Stayed in the tides on the weekend 14th-16th July 2006 and had a great experience in this beautiful hotel.

The room was large and was tastefully decorated in beige and white. All rooms overlook the beach as far as I'm aware - the lower rooms can be noisy but you're in the center of it all in South Beach. The pool area was fantastic and the pool attendant was great.

Staff in general were very friendly and helpful.

i stayed at the Tides June 2005, and am promted to write a review because i have just read the other reviews. i think that these people must have stayed at another Tides. i disagree with those reviews completely. i had a marvellous time, the room was enormous, very clean, bathroom also enormous with lovely products.. couldnt hear any traffic noise from my room. also had great view of the beach.
housekeeping attended every day and fulfilled any request that i left them. the pool is also great, and a lovely attendant, that could not do enoough for you, think she is named pat. free apples, free water, free papers. beach loungers, unberella and towels also provided at no extra cost. i did not have a problem with the staff found them all most helpful. i would highly recommend this hotel. one more thing the beds are divine, so comfy.. all white bedsheets, and chocolates left on the turn down every night..what more could any one ask.

We stayed for four nights in Tides from the 13th May. The hotel rooms are very large and have a good standard of fit out. Do ask for rooms at the upper levels as Ocean Drive, gets very loud at weekends. I asked to be moved as soon as I saw I was been put on the second floor, which the receptionist did , slowly.

My main point is that this hotel is a lovely product but all the staff are moving at about half speed, there is little in the way of a smile and every thing you ask for happens at such a slow pace as to lead to frustrated guests. It's a great pity, but my advice is fire the General Manager as this starts and comes from the top and get some quality and standards in place asap.

I wish I could write a review of this hotel. I am a travel agent but I don't ask for upgrades or discounted rates. I stay at hotels, experience the service and write a review. I don't mind paying top dollar for nice accomodations. I made my reservation for The Tides Hotel last August..... 9 months ago!! My husband and I were to arrive this Friday May 5th but I received a phone call on May 1st saying that the hotel was overbooked and we were being reaccommodated down the street at the "Betsy Rose" hotel. I informed Alan, the man calling, that I was a travel agent and that I couldn't even find a Betsy Rose hotel in my computer and that this was totally unacceptable. I asked if the Betsy Rose was a comparable hotel and he said, "Yes, 4 star". I asked to speak to a manager and a woman named Kris got on the phone. She told me that the hotel was called the Betsy Ross hotel and when I looked it up it was merely a moderate 3 star property. Alan was selling me a bill of goods apparantly! And the rates at the Betsy Ross were about 160.00 per night whereas I had secured a room rate of 380.00 at The Tides. Comparable??
I asked Kris why we were being reaccommodated since we had booked 9 months in advance. She had no answer and basically sat in silence. I told her that this was unacceptable and encouraged her to reconsider. She put me on hold for a long time and then said she would call me back.

Hours later I called the hotel myself and spoke to Mark at the front desk. He was a very polite young man. I asked for the manager Kris. He told me that they had a manager named Bill. ???? When I told him about my phone conversation that morning with Alan and Kris he said, "AHHHH , ok!" So who ARE Alan and Kris?? I explained my situation and he told me that he would have the general manager call me back right away. Several more hours elapsed and I finally called at the end of my day. Mark answered the phone again and put me through to the general manager. His name is Jon (spelling? pronounced Yon). I explained to Jon what was going on and he said, "I'm sure Mark explained to you that we have found ourselves in a situation for this weekend. I'll see what I can do and call you back in the morning with a solution." Does no one there know what the heck is going on?

It is now afternoon in Miami, 3 days before my vacation and I have not heard a word. I canceled my reservation at The Tides through the computer because I was able to miraculously get a room at the Loews Miami Beach.

How does a hotel overbook and then that problem becomes MY problem especially when I booked 9 months in advance? I guess I'm glad it happened to me instead of one of my valued clients. It's quite obvious to me that business at The Tides is so good that they simply couldn't care less about their potential guests. I never even heard the words, "I'm sorry for the inconvenience" Perhaps a complimentary stay for a future date or dinner at their restaurant would have been a gesture of good will. Nothing!!
Truly, the attitude was so dismissive and it's very clear that customer service is their least important priority.

Steer clear of The Tides Hotel!

We stayed at the Tides for two nights in March. Big mistake. This is an overpriced hotel which is living off a reputation it no longer deserves.

We asked for a high room so that we would avoid any road noise. On check in we were told the only room available was on the first floor.

The room was pleasant enough but the attention to detail was poor. Fittings had not been put on straight and the room had paint splashed on light fittings and glass on the door to the loo.

Further disappointment came when on the first night there was no hot water left so I had a luke warm bath - just not good enough.

The room was noisy all night as the street below was full of traffic well into the early hours. If the noise from the cars and people in the street below don't keep you awake all night the art deco plumbing will.

We asked the concierge to book us into two clubs one evening to give us a flavour of Miami. Chris recommended Nikki's Beach and The Bed. We waited for a taxi for over 1 hour outside the hotel and despite 4 attempts from reception to order a taxi, none arrived so, we decided to walk the 25 minutes to the club. When we arrived they did not have us on their guest list and so we payed to get in. We had a drink and left for The Bed - despite the concierge having told us we had a booking - this place was closed for the evening. All this ruined our evening and the overall impression of Miami.

We do not plan to return and could not recommend the hotel to anyone.
