“Great location. Under heavy construction, no pool hidden fees lackluster staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

The only thing to love about this hotel is its location. Its next to some very nice hotels and its within walking distance to many bars restraunts and shopping hot spots. This hotel is undergoing heavy construction and remodleing which was never disclosed to me. They have a pathetic attempt at a bar out front which is not worth mentioning. The bartender was smoking behind the bar and blew smoke in my face like it was no big deal. There is no pool or work out room on site either. They try to send you to the hotel next door but its nothing speacial. The room was alright kind of on the small side. The bathroom was absolutley disgusting. Flies every where. I took pictures and mention this to the desk guy and all he offered to do was give me bug spray gee thanks!. Also if you stay here you better hope it does not rain. Every time it rains the street in front of the hotel and where u park your car floods. I'm talking almost to my knees one day and I'm six feet tall. They will charge you a 15.00 a day plus tax for a hidden resort fee which they do not disclose until you get to the hotel and try to check in. If you try to confront them about this fee they blame the service you used to book in my case hotwire. The fact that they charge you for aminietes that should be included is rediculous. In its current condition this is a 2 star hotel tops. They have a lot of nerve charging an extra fee when they are undergoing a massive remodel and the bars in the hotel suck. Maybe they can take that money and create a cool lounge/ bar concept. Crowd here was an older crowd and a lot of international people. Not really a good hotel for people under 50.

Dear Guest:

Let me first of all apologize for not pleasing you
in regards to your expectations. We are in the business
of pleasing our guest and always willing to go above
and beyond to ensure satisfaction.

We want you to know that we have completed our major
renovations within our lodging facility and maybe that is one
of the reasons you mentioned that your room was alright.
We are in the process of giving our guest one of the
most beautiful pool in South Beach, and in the mean time
have made provisions to meet their pool needs while
staying with us: we instruct all booking agents to disclose
this information to potential guest. Like all hotels in South
Beach, we charge for parking, and our rate is one of the
lowest in the area. As a matter of information, the entire
South Beach is at sea level, and although most of the time,
the City's Water Management Personel does an amazing
job in flood control, there're few time they are overwhelmd thus
resulting in a little flooding which does not last for long.

We do thank you for your feedback and pay close attention to
your concerns and endeavor to make necessary changes
unter our control.

We definitely would like you to stay with us again because
guest like you encourage us to be more excellent: our goal is
to please all guest.

Best wishes to you.

Yours truly,
E. Hewitt

As you can see, this is not a 5 star hotel, but it was updated, clean and comfortable (nice bed, decent sized room, large closet & safe). The location was perfect for us for a few days of fun in South Beach...tons of restaurants/bars close by and a few blocks from Lincoln Rd. Being right on the beach and getting chairs/umbrella is a nice perk (included in your $15/day resort fee). The pool is under renovation until the end of the year, but you can use the pool literally right next door within a few steps. Only drawback is that the rooms are loud...lots of noise from the hallway and music playing outside. If you're looking for an affordable option that has a little bit of everything: good location, beach/pool amenities, affordable price...this is your place! I would stay here again.

This Hotel needs to inform potential guests that they are under construction with major amenities not available, I found out when checking in that here is major construction taking place around the pool area at the back of the hotel so forget about the nice poolside bar etc as its all being renovated and off limits. Currently the hotel is not compensating its guests for the loss of on site amenities, not even waving their tacky $15 facility fees. Every Hotel requires remodeling sooner or later they just need to let people know that is the situation. So for now You are not getting what you think you are paying for at the Marseilles. They do however offer guests access to use the hotel next door's pool, but it is noisy with all the construction going on at the Marseilles on the other side of the wall.
The hotel's staff treated us very well during our stay , the room was very clean, the location is good and once the construction is completed I would return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Choose an Ocean View .

Dear Valued Guest:

Let me thank you for your feedback and for choosing us.
We are very sorry for any inconvenience you might had experience
while staying with us.

Yes we do inform our guest and travel agents about the modernization
of our pool, and as you rightly mentioned, upon check in, we inform all
our guest about our pool and direct them to our alternate pool just a few steps
away. The vast majority of our guest appreciate our efforts in providing them
with an alternate pool that is just as nice as ours, and we even go as
fars as offering all of them discounts on drinks at the pool as well as free
passes for beach chairs and umbrellas along with beach towels. We are
very sorry that information about the pool modernization was not conveyed
to you when you made your reservation and will do even more to make sure
that message reachs all our potential guest.

We also want to thank you for your honesty in commenting about our very
clean rooms, good location, and friendly staff.

Thanks again for making us know that you would return to our property.

Yours,

Stayed there this past weekend (thursday-Monday). Outside of hotel looks old and unkempt compared to neighboring hotels. Room looked like it had been updated but was so hot. We reserved a oceanview room and the window was in a corner on the beach side but could barely see the ocean. Had to ask several times for clean towels. Walls were paper thin, you could hear people in the halls and other rooms constantly. They had a fire alarm testing at like 9:00am on a friday. Alarm went off every few minutes for what it seems like an hour. The worst part was at the end of our stay, they charged me $67 for a "resort" fee!!!! they charged me $15 a day to use the beach and towels. Ummmmm i thought that was supposed to be included in the booking package that i paid for upfront?? They did not tell me this at the beginnng of my stay when we checked in. The nice male manager at the desk tried to call his manager to see if there was anything they could do. The guy on the phone simplay said, it was "mandatory!" some customer service they have there.....Well i would not stay here again thats for sure.

Dear Valued Guest:

Thanks for taking the time to comment on your stay.
Let me apologize to you for any inconvenience you
had while staying with us.

As you rightly mentioned, all our rooms are modernized and
upgraded. Normally, if a guest is not satisfied with the location
of their rooms, depending on the availability, we generally move
them to a room of their preference: we do understand the fact that
different people have different preference in room location. As
mandated by the City's Fire Department, we are required to have an
annual Fire Alarm inspection for the safety and protection of our guest
and their families, and we are very sorry for the brief testing. The $15
resort fees you paid includes free wifi, beach lounge chairs and umbrellas
at the beach ($37 at the beach if you dont have a pass from us), $1
happy hour drinks at the bar, and many more. All our guest get beach
towels for free; we definitely do not charge our guest to use them.

Once again please accept our apology, for not satisfying you the way
we would like to, but we do hope you will give us another chance to show you
why most of our guest are very excited in stayinfg with us. If you decised
to return, please call me so I can do something even better to make up
for your inconvenience. Here at the Marseilles, it's really about you.

Yours,
E. Hewitt

You hear the elevator and people going to and from the room all the night. No window can be open. The cleaning is not so good. The night staff was nice, but not under the day. The poolservice exist not exept free tovels. But it is close to the beach and that is a plus.

The hotel itself is a bit dated, but it is fairly well maintained with a very friendly staff. The ocean front room I stayed in was completely updated with tile floors and new plumbing. What was lacking was a refrigerator / microwave in the room. My only complaint is that the air-conditioner vents are locked in place and mine blew directly on the bed. The location is only 2 short blocks to Lincoln Road and a vast array of restaurants and stores. The pool is quite large and the ocean is at your back door past the secure gate. You can pay more elsewhere, but why, they have everything you possibly need here at a very reasonable price.

Room Tip: Go for the ocean front rooms, they all appear to be updated.
