I have stayed at the Tides four times over about 10 years, and it is still a terrific hotel. This time, I stayed in Jr. Suite 501 and then 9th floor suite 902. The first was a north corner suite with one very large and bright room. The only shortcoming was a bathtub that had been inadequately cleaned and had a broken drain mechanism -- no bath for me that night! The bathrooms at the Tides are somewhat minimalist, and suffer from fluorescent lighting, but the rooms make up for it.
I moved into a 1BR suite the second night, #902. The bedroom was smaller, but had a 50" plasma TV at the foot. However, the attached bath/sitting room was spectacular, with a large terrace overlooking the beach and city to the east, south and west. This is the sexiest room in South Beach. It has a big soaking tub in the middle of the room, and a lounge at the windows overlooking the ocean. There is a powder room off this room as well. I was onoly sorry my wife was not with me for the trip - she would have loved the room!
The room is expensive, but worth it. Why would you stay anywhere else if you can get this room, which costs no more than a boring suite at the Ritz, Setai or Four Seasons?
