My husband and I stayed at The Kent Hotel for one night post-cruise. We picked it based on location -- it's only one block off Ocean Drive and the beautiful sun and sand of South Beach, and just a few blocks to the Lincoln Rd. pedestrian mall, so there was no need to rent a car.
The room itself left a bit to be desired. It smelled badly of smoke. Though we requested a non-smoking room months in advance, the room wreaked of smoke. I thought we'd get accustomed to the smell, but we just didn't. The cigarette smell in the room was enough to turn us off from staying here again. Also, the mini fridge in the room leaked all over the floor for some bizarre reason, and the shower curtain in the bathroom was not wide enough to cover the distance of the tub. However, there are some good points I want to point out if you can tolerate the smoke:
-Location between 11th and 12th: Like I said, it's in walking distance to everything you need and would want to see in South Beach -- the beach, Versace Mansion, Lincoln Rd., Espanola Way. It's in a safe area; we walked several blocks very late at night and never felt threatened or unsafe in any way.
-The staff were friendly and helpful with the luggage.
-The lobby and the room were dressed in art deco. Yes, the room was lavender, but the silver fixtures looked really good with the color choices.
-Quiet -- Despite the location, we couldn't hear any traffic or noise coming from the street below. We were on the 2nd floor.
In the end though, we would probably not stay at this hotel again unless we heard they got rid of the dreaded smoke smell somehow. However, if you can tolerate the smell, the location and price may just be what you're looking for.
