“Great stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Great for family vacations, everything is nice and clean. Great pools, one ideal for children and other one with salty water, nice beach access and truly kids friendly. Staff was great also. I wil return for sure.

Where do I start our room was not ready when promised and it still was barely clean one elevator is out of service then someone who lives here said it has been out for a year. The pool chairs are old and dirty talking about dirty the bottom of my wife's feet were black from walking around the room.
Breakfast for three buffets was $80 and cold eggs and very few choices it took an hour to bring replacement food. the poolside cafe is equally over priced under expectations. Our housekeeper said she ran out of soap to call the front desk that took and hour the toilet clogged yes your right that took an hour.
Stay away from this 1940's shipwreck. Miami has lots of better places for the same money.

Room Tip: here is my tip don't stay here period

These are tough responses to write as we respect your opinion as much as we respect all opinions shared via this and other social media outlets. Please know that the Alexander is very proud of the level of service we provide to our guests. I was really troubled to learn our team took longer than reasonable to follow up on your requests and I will make sure all your comments are being addressed
A little background for the audience: our elevator has not been out for a year. I apologize for the inconvenience we caused you and all of our guests not having one of them in order during your stay. We are experiencing serious maintenance issues with it and are making sure the repairs are done in a timely manner.
In regards to the breakfast value: we always recommend adding it at time of reservation for a very reasonable price, however we also offer a la cart option if the buffet is not to your taste.
We regret losing your business

High rise hotel is mostly privately owned condos rented out by their owners so each one is different. The owner of our condo "Meyer" is from New York. We rented Suite 909 based on other reviewers' comments. We wish someone would have mentioned that this hotel is about 4 miles from South Beach or from anything really except miles of hotels. There is not any type of restaurant/café or grocery stores within walking distance. There is only valet parking which costs tipping upon retrieval and return of your car and $15-20 in parking fees when you go to South Beach or downtown Miami. Or pay about $20 for a taxi to South Beach. The hotel is old. It had 2 elevators and one was broke our entire 9 day stay. The hotel is a high rise and we wasted about 15 minutes each time we wanted to go up/down the elevator due to one being broken. The 'waterfall' feature at the pool looks like something out of the Flintstones or the 1960's, pretty comical and needs to be torn out, very outdated. On our 2nd night we complained that the A/C unit was leaking from the ceiling outside the bathroom, the floor was soaked from the drips and the ceiling texture was bubbling and falling off onto the floor. No one ever came to fix it. The iron left rust stains on 3 pieces of our clothing and we had to go out and buy a travel iron. All table lamps did not work and the lamp shades were broken and stained, tacky. The master bedroom door was warped and would not close and the patio door made a loud screeching sound to get it to close. The 'kitchen' did not have a blender, very few utensils, no hand towels, few glasses/plates. The pans/pots were very poor quality and scratched causing the food to stick badly with no scrub device to get them clean. It was very hot and humid there and we only wanted to use the hot tub at night after the sun set; however, the hot tubs were not available for use in the evening. The beds were comfortable, the room was fairly quiet. You could see the ocean from the patio which sits on the 'side' of the hotel. Upon arrival I took off my sandals and stepped on two sticker thorns which were in the carpet. The bathroom was very outdated and had missing knobs on some of the drawers. Bring toilet paper! No maid service and they only had 4 rolls for 4 people and only 4 towels total (this is for a 9 day stay).

909 is a privately owned unit which is not part of the hotel program. I cannot comment on any of the maintenance issues in that apartment which must be addressed directly with the owner. As it comes to the valet- owner’s guests don’t pay for that service and tipping is always personal discretion. We are right up North of South beach but if you are talking about the main strip- Lincoln road- its 3 miles, less than 10 minutes away and we don’t find the need of having a shuttle since there is so much local transportation with a stop right in front of the hotel for $2 per person. Hope you will book with the hotel next time and you will be able to experience the Alexander in a different light

My step-daughter and I stayed at the Alexander in early July as a get-away before she leaves for college. From the front desk, to the concierge (thanks, Vladimir), to the valet to the housekeeping team, everyone was friendly and eager to make sure we had a great stay. The team out at the pool bar were also very accommodating and friendly. We had a junior suite (two-bedrooms, two bath, kitchen, living room) which gave us plenty of room. The room was a bit dated, but it was very clean and comfortable. The only issue was the elevator being out of service. That was frustrating, but could be worked around. The access to the beach was easy and the team renting the jet skis, umbrellas and chairs were fun and outgoing. We booked them for a 1.5 hour jet ski tour and really had fun. We'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the South side of the building to avoid construction noise

Thank you for the review! I am pleased that you and your step-daughter had a lovely time at the Alexander and so glad you found our “not so secret” concierge Vladimir during your stay. We are very proud of all our staff but he is a special guy and we are fortunate to have him on our team.
Thank you for taking the time to provide your valuable feedback.

