We stayed at the Tides for two nights in March. Big mistake. This is an overpriced hotel which is living off a reputation it no longer deserves.
We asked for a high room so that we would avoid any road noise. On check in we were told the only room available was on the first floor.
The room was pleasant enough but the attention to detail was poor. Fittings had not been put on straight and the room had paint splashed on light fittings and glass on the door to the loo.
Further disappointment came when on the first night there was no hot water left so I had a luke warm bath - just not good enough.
The room was noisy all night as the street below was full of traffic well into the early hours. If the noise from the cars and people in the street below don't keep you awake all night the art deco plumbing will.
We asked the concierge to book us into two clubs one evening to give us a flavour of Miami. Chris recommended Nikki's Beach and The Bed. We waited for a taxi for over 1 hour outside the hotel and despite 4 attempts from reception to order a taxi, none arrived so, we decided to walk the 25 minutes to the club. When we arrived they did not have us on their guest list and so we payed to get in. We had a drink and left for The Bed - despite the concierge having told us we had a booking - this place was closed for the evening. All this ruined our evening and the overall impression of Miami.
We do not plan to return and could not recommend the hotel to anyone.
