely recommend the hotel for the future!

Room Tip: We go the hotel through Hotwire, it was a great deal, so might be an option to check out for booking...

The hotel has a great location. We stayed in the King suite on the front of the building (big enough for 4 people easy. If you want to get uninterrupted sleep then the front of the building is not for you. Techno music is played on the front patio 24/7. For a guys weekend at South Beach this place is in the center of Ocean Drive and definitely should be on the top of the list.

Room Tip: Suites on the front big and lots of room with view of the ocean. Other smaller rooms much smaller.