We booked to stay with friends. Their room was very nice but ours was very jaded and quite grubby. It is clearly the luck of the draw. One of the showers did not work and the room was on the north side which was next to a noisy building site.... Do not eat in the restaurant - breakfast for 4 was £70!! On a positive the staff were friendly and responsive and our complaint that the room was poor and missed a service resulted in us not paying for the parking for the stay.

We appreciate your feedback as we take all criticism very seriously as it is very important to know what our guests think and what are the areas we need to work on improving
The Alexander offers many different types of rooms for guests. Some guests' prefer the classic look, some prefer more modern feeling. I wish we knew the unit was not up to your liking in order for us to find you another.
We pride ourselves in our personalized and instinctive service and I am happy you found the front desk responsive to your feedback.
I hope you do give us another chance and please feel free to contact me directly whenever you plan your next visit to Miami.
Regards
Mariela

We been in South Beach Miami many times with my kids, we have stay in numerous places with a great service and excellent suites, clean, renovated etc... we have stay in Fountainblue, Royal Palm and Dorchester suites etc.. this time we decide to stay for the 1st time in the Alexander all suites resort, we were traveling with my cousin and friends so we talk them into staying in the same resort to be together, so we rent 2 2 bedrooms suites, to begin with 1 of the suites wasn't ready checking was @ 4 but the suit wasn't ready until 7:15 pm, we had in total 6 kids screaming around tired and hungry, when they finally had the 2nd suite ready, one of the bathrooms was flooding in water we call the front desk they send someone 2 hrs later and all they did was throw towels in the floor, the other bathroom toilet was leaking and making a lot of noise, also we were very upset because they charge for daily cleaning they did not leave toilet paper or paper towels in the kitchen or any of the detergents for dishes, so every time that we call the front desk took at least 2 to 3 hrs to even send someone upstairs, also the beds were making a lot of noise very uncomfortable, by the way the hallway to access the pool or the beach had a horrible smell like chemicals, overall our experience was terrible :( we going to stick to the places we already been with great service and great suites.
Mr Lobo.

Dear Guest,
It is regrettable to hear about your stay and the inconveniences you experienced. Our guest's happiness is our top priority, and it's always disappointing to hear about unpleasant stays. I am sorry your check in process took so long and the fact that your requests were not addressed in a timely manner. Just a slight clarification that there is no additional charge for cleaning and from your description I believe you were taking the employee exit to the pool/beach and not the guest which is at a different level.
Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent stay with us. I am sorry to see that it rated so low, we usually receive great feedback from our guests.
We all sincerely hope that you will be willing to give us another chance

This is a great hotel just footsteps from the fantastic Miami Beach! Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen and living room. It's not a new hotel, the corridores had sort of an 80s look to them. One of the elevators didn't work (and after reading som other reviews here it seems it might have been out of order for a while), but there were two more. The woman in the reception, Linda, has certainly found the perfect job, so nice and cheerful!!

The hotel has two ocean shaped pools. For some reason one is saltwater and I have never really understood why somebody would put saltwater in a pool, especially when the ocean is twenty meters away. But there was another one, so I was happy.

The only things we really didn't like was the hotel restaurant. (It was a bit too fine dining for us, and for a hotel restaurant we thought. The vacation's most expensive dinner that really wasn't much better than any of the other dinners.) And also that the hotel charged an extra "resort fee", why not add that to the room rate from the start? This fee was supposedly for use of pools, wifi and daily newspapers.

No kids in our little group so I don't really know what kind of kid's activities they have, but didn't see any notes about anything.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback from your recent stay. We are so delighted to hear that you received such outstanding service from Linda and that this interaction set a positive tone for your entire experience at the Alexander.
Our pools are both chloride so I was a little puzzled to see your comment about the salt water pool.
We do hope we get the opportunity to serve you again. Please let me know if you would like to personally take care of your future reservation. I would welcome the opportunity
Warm Regards
Mariela
