Overall, the hotel is decent. The rooms are clean and the location is fantastic. Yes, the pool area is under construction and we should have been informed about that prior to booking. But we did still have beach access with complimentary lounge chairs and umbrella. For the first half of our stay we were able to use the pool at the South Seas right next door. The second half we had to go to the sister property, The Dorchester, up the block.
My one major problem with the hotel was the lack of clean linens and toiletries in our room. Every day after housekeeping left they never put new towels on the room or new toiletries. We had to call down every single day to get towels and once never even received the towels we were told by the front desk would be brought up.
The free happy hour is great if you drink vodka or rum, but you are out of luck if don't.
Just a couple notes on other reviews. Most people have been complaining about being charged a resort fee when the pool is under contraction. You still get your towels, 2 lounge chairs, and an umbrella on the beach. Plus they have the pool at the sister hotel. You still get something but just have to walk to further to the pool.
Others have complained about a 3 pm check-in time. This is standard at most hotels in the US. If check-out is at 11, the cleaning folks need to time to clean the room and get it ready for the next guest. Kind of simple really.
