My husband and I stayed at The Kent Hotel for one night post-cruise. We picked it based on location -- it's only one block off Ocean Drive and the beautiful sun and sand of South Beach, and just a few blocks to the Lincoln Rd. pedestrian mall, so there was no need to rent a car.

The room itself left a bit to be desired. It smelled badly of smoke. Though we requested a non-smoking room months in advance, the room wreaked of smoke. I thought we'd get accustomed to the smell, but we just didn't. The cigarette smell in the room was enough to turn us off from staying here again. Also, the mini fridge in the room leaked all over the floor for some bizarre reason, and the shower curtain in the bathroom was not wide enough to cover the distance of the tub. However, there are some good points I want to point out if you can tolerate the smoke:

-Location between 11th and 12th: Like I said, it's in walking distance to everything you need and would want to see in South Beach -- the beach, Versace Mansion, Lincoln Rd., Espanola Way. It's in a safe area; we walked several blocks very late at night and never felt threatened or unsafe in any way.

-The staff were friendly and helpful with the luggage.

-The lobby and the room were dressed in art deco. Yes, the room was lavender, but the silver fixtures looked really good with the color choices.

-Quiet -- Despite the location, we couldn't hear any traffic or noise coming from the street below. We were on the 2nd floor.

In the end though, we would probably not stay at this hotel again unless we heard they got rid of the dreaded smoke smell somehow. However, if you can tolerate the smell, the location and price may just be what you're looking for.

We stayed here for 1 night prior to a cruise because we wanted to check out SoBe. The room was very purple, as other reviewers said, but that was kind of fun. The room was clean as far as hotels go, and the location was really great. We got a really low rate since it was hurricane season, so that helped. Is it a luxury hotel? No. But the staff that we spoke with was friendly and we could walk to the beach and everywhere in SoBe. I would stay here again for a short time, not sure I could take the purple much longer than that!

Ok just for sleep

The place is OK if you are staying one or 2 nights, if you just need a place to sleep, going on a cruise and need to stay in Miami Beach.

Room's ornaments with the lavanda walls are quiet ok, a little bit different from the classic and boring styles. I stayed on room 311 on the 3rd floor. The 3rd floor is very peaceful, but I'm not a fan of the elevator, is a piece of work, number change up and down, sometimes just don't work, especially if you push more than one button.

The closet and the safe deposit box in the room is a plus, I was moving, carrying some valuables and money, and the safe deposit box in the closet was my salvation. You also have an iron, big desk, nice 30 inches flat tv, phone (but don't expect to make int'l calls, unless you buy a caling card). A fridge, bathroom ammenities, A/C on room controlled by you.

Pros: The location is amazing, right just a block ahead on the beach and just in Collins Av. shopping area. For Gay community, is the best place you have just behind Versace's Mansion, just walk to next corner on the right to 12st and Ocean Dr. You have Gay Bar and just in front the Gay Spot of the Beach (just search for the rainbow flag). Door is card locked. Free Miami Daily newspaper.

Cons: I'm not a fan of the bathroom either, couln't make the shower works. The card key worked only for 1 day, after that I had to go to the front desk to re-activate the card key. The MINI FRIDGE WAS DIRTYYYYYYYY!!!! and with a half empty Pepsi bottle inside. The rest of the room was acceptable clean, although you have some wall paint stains on the bathroom and not to mention the windows blind.

Expect a lot of noise if you stay on the first floor of if you sty on weekdays until November 'cause they are expanding the Hotel, that's causing a lot of construction work but the weekends are very peaceful. Don't expect any Hotel Amenities, The Hibiscus Room is clausured I think 'cause the construction, just a computer with internet on the Lobby, but just in front of the Hotel you have a Cybercafe with a call center.

The personnel in the front desk are nice persons (or maybe it was 'cause I'm latino, all of them are Latino) . But don't expect anything from the maid service, just a bed made and trash can changed at some point of the day.... at some point of the day.

  • Liked — Definitelly Location
  • Disliked — The fridge was dirty and couldn't make the shower work, No Hotel Amenities

I loved this hotel. It was around the corner from Ocean Drive and the beach. The rooms are just the right size. Considering you are not spending much time in them. Beds were very comfortable.Shower, change and sleep. It's perfect. The hotel staff was Excellent. very helpful and went out of the way to help. I would stay at this hotel over and over again.
In fact i will be staying again in August. i cant wait to be in this pleasant hotel again.

This colorful nice hotel is just behind Versace mansion in miami beach. The structure is simple, but clean and accurately furnished. Rooms are painted in pastel colours and include a big screen, fridge and air conditioning. Clean and extremely well located you can get anywhere you want from here. Amenities include towels for the beach, an internet point, a superb lounge and luggage storage.
The greatest place to stay in Miami at an affordable price.
