This Hotel looks great in the pictures, that is why we booked it. We got there the place was empty and dark. The hallways had carpet that was spongy and stained. The room looked a porno gone bad, furniture stained, sat on the couch and staples were revealed. Furniture stained, A/C not working and the rooms are dark.

I called about concerns and was assured that the problems were all fixed, but if I had a problem, they would cancel me and refund all monies. I cancelled after seeing the room and still fighting to get my 1 night cancellation fee back.

Orbitz was no help either.

Don't ever stay here. I have at a hostel in France and had a better stay then this place. First off it's a welfare motel. There were people that were staying at the Marlin for extended stays, meaning they lived there. There isn't even a front desk; there is a table, a chair, and a computer. We changed rooms twice, because of the lack AC and filth in our first room. I wouldn't stay here again if they paid me. Don't do it to yourself!

On entering the hotel the carpets were filthy, bins in the room hadn’t been emptied from the previous guests, paint was peeling from the ceilings, the bathrooms hadn’t been cleaned, the beds and bedding was disgusting and to complete matters something of approximately, 1½ inches in length, silver, four legs and a tail crawled across the pillow. Once I saw that I decided that I would not be staying and promply went downstairs to check out after barely a few minutes in possibly the worst hotel this side of Pak Bang, Laos.

The mis-representation from the website and images it presents is bordering on fraudulent and hope that Orbitz amends their site accordingly.

I discussed all of the above with the receptionist at the hotel, Andrea who advised me that they had yet to receive payment from Orbitz and that the money would be left in your account to enable a refund in full.

On the back of this promise we then went and sourced and paid for alternative accommodation before returning back to the Marlin to collect our baggage only be told that they intended to charge us. This fight is continuing and Orbitz so far have not covered themselves in glory but are seeking to recover funds deducted, I am also currently going after Orbitz through AMEX on the back of a fraudulent transaction as that is what I believe I have been sold.

I made the schoolboy error of booking on the back of a personal recommendation from someone that used to stay here, albeit I later find out some years ago and not checking with Tripadvisor first.

If you are in any doubt about the awful state that this hotel is in I encourage you to contact me on my personal email address r_k_mottershead@hotmail.com and I will do everything in my power to persuade you not to stay here, check out The Impala (next door ask for Roz or Richard and see my previous reviews) or even the Strand on Ocean (ask for Julio - lovely rooms, excellent service and reasonable prices) but please for the love of Jesus H Christ DO NOT STAY HERE

This hotel is extremely dirty, outdated, and was very smelly. There was no one at the front desk to check me in, the elevator was broken (I was assigned a room on the 3rd floor) and there is no parking on site, you have to park in meters and/or in a parking lot 2 blocks away. My room had dirty wood floors, soiled bed linens, and someone else's food in the refrigerator. I did not sleep there because of the bugs that were nesting behind the head board of the bed.

Evidently this hotel was great in its time but nothing has been done to update/clean it and the pictures that you see on the web site are absolutely not updated.

The outside marquee sign was not even lit up when I got there so I did not know it was open and thought that I was booked into a closed down hotel.

Hotels.com has stated that they are taking this hotel off of their offering list so if you get this info from somewhere else, be sure to use caution when booking this hotel.

“Never Stay at Marlin !”

Do not believe any of the websites that advertise this hotel. It may have been OK 50 years ago, but it has not been cleaned or taken care of since. We never complain about hotels as our needs are pretty basic, however, this hotel was absolutely the worst hotel we've ever seen.

1) The hotel and rooms are very dirty - the floor, the bathrooms, the bed, everything. We had to go and buy large beach towels to sleep on, since the sheets and pillows (which were of different sizes) had to be covered by something in order to sleep on. The rooms were never cleaned in three days we were there. There was a constant smell of dirt and mildew.

2) The window was so dirty, you could not see out of it. It was cracked and would not close completely. This was especially a problem, since about 10 feet from the hotel, another hotel was being built and even at 7am on Sat morning, we felt like we were right in the middle of all the hammering and drilling. When asked to switch the room, we were told that all rooms are taken and were told that other rooms are in even worse shape!

3) No soap or shampoo in the rooms. When asked for a bar soap, all we were given was shower gel. We were TOLD to use it as shampoo and as a soap (since they had nothing else to offer). So we went to the nearest Walgreen and bought shampoo and soap.
